Chapter Twenty #3
“Lovely, please shut the fuck up and get on with it,” I muttered through my teeth as I continued to search the crowd.
Lovely let out another erratic laugh before taking off after someone who was running up the steps on her level.
I should have known this would be a feeding ground for her and Carmilla instead of sticking with the plan.
Out of nowhere, the crackling sound and rumbling shake of the stadium went off as roots of trees began to sprout from the ground and water filled in from all sides.
“NEPHEW?!”
I looked up, seeing Trevor Coleman snap the neck of one of the volunteers dressed in black just a level above.
He shoved his body down, dropping him amongst the crowd before pointing up.
That’s where I saw her… Maggie Grey’s body laid limp in midair, high above everything else as trees, and roots continued to sprout from the stadium and water filled each level before spilling over into the next.
I could see people fighting over the smallest bag of black smoke that was most likely smuggled in until they disappeared.
Others began scrambling to the ground trying to scrape whatever was left to use.
I heard the piss poor spell being muttered throughout the speakers as everything became a swirling mass of chaos surrounding my sister.
Gravity began pulling towards her as people began screaming, trying to hang on to one another to keep from being dragged into the spinning air.
“MAGGIE?!” I screamed as I caught Lovely’s body clinging from one tree limb to another with a psychotic laugh. This wasn’t like the church where she wasn’t aware. I know she could hear me and see what she was doing. “MAGGIE?!”
The stadium shook as Trevor called out to me again.
Solomon was trying his hardest to defend and protect as many as he could as this place became a water dome, perfect for the likes of his kind.
The more people panicked; the more others were dragged to the center.
Namir went on a complete fucking rampage in his werewolf form.
Tearing shit up without a thought about Maggie or anyone else for that matter.
Seth and the rest of the pack that came with him, managed to grab Namir before disappearing in thin air.
I saw Carmilla grab Asha, catching her off guard.
The siren immediately swung first, asking questions later while Carmilla attempted to pin her hands back, flashing her fangs only to disappear in the midst of their scrapping.
Draco snatched Ayira’s limp body out of the rising water as they disappeared.
I looked up, keeping my stance planted while everything around me went haywire.
I focused on my sister in the air, cupped my mouth with my hands and screamed out.
“GAIA?!”
Her body arched back with her head thrown back.
White eyes darkening, her hair darkened from white to brown.
Suddenly everything froze for a split second, and you could see the terrified look in her eyes before everything went in reverse from pulling towards her to shooting away from her.
Another loud boom went off. Black smoke slowly rolled in like thick storm clouds as I watched Maggie’s body suddenly fall.
I clapped my hands together, disappearing into thin air before reappearing just in time to catch her body to cradle into mine.
Without hesitation or a second to look around the dark smoke, I took my sister as our bodies warped into the air and disappeared.
A moment later, our bodies fell hard on the brittle grass of Raven Holmes backyard in Mississippi where I called out for help.
Maggie’s body was soaked and heaving aggressively as she panted.
She was full of so much energy and aura.
The grass blades and the trees in the distance all turn in our direction as if they recognized her.
Even the moon in the sky seemed to hover right above us despite it being the evening with the sun setting in the distance.
Every single part of nature was reacting to her presence.
“SOMEBODY?!” I screamed. The back patio door slid open as I looked back down at my sister. My voice cracked, trying to speak when I tightened my grip on her. It was only then did I hear my name being yelled out.
“GET HER OUT OF HERE! BELLAMY?! GET HER SOMEWHERE SAFE! NOW! HE’S TRYING TO GET TO HER!”
I looked up to see something large moving across the backyard, foaming from the mouth with stark white eyes charging directly for us.
“Aye come on boy,” Clarence said, trying to quickly pull my arm up. “They haven’t been able to control him since he got here. Get in the house.”
Seth and four others attempted to pin him down again when I hurried to get my sister in the house, watching the werewolf claw and dig at the ground in an attempt to pull away.
Not even on my worst day would I ever admit Namir struck a hint of fear in me, but for my sister, I was at my most vulnerable.
When I managed to get her into the back room, the door slammed shut behind me just as the screaming and shouting for Namir broke through the walls.
The banging, scratches and growls at the door caused it to shake from the hinges.
I sat with my back against the frame, keeping Maggie close in my arms as he continued to bang and growl for her on the other side.
It didn’t matter though. My body thumped repeatedly at the loose door being attacked as I brought Maggie’s face close to mine to feel her skin.
She was cold. Her body was unnaturally cold like mine.
“No no no no noooo…” I repeated, taking her arm to tap around her wrist with my fingers.
“NAMIR?! I KNOW YOU CAN HEAR ME!” Seth screamed. “I KNOW YOU CAN FUCKING HEAR ME! I’M YOUR brOTHER!”
“Stay as you are Maggie.” I pleaded as the door rocked hard against my back to where you could see the opening on both sides. “I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you in the beginning…please just…stay as you are…”
The banging and thumps against my back shook my body, and I knew Seth had decided to take his brother full on in order to protect the door. I pressed my forehead against my sister’s head and held her even tighter.
“You are all I have left that is still living…please…” I begged, fighting back my own tears. I didn’t want my sister to turn into the very thing I am.
“NAMIR?!” Seth cried, hearing the fear in his voice as the door bolted so hard against my back, I could hear the wood split from each side.
I gripped Maggie’s body tighter in my hold with my fangs already drawn, ready to do whatever it takes to keep her safe.
“NAMIR!?” Seth shrieked again. Namir managed to almost rip it from the hinges when there was a sudden loud BANG!
Something slid slowly down against the broken door with a large thump to the door. Everything suddenly became quiet.
“Tranquilizer gun,” Clarence said. “My wife kept a few of these when she saw wolves tryna hunt in her territory. Get him out of my house. It’s too many damn chirren in here. He needs to cool off before coming back.”
Everything became quiet as I looked at my sister with a cracked smile and blurry bloody gaze.
“Be who you are…not what they want you to be…” I brought her face to mine again. Smelling her breath, my eyes began to swell, and my chest tightened at the realization the moment I recognized the familiar scent. It was too late…
She already had her first taste of blood.
When I tapped the side of her face again, I could see the violent movement of her eyes behind her closed lids until they slowly fluttered open.
They were piercing blood red, every vein streaking against her eyes like lightning strikes.
The disease was making its way through her and settling comfortably in her body when she opened her mouth.
The deep inhale of her breath suddenly caused everything in the room to react.
