Not Mates #6
I breathed a sigh of relief, “You look good. You’re ok?
” Emma nodded, “Yup. Nothing a MelAshley serum and a little Haley healing couldn’t fix.
” I asked, “You call Melanie Conners MelAshley?” Emma nodded to Finn saying, “I hear it all day every day. It’s second nature to me now.
” Finn smiled at her but I could see the worry in his eyes though.
I asked, “What happened?” Emmett answered, “She was poisoned.” I growled, “With what?” Emma sighed, “Mintor and Silver poisoning.” My eyes widened in horror. Keith asked, “How? They were tigers.” Emma shrugged, “Their claws were dipped in it.”
Finn chimed in, “It was very dramatic. No one could get to Emma because she was in that blasted dome. I’m going to need MelAshley to dedicate all her time, when she’s not having sex, to getting the rest of us inside that darn thing.”
Finn shrugged, “Honestly, I’d say all her time, but who wants Alexander to return to his moody state?
Not me. Jay Jay surrounded me in water that I tried to swim through, but alas my doggy paddle could not get me out.
I’ve re-entered myself into swim lessons.
I SHALL GET THROUGH THE WATER NEXT TIME TO REACH EMMA! ”
I asked, “How would the Werewolf serum help you with Mintor poisoning, Emma?” Emmett explained, “Our sister didn’t get the Werewolf serum.” My Uncle Heath and Aunt Allie flashed into the house. I asked, “Then what serum is it?”
Emmett admitted, “Apparently it doesn’t have a name yet, but it’s to combat Mintor poisoning.” I asked, “How smart is this woman?” Also, why was the idea that Melanie was the one behind the Resistance firming up in my mind?
Channing said, “Because she, of all people, would not have cared you were killing people. Melanie is the one who would simply cover you and allow you to be in the group without being in it. You were the piece of home Oden’s mate wanted.
Melanie clearly wanted the allies to work with her but didn’t think they would understand. We were different.” That’s true.
Keith linked, “Why are you making your I figured it all out face?” I admitted, “I might have, but no one would believe me.” Keith snorted, “I will.” I wasn’t so sure about that considering it was a crazy thought, but I had more information about the situation than they did.
That note I got rambled just like Melanie did.
Holy shit, it was her. Channing snorted, “We can’t out her without outing ourselves.
” I replied, “Yes, but Melanie will tell everyone in time she runs the Resistance. Alexander’s mate wanted the allies to know the whole time it was her.
Hell, she was begging Red Run to figure it out.
” That made me want to flinch, knowing how much that had to hurt Melanie.
I focused on my family. Emmett said, “Melanie Conners is an actual genius. I thought the McAlister’s saying so was just them bragging, but it’s actually a fact.” I studied Emmett and realized my unflappable big brother was shaken while Mom was holding Emma’s hand.
Finn declared, “We need some life in this party. To the bar! Let’s go people. Emma is alive and she has been thoroughly chastised with some pizazz about how she’s not allowed to leave me. We are celebrating life!” He ran off to get drinks.
Emma told us, “He just needs something to do, but I also know what you all need. So, Finn and I are staying here tonight.” I quickly said, “Then Keith and I will stay too.” We needed to be together as a family tonight. Everyone glanced sharply at me, like they were surprised I suggested it.
Channing reasoned, “We have backed out of a lot of family time.” Yes well no one nearly died before which made this was different. Emmett nodded saying, “I’ll call Gray Stone and let them know you two will return tomorrow. They will understand.”
My big brother walked away to make his calls, but I caught the slight shaking of his left hand. I linked my older sister, “He needs you, Emma.” She nodded and took off after Emmett. I asked, “How bad was it?” I knew it would be bad to ruffle Emmett so badly.
Channing replied, “You know that Mintor poisoning means death.” Yes, but Haley could’ve healed it and my mind literally faltered over the thought of Emma being gone. Dad answered, “Bad. Haley couldn’t get to Emma. If Dylan Frost didn’t dive in front of her, they would’ve ripped her throat out.”
Uncle Heath punched a wall. Mom said, “Don’t do that. Don’t believe our daughter didn’t have something up her sleeve. No Weretiger would’ve killed Emma. The poisoning would’ve been a problem since we couldn’t get to her, but our daughter can handle a freaking tiger, Chase Daniels.”
Aunt Regan cheered, “Heck yes she can.” Uncle Cameron squeezed her waist. Finn came back into the room carrying drinks. Finn said, “Now it’s party. Celebrate life with me.” I took the drink from him because lord knows I needed it.
