Maggie Grey #4
We continued to walk in silence as I looked up at the night sky seeing no sign of the moon.
The dark road was only going to get darker but since Namir didn’t sense anything, I knew I was safe.
It’s strange, the young woman with strange white hair, and the man who turns into a beast walking at night together with no moon in the sky.
I found myself smiling. I didn’t realize I stopped walking until Namir looked back before slowly making his way over towards me.
I slowly looked up the closer he got as he took my hands in his and stared down at me.
“Don’t ever leave without telling me first,” he said, voice barely above a gentle but firm tone. “I…I can’t do that again.”
“Did you…”
“Miss you?” He finished.
“Cry yourself to sleep at night?” I countered. Namir’s grin slowly stretched across his face like he was fighting it but the humor in his eyes reflected back from mine.
“I slept on top of your clothes in the bed,” he said as he stepped even closer to me. “Made a pile right there on the sheets full of your things and slept like a baby every night.”
“D-do you know how insanely crazy that sounds?” I asked, trying not to laugh.
Namir simply exhaled with a nod but never took his eyes off of me.
His smile slowly fizzled out and with a single blink, I could see the moon’s reflection appear like a filter over his eyes.
His breathing was starting to become haggard and labored as wind picked up around us, but I stepped even closer with my hands sliding up to hold his arms, feeling the throbbing pulse of each vein.
“Namir?” I whispered as my hair blew gently to the side.
Loose strands crossed over my face as I tightened my grip on him, seeing his head start to hang low like it was too heavy to hold.
He was slipping in and out of a pre-shift and I knew…
I could feel it in my bones. I could make him shift right here if I wanted to.
That sense of control was spreading throughout my body from the temptation to bring him to his true nature.
Instead, I reached up and gently drew my fingers down his face as he immediately snapped out of his trance.
He stared at me, releasing a quiet and subtle shaky breath before wrapping his arms around my waist to pick me up.
“Namir!?” I shrieked with a laugh. With my arms around his neck, I leaned down and kissed him on the lips.
He held me steady in the air against him as I reached to wipe a bit of drool from his lower lip.
Suddenly, I grinned before looking around at the trees surrounding us. “Can you hear it?” I whispered.
“Hear what?”
“Listen…”
Closing my eyes, I listened to his heart beating, the wind whistling faint words to the trees that responded.
I could hear the pulse of the ground, breathing in and out as I opened my eyes.
Namir was staring at me when he slowly lowered my feet back to the ground.
It wasn’t anything like words or full on sentences the way nature connected and communicated.
No, this just felt like the chatter and noise was responding to him, and I.
“Everything is so different now,” I said in awe as I looked down at myself.
When I looked up, Namir was staring at me with that hunger and desire in his eyes as a peek of the moon filtered in front of his gaze once more.
There was so much tension building up between us that I took a deep swallow and began walking again, going further into the night like it belonged to me now.
Namir took his time but eventually caught up as we quietly walked together.
“You wanna stay here with your family tonight?” Namir suddenly asked. I pouted my lips in thought.
“Actually? I want to go home. I want to eat, shower, sleep…I know you really haven’t slept well without me. Even with my clothes for a pallet on your bed…”
“No I haven’t,” he stated. “I thought I was losing my mind with you gone but I knew…you weren’t in any danger, but it was better than being here.”
“That’s also what they told me…”
“We can go home after this walk and pack some bags.”
“We can get some fooooood…” I crooned. “Watch a movie or fall asleep to it. We can catch up on our shows–––”
“I’m not trying to come up for air for a few days, Maggie Grey,” he stated. Making it clear what he planned on doing. My heart dropped as I ignored the fluttering feeling in the pit of my stomach which…if I’m being honest, my uterus. It was my uterus responding to him.
“Are you gonna tell me where you were this whole time?”
The brief thought of Gaia revealing to me that Namir is the moon crossed my mind before deciding, I wasn’t going to say anything about it. Not right now anyway. There was still so much more to learn and to figure out within myself.
