We All Have Our Secrets #9

I linked Emmett, “We have a serious problem at school.” Emmett replied, “I’m on the way.

” I declared out loud, “Katie needs to be checked by paramedics.” Lisa cried, “What about me?” Odette yelled, “SHUT UP! Literally nothing happened to you! You just ran away! You’re lucky I figured out how to get out of that stupid supply closet you locked me in.

Otherwise Justin and Isla would’ve been hurt worse than they were. ”

The officer surmised, “You’d be Miss Karlton then. The students who called reported you hit the wolves with a….” The officer trailed off. Odette huffed, “It was a lacrosse stick. It was in the supply closet that SHE LOCKED ME IN!” I growled while Lisa clung to me.

My ex insisted, “I didn’t touch her, Keaton. You have to believe me.” Odette snorted. The officer put out his hand, “If you’d come down and make a statement Ms. Karlton. We’d appreciate it.” I argued, “Not before she’s checked out.”

Odette retorted, “Don’t pretend to care now, Keaton.” Pain laced my heart because she called me by my name instead of Key. Channing whined in my head. My mate continued, “Take care of Lisa. She said you would if it came down to the two of us, looks like she’s right.”

May jumped in, “Wait, let’s just take a beat here guys. Tensions are high and things have happened we were not aware of. I’ll go with Katie and get her checked out. Let’s not continue to say things we do not mean.”

Channing snarled, “I want to go with mate!” I offered, “I’ll go with Katie.” Odette declined, “Don’t bother. I see where I rank with you.” My mate walked out, and I ran after her. I pleaded, “Please just….” My mate turned with tears in her eyes. It would’ve hurt worse if she slapped me.

Odette tearfully said, “You didn’t even care that I wasn’t waiting here. You were just worried about Lisa. You had your arms wrapped around her and…” A sob came out of her chest. I didn’t know how to explain Lisa was a pack member, and I’m an Alpha. That’s all it was.

I told her, “I did care. I asked May where you were, I swear. I don’t want Lisa, I only want you.

” Odette shook her head, “This is all going so fast, this isn’t normal.

” I growled, “Yes, it is.” My mate snorted, “Even your ex-girlfriend said it was too fast and that I’m just the rebound.

She’s right. I’ve seen this a thousand times all over the country. ”

Channing growled, “I will kill people, Keaton.” I was growing desperate. I insisted, “My song, you haven’t seen this. I promise you. You’re not a rebound, you’re everything.” Odette shook her head, “No, I can’t be everything. We just met. You’re so confusing! This is…” Someone cleared their throat.

I turned ready to let Channing out to rip them apart. A paramedic was standing there but he was human. I was still close to shifting and ripping his head off. Kieth linked, “DO NOT SHIFT RIGHT NOW!” I growled back at him.

Dad linked, “Keaton, I don’t know what’s going on but Keith thinks you’re going to shift and possibly kill a human paramedic.

Do not do that.” I retorted, “Aunt Haley could erase the memories of all but the dead throat clearing paramedic!” Dad said, “Wow. Ok, I need to get caught up. Keith said Katie is there and I know you don’t want to scare her.

” That had me and Channing calming down.

The paramedic announced, “The officers want me to treat Ms. Karlton, then they want a statement.” I told my mate, “I’ll come by later and see you. Ok?” Odette whispered, “Let’s just take some space.” Fear and panic gripped me.

I said, “You don’t mean that.” Odette cried, “I’ll see you Monday.

” Channing warned, “I WILL RIP PEOPLE TO PIECES! THOSE ROGUES ARE TOAST!” My mate walked off with the paramedic.

May touched my shoulder, “I’ll go with her and make sure she’s ok.

Katie’s just traumatized. You know she didn’t mean that.

She’s got her own backstory and she’s just pushing you away, trying to protect herself from getting hurt. ”

I whispered, “Katie needed me and I wasn’t there.” May reiterated, “Like I said, we know that Katie has abandonment issues. You couldn’t have known she needed you, and Lisa didn’t explain what happened. You did ask where Katie was.”

I nodded numbly as the feeling of failure lit through me.

I was a bad mate who failed at everything I did.

Always. I was a terrible Alpha, Lisa was right.

Keith linked me, “Stop it. Katie just doesn't understand. That was more about her than you. Something happened between her and Lisa we didn’t hear about. You are an Alpha and a pack member needed something.”

I whispered, “My Luna needed me.” Keith said, “Which you were trying to get answers on. You had no reason to think Katie was with a rogue.” Channing was whining in my head. Meanwhile, I felt like there was no breath in my body.

Emmett ran into the school growling, “Keaton!” I couldn’t answer him. Lisa cried, “Keaton!” Something in me wanted to go to her, but the bigger part wanted to run out the doors after Odette.
