Cinnamon Rolls
Keaton looked around the living room, enjoying being home. I went into the kitchen surprised when mom flashed in and crossed her arms. I held up my hands, “Whoa. I didn’t do whatever you’re mad about. I swear.” Mom asked me, “You didn’t invite Lisa her?” I snorted, “No.”
Mom gritted her teeth, “The only reason I didn’t kick her out is she said you invited her and I want you kids to make your own decisions in life.” I told her, “Mom, from here on out, if Lisa ever says I invited her somewhere, she’s lying. I’m done.”
Mom gently said, “You’ve said that before.” I winced, “Yes, I know but I mean it this time. Lisa’s with Justin and it’s all over the pack. She’s not my mate so it’s over.” Mom tried not to show her relief. I snorted, “You can say what you want to. I can tell something is on your mind.”
Mom admitted, “Lisa was never my choice for you. I know you, which means I know there are things you kept to yourself about her. I don’t like how that girl made you feel. You shrunk and hunched your shoulders when she was around.”
Mom put her hand on my shoulder, “You are my sensitive child, but you are fierce. Lisa is the type of girl who makes a man afraid to cast a shadow. No one needs that in their life.” I hugged her saying, “Thanks, mom.”
Mom confided, “I just want what’s best for all my kids.” I smiled, “I have hope I’ll find my mate one day.” She studied me then nodded. We walked back out where everyone was still recovering from all the Turkey Sally made for Thanksgiving.
May flashed over to me and I smiled at her. May was one of Sally and Derrick’s pups. She was seventeen and had a serious crush on my twin that Keith was oblivious too. Which was hilarious since he’d been in love with May all our lives. Keith just tried not to show it.
I greeted, “Hi, May.” She grinned at me and gave me a hug saying, “We’ve missed you around here, Keaton.” I laughed, “I’m sure you missed someone else more.” May blushed bright red muttering, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
I whispered, “He missed you too.” My twin had mentioned it once or twice. If those two didn’t end up being mates, I’d be stunned. May asked, “Really? He did? I mean….” She trailed off as Keith walked in the door.
I saw my mom nudge Sally as Keith grinned and walked over to May. My twin picked her up and twirled her around greeting, “Hey May, how’s school been going?” May blushed, “It’s been going good!” Aunt Susie said, “I hear several boys are interested in you miss May.”
Keith tensed as several heads whipped into Aunt Susie’s direction in surprise. Channing snorted, “Shera always likes to stir up the men in the family.” Shera was Aunt Susie’s wolf and they both enjoyed goading the men into action.
May shrugged, “Oh well that….” Aunt Susie laughed interrupting, “You’re lucky. I heard the boy that took you to the school dance didn’t face the firing squad like Sebastian did with my brothers. They even knew we were mates.”
May quickly said, “We’re just friends.” Keith muttered, “Excuse me.” then stormed outside.
Aunt Susie smirked, asking, “Was it something I said?” Dad groaned, “Susie.” Aunt Susie winked at me then sweetly asked, “May, would you go give Keith his pie? He loves your mother’s pie, and he walked out without a slice. ”
Mom was trying not to laugh. May grabbed the plate and quickly sped outside to Keith. Channing snorted, “Stone is in a state.” I said, “May will help.” Dad muttered, “My sister and her operations. You’d think they’d end, but somehow they just keep on going.” I laughed.
Ever since we were little Aunt Susie had ‘operations’ that she would run. My favorite was when she would run her operation called ‘get a clue’. I’m sure that’s what she was pulling on Keith right now. Uncle Sebastian swopped in and kissed her.
Uncle Cameron, Uncle Ollie, and dad groaned.
Uncle Sebastian pulled back and teased them, “You really have to get over this whole I’m mated to your little sister and we kiss thing, guys.
” Aunt Susie giggled. Channing warned, “That’s probably not going to happen even though all their wolves adore our uncle. ”
I asked, “How’s Melanie doing?” Heads whipped towards me. I asked, “What? Aunt Susie has been missing her forever. I was just wondering…” Then I trailed off realizing, “Neither of you have talked to her. Have you?” Channing said, “Their wolves say no.”
Uncle Sebastian winced, “We know Melanie got letters from both of us because Addison told us. We think Peter talking to her and getting Ladybug to warm up is better than all of us.” I asked, “Would you like me tell you why that’s the worst plan ever? Or would you like me to get a Beta to do it?”
Aunt Susie whispered, “Ladybug just doesn’t…
” I cut my aunt off, “Melanie didn’t address anything to any of the Alpha’s except Peter when she saved him.
