Himora Clarke “There she goes…” #4

“Everyone be quiet!” She snapped. A cigarette lighter flickering on was the only thing to be heard in response as Bellamy kept his distance in the back with droplets of blood bubbling in the corners of his eyes.

Then it was quiet. A respectful silence fell over the backyard.

Souxie began to mutter a few words while wrapping a string of white and dark brown hair around her fingers, intertwining them both together like a small, twisted braid as she closed her eyes.

Namir stood at the head of the burial while his brother sat by his feet, staring at the body.

Both faces, unreadable. Harvey could be heard stepping back into the house and popping a soda can open before the sliding door slammed shut.

It was subtle but when Souxie’s eyes turned completely black, she looked up at everyone with a sort of childlike smile.

Her dark eyes filled with wonder, curiosity and a silent thank you until her head slowly slumped over, and her arms dropped to her side.

“Does anybody have anything to say about this young woman?” I asked. Namir lowered his head. His tongue stabbed the inside of his cheek as he blinked back his own emotions.

“I uh…My brother is responsible for her death,” he said, voice low as he stared at the body.

Interesting.

“He is not here to speak for himself but on behalf of him…I…”

He paused as Seth looked up at his brother before nodding.

“There is no excuse for what he did to you,” Seth said, taking over as Namir turned and walked off with his hands gripping the top of his head.

“Fuck him and if you see him on the other side, you tell him his big brother Seth is coming for him, even in the afterlife. That is a promise. He will know no rest or peace until I personally get my revenge for what he and our father did to my family. Fuck him,” he spat.

Seth looked around with a sniff and a nonchalant shrug.

“You wanted honesty, there it is. I’m not faking it for nobody. ”

“Hillary…” Isis chimed in. “You are missed every day, and it has not been the same. Everything feels incomplete and broken. I just hope you find peace.”

She nodded before turning around as she cried in her arms. I stepped forward and stared down at the body.

“I don’t know you and you don’t know me.”

Nodding, I stepped back with my hands clasped together in front of me. They all stared at me as Trevor quickly cleared his throat.

“Now that I have a daughter of my own…My biggest fear is something like this happening to her and I’m not able to stop it,” he admitted.

“My partners Ace Martin and Vanessa are the reason you’re a part of this fucked up blood contract, but I gotta say,” he said.

Tone full of charm as he held his hands up.

“You might just be the reason a war breaks out. If I were you, I would set this shit off.”

Souxie’s head suddenly drew back. She let out an eerie cackle as her dark eyes widened.

Her body leaned all the way back before toppling over to the side while the nymph held on to her.

No one said a word at this point. Trevor turned to answer a call from the main office while I reached down to grab the jar.

The oldest wolf went to talk to the youngest one in the corner.

Souxie was officially out cold with tears staining her face.

Harvey walked over to pick her up off the ground and carry her inside as she laid limp in his arms. The nymph followed.

I stared at the body in the ground before kneeling down to pick up the dirt around her.

Rubbing it between my fingers, I reached over to smear the brown stain against the last part of her pale skin that was showing.

“What are you doing?”

I could hear Bellamy’s voice standing over me from behind. An obvious intimidation gesture but I simply adjusted my frames.

“I grew up in the Woodlands and this is how faes send loved ones off. We return them back to earth from which they came,” I said.

Turning to look at him over my shoulder, I continued to explain.

“Earth wanted to see beauty within its creation, so mother nature was created. She in return gave birth to flowers, and with the help of sun and water. Out sprouted beautiful faes that were pulled from the ground. That is why our wings mimic the veins and shape of flower petals.” I turned to look at the young woman.

Without another word, I stood up, slapped my hands together to wipe the dirt away.

“A common nursery tale told to budlings and faelets.”

I stepped around the nephew and with the jar in my hand, walked over to Trevor who immediately took it.

“Yeah, we got it right here,” he said with the phone held out.

“If the body is there before sunrise, it didn’t work and we’re gonna have to try something else,” Vanessa said. “Hopefully none of y'all got ignorant. I told Ace to go since he’s the one that basically assaulted her body.”

“She was deaaad!” He yelled in the background. “At the time, it didn’t matter! I didn’t think it was going to be this big of a deal!”

“Yeah well…now look. The Underground is on the brink of collapse because of one dead girl.”

“Aye?!” Seth called out. “Now what? What happens now?”

“Bury her again,” I declared. “All we can do is wait.”