My brother in law pointed at us saying, “What we need is Resistance members mated to our pack members. Black Mountain and Red Run are having all the fun with that. It’s not fair.
” I pointed out, “We have someone mated to a Resistance member, they just moved to Black Path.” Everyone shot me smirks. What? We did.
Keith said, “I’m pretty sure the Hackura got in on that fun too.
” We all turned to him. My twin asked, “What? I saw Melanie talking to Crown Prince Hastein then he portaled away from her. Then the Hackura were practically throwing a celebratory party in addition to the party that was already happening.”
I surmised, “You think their future Queen was found.” Keith nodded, “Yeah, and it just happened to be after I saw Melanie and Crown Prince Hastein talking. It’s obvious to me one of her friends in the Resistance is his mate. Melanie had to have told him where to find her.”
Finn clapped excitedly saying, “That’s my influence, people. I’ve been around young Keith so much a little bit of Beta logic flowed into him. You’re welcome. I know it flowed into you too, Keaton. All your assessments are CHALK full of Beta observations.” Hood observations but ok.
I asked, “Where’s Alexandria?” Mom answered, “She will be back any minute.” I teased, “That didn’t answer where she was.” Again, everyone faltered. Keith chuckled, “I’ve been hearing a lot of quips, guys.” Huh?
Mom quickly said, “Alexandria was at a charity event.” I nodded.
Finn sighed, “Back to the important topic at hand, don’t worry everyone.
I will stalk MelAshley until I have found Resistance members for our packs that live here and in Blue Moon.
That way we can be in the know. Their watches have codes.
” Of course they did. Channing snorted, “We definitely have one.” Yeah, we for sure did.
Finn continued, “I SHALL discover what they are and the meaning behind them. I just need someone to study in my own pack. I’ll make it happen.” I didn’t doubt that he would. Channing offered, “I bet if we asked for the codes, we’d get them before everyone else.”
That felt a lot like coming out of the shadows and working directly with Melanie. Channing teased, “So you’re admitting that you figured out is behind the Resistance.” Maybe. I was merely saying it made sense. Channing added, “Also, Melanie is still in the shadows with the Resistance.”
We talked a little longer as a family. My grandparents came and joined us.
I asked, “Where is Uncle Ollie?” My dad’s youngest brother was the Male Lead Warrior for my Uncle Cameron’s pack.
Uncle Ollie didn’t like all the paperwork that came with being an Alpha, so he decided to take a different role.
Grandpa Frank answered, “He went with Alexandria as a guard because your older brother has no chill about your sister in law being outside of our borders.” Dad snorted, “As if you have the smallest amount of room to talk. You didn’t let Susie leave the house, for FIVE years.”
Grandpa Frank muttered, “She left the house. Heavily guarded, but she left.” We talked for a little bit longer. Emma and Emmett came back out. Finn instantly had my sister in his arms. Alexandria burst through the front door with Uncle Ollie and ran to Emmett.
I watched the bond they shared and the way they knew each other. Alexandria didn’t say anything just held onto my brother tightly. I watched my mated siblings, then looked away. I wanted that too. Keith linked, “We will find out mates when the time is right.”
I smiled at him because I was pretty sure he wanted his to be May.
The rest of us knew it was her, but he was being stubborn about it.
For reasons that did not make sense to me.
I didn’t exactly have a leg to stand on so I couldn’t push.
Channing reasoned, “We did ask Emmaline at the wedding.” True. Keith could just ask her.
I went upstairs to my room and could admit it felt nice being home. I laid down on my pillow and let my eyes close. Thirty seconds later rocks were hitting my window. I went over and saw Lisa standing below. I opened my window and jumped out.
I asked, “What?” Lisa frowned, “I haven’t seen you in weeks and that’s how you greet me? Are you crazy jumping out the window like that? You know you could get hurt.” I didn’t get hurt so I shrugged. Lisa stared at me like I was crazy.
We stood in silence until she announced, “There’s a dance coming up at school. I’m wearing a green dress.” I blinked, “Ok. And?” Channing offered, “I am also confused.” Good. Lisa declared, “You’re taking me.”
I disagreed, “I’m not.” Lisa looked shocked then said, “Of course you are.” I told her, “I’m done with school stuff for the year. The school thinks I’m out of town so I can’t go to a dance. That’s pretty basic logic.” Lisa crossed her arms and tears filled her eyes.
My ex asked, “So I just don’t get to go?” I told her, “I’m sure Justin will take you.” Lisa cried, “I want to go with you, you’re the one I love.” I asked, “Do you? Because I don’t think we fit together, Lisa. Clearly the Moon Goddess doesn’t either.”
