Lonely Life #11

Immy laughed so hard I couldn’t help but join her. Eventually she said, “You have no idea how funny that is. You’ll understand when you meet him though.” Ok? Immy declared, “Well, you’re hired.” I gaped at her before asking, “You can hire people?”

Immy answered “Yes, I can. My dad owns the place, and I won’t deny that both my dads are wrapped around my finger.

My brother Tony Jr. says…” Immy trailed off.

Then she amended, “Actually, all of my siblings say I’m the favorite.

I’m the baby of the family. So far anyway.

One never knows what the future holds. Well, Angela does.

” Who was Angela? Maybe she believed in tarot cards or something.

I questioned, “What’s your dads name?” Immy answered, “Matt and Ted Miller.” Miller again.

They really did own the whole town. Immy continued, “Daddy Matt owns this store, but my grandma Isabella manages it. We share a love of books and baking cakes. We even sell slices here sometimes. Do you like cake?”

I shrugged, “I’ve never had cake. My mom says it’s too fattening.” Immy gasped, looking utterly scandalized, before announcing, “Ok, we are fixing that immediately.” My new friend ushered me out of the store, placing a ‘closed’ sign in the window.

She then proceeded to drag me into a bakery. Immy told me, “Keaton’s sister in law, Alexandria, owns this place.” Jesus Christ, who were these people? Did they own the WHOLE town? Immy waved at someone and held up two fingers then ushered me to a seat.

Moments later slices of cake were brought out to us.

I looked at the options in front of us then asked, “We aren’t starting with vanilla or chocolate cake?

” Immy snorted, “No, that would be boring. This is a Funfetti cake. You can try vanilla or chocolate cake with Keaton since I’m not boring. Ergo, we are having fun cake.”

I laughed and decided I really liked Immy.

I moaned when I tried my first bite. It was delicious.

We ended up getting dinner too. After we left, I realized, “Hey, we didn’t pay for the cake or dinner.

” Immy snorted, “They are owned by people I know. My big brother, Malachi, would make them run so many laps if they gave me a bill. We have an account and yours was charged with mine.”

Rich people lived such different lives. Not paying was called dining and dashing in my pay grade. Immy was so fun and down to earth, while at the same time somehow not being down to earth at all. I asked, “Do you know how to drive?”

Immy snorted, “Oh no. Daddy Ted keeps trying to teach me, but Daddy Matt is really overprotective. Grandpa Tony says he’ll teach me one day.” I sighed, “Oh. I was hoping you could teach me. My mom’s boyfriend bought me a car, but I don’t know how to drive.”

Immy squealed, “Keaton can drive! I bet he will teach you. That’s a perfect meet cute! That’s so happening.” I laughed, “Won’t I meet him at school?” Immy waved her hands saying, “That’s a boring way to meet. My way more fun. I’ll get Clara to tell me the exact date he’s coming home.”

I asked, “How many siblings do you have?” Hopefully she couldn’t tell how jealous I was.

Immy answered while looking at her phone, “Six. I was the unplanned, impromptu seventh. They are all so lucky my dads and mom decided to have me. I’m the most fun and bring such color to their lives.

” It made me miss Lux more. I told her, “I actually agree, you are quite fun.”

A shrill voice shrieked, “Immy!” A hiss sounded in my head. Not now. Immy groaned, “Ugh, great. Her.” At least Immy didn’t like this girl either since my hissing head didn’t either. I turned to see a beautiful blonde coming towards us. Her eyes were fully crazy though. The hissing got louder.

I shook myself because I was having mean thoughts about crazy eyes and hissing. The girl sneered at me, “Who is she, Immy?” Ok, I take it back this chick seemed mean. Immy answered, “This is my new friend. What do you want, Lisa?”

A boy came running over and put his arm around Lisa. He smiled at me introducing himself, “Hi, I’m Justin.” I answered, “Katie.” Immy hummed like she knew it wasn’t true somehow. Lisa asked, “I just wanted to ask about Keaton. When is coming home for good?”

Wait. That’s why Immy wanted his exact return date? Because he wasn’t here? Why did that make me sad? Immy replied, “Yes, well I just want you to be hit by an anvil but we don’t all get what we want. Watch out though, my wish could come true.”

My jaw dropped. An anvil? Was this Wylie Coyote? Immy grabbed me and walked away as Lisa shrieked insults at her. I stopped when Lisa called Immy a flighty bitch with no mom. The hiss and I were in sync this time and my fist clenched ready to fly directly at Lisa’s face.

Immy snorted, “I’m blessed with two dads and a mom.” Lisa sneered, “Your biological mom doesn’t want you.” I saw red over her comments which made the hissing seem smug now. The facts were that Immy was a beautiful girl with a blended family.

I turned around ready to tear Lisa a new one. Immy asked, “Uhhh what just happened? That felt like an aura shift.” I didn’t know what that meant. I hissed, “Shut up, Lisa, or I will shut you up. Thanks for the heads up on who the queen mean girl in town is before school starts for me.”

I looked her up and down saying, “I don’t understand girls like you. How miserable is your life that you feel the need to put others down? Immy told me she has a mom and that’s what matters. Trust me, blood doesn’t mean anything to some people.”

“You want ammo on me? I’ll give it to you for free.

My mom doesn’t like me and is rarely around.

Do you want to say something to my face about it?

Or would you prefer to wait until I walk away?

You’re the type to be brave until someone’s in your face.

You’re not special, honey. I’ve seen a million of you across the country. ”

Lisa stared at me in shock. I snorted, “That’s what I thought. You’re the type that’s all tough when people have their back turned. Not when you have to say it to their face. You’re pathetic and basic. Hell, you’re practically a dime a dozen.”

I turned and walked back to Immy who was beaming. When we walked away, she said, “That. Was. AWESOME! No one dares talk to Lisa like that.” I asked, “Why? Bullies often back down when confronted.”

Immy sighed, “It’s complicated. That’s Keaton’s ex.

” I snorted, “Well, at least she’s pretty.

” I guess the man was superficial. That thought hurt my heart.

Immy said, “Lisa’s ugly on the inside though.

Keaton saved her when they were kids. He’s seen it as his role to protect her ever since.

She had him convinced until recently she was a pearly white angel and everyone else was mean to her. ”

I snorted, but I was relieved that this man wasn’t superficial. Keaton was manipulated into being her champion. I felt bad for him now because I’d seen that happen a lot. My mom did it to men more often than she didn’t. Lisa and my mom would probably get along swell.