“You wouldn’t believe me if I told you.” Namir cut a side glance at me before shooting an airball into the imaginary hoop.
“Try me. I overheard Bellamy say you fed for the first time.”
“Damn it, Bellamy,” I muttered. “It’s not like that and…wait,” looking at him, “why are you so calm about it?”
“I thought about it…I’ve always thought it would be a possibility and I’ve seen your fangs out for me before, even during sex, you get this hungry look in your eyes like you want my blood.
If you ever get…hungry…I thought about maybe you only using me so you wouldn’t feel the need to hurt or attack anyone. ”
I did a spit take into my laughter as I leaned over with a grip of my stomach.
“WHAT?!” I cackled.
“What’s funny? I’m being serious!”
“I know!” I laughed. “That’s what makes it worse!
First of all… I don’t get hungry when I have sex with you.
I’m just…in the mood, I guess. I don’t know, the stupid fangs just come out on their own.
Secondly, I didn’t feed on anyone. I…I met Gaia, and she made me feed on her which turned out to be myself. ”
Namir was in the middle of shooting another airball when he turned to look at me with his mouth dropped. I hadn’t even told the girls yet because I was waiting to tell him first since this was technically our story.
“Like you said,” I told him as I started to walk, leaving him standing in place. “A lot has happened while I’ve been gone.”
His phone suddenly went off in his pocket as he reached to grab the screen and swipe to answer on speaker.
“We’re good bro,” Namir told Seth. “Everything is fine. We’re about to leave in a few–––”
“I’m not calling about y'all,” Seth whispered in a hushed tone. “I’m calling about ol girl…This dragon girl. You got me on speaker?”
I shook my head as Namir rolled his eyes.
“Say it. You’re good, and why are you whispering? Where are you?”
“In the bathroom, look… I’m minding my own business, drinking my beer and finishing off a plate. Everybody is cool and chill. Maggie’s friends are on one side talking amongst themselves and out of nowhere…the dragon princess comes walking over to me. She said, what are you?”
I almost cracked at the sound of him imitating her accent that I had to turn my head.
“I said, funny enough? I was about to ask you the same thing because I’ve never heard of dragons being real.
Game of Thrones is as far as it gets with me and that’s white people shit.
She said her people had em long before any white people.
I said oh aight. I’m just staring at her because I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone as beautiful as her.
I mean she got the type of face you gotta turn away because you start feeling ugly, you feel me? ”
“Uh huh,” Namir said as mindlessly listened while shooting another airball.
“She said she is a princess that is going home to confront her mother and save her sister. I said oh okay, that’s what’s up. Bruh… On everything I love, on my future kids, why did she lean in and whisper, she wants me to break her body in half–––”
“OHH!” I gasped before gagging with laughter.
“She what?!” Namir let out.
“I swear to God! She said, I want you to break my body in half and put it back together again. She said, "I want my body to experience the highs and lows of sex so when I go home, I return as a true woman.”
Namir looked at me. I pulled the shirt up to cover my mouth and nose to catch my silent tears of laughter.
“What did you tell this girl, Maggie?”
“I didn’t say anything!” I laughed, ignoring the replay of our conversation when we were stuck in the sand dunes.
“Aye, thank you baby sis,” Seth said with a laugh. “Thaaaank youuuu. I’m getting the car ready now so we can leave.”
“Don’t do it, Seth. You already got enough going on,” Namir let out with an incredulous tone. “Leave her be. You got three other women from the pack fighting over you already–––”
“Mannnnnnnnn, I’m about to Reese’s Pieces this bitch–––”
Namir hung up as I fell over in laughter.
“You know he’s serious,” Namir said, clearly not amused which made it even funnier. “He’s going to do it. He might actually hurt her because Seth will never be serious with anyone, and you know he can be too violent.”
“I have no doubt,” I coughed, trying to get myself together. “I have no doubt in my mind that she can handle herself. Trust me. Ayira is that girl.”
