799 THE DISEASE
Iris was alarmed when she heard the urgency in Jace’s voice, she felt like her world crumbled in slowly when she learned something bad happened to Ethan. Her heart was thumping so wild when she got off the bed and intended to rush out of the tent to see the gamma.
However, Cane grabbed her wrist and put on a cloak over her thin dress and then took her hand to walk out and meet with Jace.
"What happened?" Cane asked, as they walked toward the other tent and the beta gave them a brief summary about what was going on.
Ethan got food poisoning, but it was not anything life threatening, he only fell sick and had a fever, something that happened to the other warriors when they were being poisoned, though the knights took it rather harshly and two of them didn’t make it, but the shifter’s healing ability helped tremendously with this situation.
"Earlier when Aliana helped him to cool off his body, she found this on his chest." Jace pulled the blanket that covered Ethan’s body and showed the burn mark on his left chest. "I think this is Grebis."
This was the first time Iris saw Ethan again after a few weeks he was in the battlefield with Cane.
The gamma looked pale and right now he was unconscious, while Aliana sat beside the makeshift bed without saying anything, her eyes looked empty and she didn’t utter a single word either.
She held his hand tightly and didn’t avert her gaze from Ethan’s sleeping face.
"Grebis?" Cane narrowed his eyes, he squatted down and checked on the burn mark on Ethan’s left chest and what the beta said was right. It was indeed Grebis. He had been in the Silver River pack before and watched closely about this disease.
The problem was; there was still no cure for this disease and most of the people that infected would end up with a bad ending, more so what made them even more alerted was the fact they didn’t know what the cause of it.
"Grebis?" Iris knelt down beside Cane, her heart was beating very fast against her ribcage, she felt like she was having a hard time to breath when she spoke with trembling tone. "Didn’t you say that you it’s an incurable disease?"
Iris dreaded the answer.
However, the disease was not only infected the people in Cane’s campsite, but also alpha Derick’s warriors. The problem was; they didn’t have a healer to help them with the situation.
This was one of the reasons why alpha Derick had not yet given an order to attack Cane’s party when the Silver Warrior managed to poison their food storage and put them in difficult situation when food was already sacred during this season.
They just came out from a harsh winter and the problem with the crows after all.
But, another problem why alpha Derick was hesitated was because Cezi went against him. He was adamant for his father to check on Arella first and dug more information about what prince Kellan had been doing, whether Cane’s assumption was right or not.
Alpha Derick didn’t want to have any suspicion on the prince that he adored so much, but then Cezi’s stubbornness and how out of character he was to go against him very strongly got alpha Derick to think the possibility of it.
"How do you want to check on it when Arella can’t even talk?" alpha Derick finally gave up when Cezi kept plastering him about this matter.
Currently, Arella was still with prince Kellan.
Prince Kellan led his warriors to besiege Diandem pack, which made them only a pack away from each other. Even until now, prince Kellan couldn’t crack the fortification that was shielded by a hundred magic users under the command of alpha Colter.
Without those magic users, sure enough, all of them would be dead by now and Diandem pack would have been conquered long time ago.
"Can’t you see? We have problem here with the Grebis disease!
All of our warriors will die in this rate!
We need to join prince Kellan in the border of Diandem pack, we can abandon this pack and based our stronghold there," Cezi suggested.
"With that, we can keep our eyes on prince Kellan and Arella.
" Cezi touched his shoulder, he felt uncomfortable.
That was an efficient way, but alpha Derick didn’t agree with that.
"Int that way, we will be pit in between Cane’s warriors and Colter’s warriors, it will give us limited space to move." Alpha Derick stood his ground.
"Do you want to stay here and let our warriors died gradually?
There are around a hundred warriors that have been infected and the number will not go down.
This disease will not disappear eventually, it will kill us!
" Cezi was frustrated, he pressed his hand against his shoulder unconsciously because he had been feeling unwell since two days ago, but he brushed it off, thinking it was only him being too exhausted.
However, alpha Derick caught onto it and grabbed his hand to see what happened with his shoulder. "What happened with you?"
"I think I hurt my shoulder during training," Cezi replied.
But that reason didn’t hold the water when both of them knew a shifter wouldn’t have such injury for a long time.
And to their horror what they saw on his shoulder was something that made the room fell into the pit of silent.
There was that burning scar on his shoulder, it was small, Cezi didn’t even notice it.
"You are being infected?" Alpha Derick felt his world collapsed. His only son was being infected by this disgusting disease?!
Meanwhile, Iris was staring at the same burning scar on Ethan’s left chest when the Serafim entered the tent, she too, looked very exhausted, as if she was about to collapse anytime soon.
Everything that happened in the past few days had taken a toll on her. Her face looked gaunt.
