Headaches #6

I closed out the cash register, locked up, then went to the bank quickly. I bumped into someone on my way out. Sassy hissed in my head. I began to run without even looking up or saying sorry. I heard someone following me and ran into the woods where I normally saw my rabies wolf.

Jag hung out here sometimes too. Maybe one of them was around to help. The further away I got I could tell no one was following me. I turned around and took a deep breath. Things were crazy around here all the time. I was about to keep going when I heard a fight going on.

Oh no! What if Jag was in trouble again? I ran as fast as I could only to stop in pure disbelief. A woman in an all black outfit, with a lot of arrows in a quiver, was fighting some chick with really long nails.

The long nailed chick kept trying to scratch the woman in all back. The overwhelming need to help the woman in black flooded me to a point I was somewhat frantic. Where was her bow? I looked around, nearly groaning because I didn’t see it.

A glimmer caught my eye, and I knew I’d spotted the bow in the pond. I dove without a second thought, swam down to the bottom, and grabbed it. I came back up to see much of the same happening in their fight, but the long nail chick was losing.

I wasn’t sure why she was even fighting. Long nailed chick should run away, considering she was getting her ass kicked. I swam to the edge of the pond as a man in a hood flashed by me, grabbing the bow from me.

I yelled, “HEY!” He was crazy fast though. I rubbed my head. The Hooded guy yelled, “BA!” The woman in black caught the bow on reflex, loaded it so fast I could barely register it, then sank three arrows into the long nailed chick.

My jaw dropped. The guy in the hood and the BA woman turned towards me. I took in her whole look as I climbed out of the pond. She had on a long black trench coat with a black bodysuit. I loved her boots. Her mask was black too which made her blonde hair stand out.

I asked, “Are you ok? She had like insanely long nails. I can’t believe a nail technician let her get nails that long because definitely she had to get them done like that.

I have a first aid kit at my apartment. I could go get it and be right back.

I’m pretty fast. Not him fast,” I pointed at the Hood man, “but fast.”

BA smiled, “I’m fine. Thank you for getting my bow.” I shrugged, “Umm, sure. No problem.” The man in the hood commented, “Yes, what great lung capacity you have to get all the way to the bottom and back up.”

BA shoved him in the arm. Lux and I used to be like that. I wondered if they were brother and sister. The guy asked, “What? I’m just pointing out how strange it was.” I laughed then clapped a hand over my mouth.

I apologized, “I’m sorry. You just remind me of my brother and I miss him.” The hood guy asked, “Where is he?” I shrugged, “I don’t know. I haven’t seen him in a really long time.” They both tilted their heads, then ignored my presence.

The hood guy crossed his arms, “You weren’t supposed to be in this area, BA. I can only think of one reason why you were.” Hood guy turned to face me. I asked, “ME?! No, you can’t mean me. That would be crazy. Is there like a Robin Hood society here?” The guy laughed while BA shoved him again.

I asked, “What? She’s clearly the female Robin Hood. You’ve got a hood and a mask, so it makes sense.” BA asked, “How did you know I was the good guy?” I said, “I’ve seen posters from the hero movies, they are the ones in costumes. Also, I just knew I had to help you.”

I winced, “For some reason. In all honestly, I’m not really sure why. Lately, if I think about things too much, I get a headache. So, I’m not going to focus on that because it feels like a spike is being driven into my brain. What I know is I had to help you, and I accept that.”

The guy in the hood seemed amused. BA flashed in front of me while I blinked several times. BA said, “Thank you for helping, Katie.” I asked, “You know my name?” BA winked at me asking, “Is it your name?” I answered honestly, “Yes and no.” The guy in the hood laughed again.

BA waved her hand, “Don’t mind him, he’s keeping secrets. Can I tell you one?” I snorted, “Sure.” BA winked, “Men think they are so good at keeping their secrets, but we just let them think they are. I know all the secrets the men in my house keep.”

I laughed, “You should talk to Key’s mom then.” Now the guy in the Hood hunched over laughing. BA grinned, “Call me BA. Why should I talk to Keaton’s mom?” I explained, “A lot of people in her family tell me to keep secrets. Daniels men, I guess.” They both laughed.

BA said, “Yes, well I’m positive they aren’t as good at keeping their secrets as well as they think. Maybe they walk around the house smiling and whispering, forgetting who they are dealing with.” I shrugged, “Yeah, she seemed pretty all over things when I saw her.”

The hood guy asked, “When did you see her?” I admitted, “They all came to the school when my boyfriend’s toxic ex punched him.” BA’s fist clenched. The hood guy said, “I heard the punch only landed because he was looking at you.”