She wanted him to know who she was. By extension you would, but Melanie was the angriest with Peter not you guys.
Any of you would find a warmer reception than he will get with her. ”
Aunt Susie said, “Except none of the things Ladybug believed were true.” I shrugged, “That will be the hardest for Melanie to reconcile. Because there’s understanding Peter was compelled and there’s knowing your Lead Alpha should’ve come for you.”
Uncle Sebastian argued, “We all should’ve.
” I answered, “Yes, but my point remains the same.” Dad said, “They were compelled. Hell, we all were.” I sighed, “Again, that’s not the point.
Peter will find his way back in, but it’s not happening overnight.
You guys should talk to Melanie.” They weren’t going to, but I’d said my piece.
Channing huffed, “We are right.” Emmett linked me, “For the record, I love that you’re saying all these words. Also, you’re right.” I replied, “I know I’m right. I’ve studied Melanie and her need for a connection with our group, particularly her home pack, has been all but shouted.”
I was also coming from the standpoint of the fact that I was positive Melanie herself reached out to me. Which circles back to her being the Resistance Leader. While it sounded crazy it also made so much sense.
Because of course Melanie was excited I kind of joined her cause. She looped me in when I dumped the body, but from her standpoint an ally had used her groups symbol. No one except Alexander’s wife would be happy about that.
Channing snorted, “Yeah, but we aren’t sharing that.” I replied, “No, are not. They’d be pissed.” Channing linked, “Bolt said Melanie is a terrible liar. So, it might come up.” I snorted, “Well, we won’t say anything until she does.” Channing confirmed, “Agreed.”
I didn’t see Keith for several hours, but that didn’t surprise me. I did see my twin try to sneak up the back stairs. I waited a few minutes then went after Keith and found him lying on his bed in his room. I asked, “What’s wrong?” Keith shrugged noncommittally.
I teased him, “I don’t need twin intuition to know that something is wrong.
” Keith sighed, “I like her.” I didn’t need to ask who the ‘her’ he was referring to was, it was May.
I smiled at him, “Welcome to what everyone has known since we were little; you and May like each other. It’s seriously about time you both caught on. ”
Keith shot up and grabbed me by the collar. I asked, “Uhh hey grabby hands, what gives?” Keith asked, “May likes me?” I gaped at him before answering, “Keith, you’ve got to be kidding. May has been in love with you since she could crawl. She’s one of the few people who never gets us mixed up.”
“She literally used to crawl around after you. Then it was walking. May blushes whenever anyone says your name. Literally everyone under the sun is aware she likes you. May might be the only person who doesn’t know you like her too.”
Keith let me go muttering, “I didn’t say I liked her.” I snorted, “You never talk about the girls you are with around her.” Keith defended himself, “Hey, I don’t date anyone so there’s nothing to discuss.” I rolled my eyes, “Yes, I’m aware. You could date the girl you actually like, though.”
Keith admitted, “It’s already borderline if I’ll beat this shit out of her mate. If I were dating May, I might tear him apart and then she’d hate me.” I asked, “And if you are her fated mate?” Keith smiled softly saying, “Well, then I don’t have to beat anyone up.”
Keith paused then added, “Come on, May is too good for me. She does all this volunteer work and is a straight A student. She’s the sweetest soul I’ve ever met.” I interrupted, “You are a straight A student too but continue.”
Keith glared at me before finally saying, “May is perfect. She’s never known a stranger.
She’s nice to everyone, and everyone loves her.
So of course the second I’m not in school, the guys pounce.
” I offered, “To be fair, several guys almost approached her while we were there but you’re whole I’ll kill you if you breathe in her direction vibe put them off. ”
Keith sighed admitting, “I know May dates. That one guy was alright.” That one guy being a visiting Alpha’s son who was our friend.
I snorted, “You like Future Alpha Jack Finnigan.” His father was Alpha Clyde, and his pups were also Wolf / Fairy mixes.
We saw them often enough because they went to Black Mountain for Fairy training lessons.
Keith shrugged, “Like I said he was fine, but a lot of those guys don’t deserve someone like May. She’s special and she’d be an amazing Luna.” I tilted my head, “Not to state the obvious, but you’re going to be an Alpha. So, if she was yours May would in fact be a Luna.”
Keith ran a hand through his hair, “I know that.” I asked, “Why are you so worked up about this tonight?” Keith groaned and threw himself backwards onto his bed. Finally, my twin said, “I kissed her.” I laughed, “Finally!” Keith threw his pillow at me, but I dodged it.