I gasped, “Me? Well, I was there. I think his ex is just crazy. She keeps trying to use him as a Kleenex. She has a screw loose or several.” Both laughed.

I changed the subject, “So you guys really are some like secret Robin Hood society. Don’t worry, I won’t tell anyone.

I’ve got a lot going on anyway, and who would believe that? ”

The hood guy retorted, “Who indeed? Why were you out here?” I snorted, “Well, since we are all keeping secrets for each other and all I suppose I’ll tell you.

The song in my head hissed at someone I bumped into so I started running.

They chased me but stopped. I was about to leave when I heard the fight, and you know what happened after that. ” They shared a look.

BA told me, “It was a pleasure to meet you, and I appreciate the help. I am capable on my own, but a helping hand is always nice and welcomed.” I snorted, “That’s not really my motto in life, but I’m glad I was here to help.”

The hood guy asked, “What’s your motto in life?

” I snorted, “Everyone leaves so only count on yourself. Though several people are making me think that’s not true.

” BA pulled me into a tight hug, “It’s not true, I promise.

Do me a favor and don’t run into the woods if you’re being chased.

Scream really loud, and a lot of people would come running. ”

I reasoned, “You’re supposed to yell fire. That’s what they say in all the assemblies.” BA snorted, “You just have to yell for help around here.” My phone started to ring so I pulled it out. It was Keaton. I said, “Umm excuse me.”

I answered, “Hi, Key.” My boyfriend asked, “Where are you?” I answered, “In the woods.” He growled, “Why?” I said, “Uhh that’s a long story. I was running away from someone I bumped into.” That did not help because I felt his intense anger. Yeesh.

Keaton declared, “I’m coming.” I was confused, “But…” He hung up.

I sighed, “I didn’t tell you where I was.

” I heard a laugh behind me. Both the Hood guy and BA said, “Goodbye, not Katie.” I shrugged, “I guess that works. Bye Robin Hood and Female Robin Hood, who goes by BA.” They laughed again and sped away.

I rubbed my eyes, berating myself, because I had to make an eye doctor appointment. I began to jog back to the main path. I had just reached it when Sassy started singing. I stopped but it wasn’t Keaton. It was a giant black wolf.

I guess it wasn’t a dog I’d seen the first time. He was too far away for me to tell, but up this close it was obviously a giant dire wolf. I groaned, “Sassy, stop singing to a dire wolf!” Sassy smugly kept singing. The wolf whined.

I frowned, “Are you hurt?” I walked slowly towards him with open hands. What am I doing? We don’t walk towards wolves, Odette! They will eat us! Well, maybe not. I could be the wolf whisperer. I had the rabies wolf. Why not this black one? He was beautiful.

I held my hand out so he could sniff me. Gosh, this was clearly a dire wolf. What was I doing? The wolf sniffed and put his head under my hand. I giggled, “Aren’t you a big softie?” WHAT DID I JUST SAY? I obviously want this thing to eat me. I was strangely confident it wouldn’t though.

I spoke in a baby tone, “Who’s such a pretty wolf? You are.” The wolf began to purr. I laughed, “I have to go find my boyfriend, but maybe I’ll see you again. I’m apparently the wolf whisperer. I have my rabies wolf….” He growled as if annoyed.

I reprimanded him, “Don’t be jealous, he’s not as pretty or big as you. He’s helped me out a lot though.” The wolf huffed so I scratched under his chin which had his leg began to twitch. I smiled, “I’ll look for you again, ok?” He nodded seriously as if he understood me.

I took off running towards my apartment. I was a few miles away when Keaton grabbed my waist. I screamed, “AHH!” He twirled me around. I asked, “Umm, how did you get behind me?” My boyfriend kissed me hard, not answering.

I was more than happy to forget the question as we got lost in each other. It was easy to do. I wrapped my legs around Keaton. Why was this man running around shirtless? He must have taken it off in my apartment.

Keaton began sucked on my neck, going lower, and lower, until he reached the spot between my neck and shoulder. I gasped and pulled him closer as it felt like a live wire running through my body. My boyfriend growled.

I begged him, “Key, please.” I didn’t know what I was even asking for, but I needed it. Keaton tensed and held me tightly whispering, “You can’t say that. You don’t know what you’re asking for.” We were startled when we heard noises.

I unwrapped my legs and got down. There were several black wolves staring at us. I asked, “Is there a pack of black wolves that hang out? Because I saw one earlier. I mean he was prettier than them though.” I swear to god Keaton purred. The other wolves snorted and ran off. Ok, that was weird.
