Chapter Avoidance #12
I grabbed Angelique. I urged, “Stay… it’s ok.” Angelique looked at me, panicked. My friend whispered, “I can’t do this to him. He’ll be hunted.” I disagreed, “No… he will be HUNTING whoever comes for you. Trust me. No one in their right mind would hunt him. It would end… so, SO badly for them.”
Angelique studied me. Haley said, “My husband has Supernatural hearing even though I don't, which is bullshit. Because I need to have the Supernatural hearing everyone else does, but NOOO my damn Fairy side got in the way of that.”
Haley waved her hands, “That’s not the point. I was going to say that you can’t leave by Supernatural means since I’m temporarily keeping you here. You at least owe my nephew an explanation or some shit. I think it’s more than an explanation because he’s a good man.”
I felt someone behind me. Angelique’s eyes were wide with fright.
She was a tough woman, but she told me she’d always been told she’d never have a mate because she was forbidden.
I told her, “You always deserved to be happy, Angelique. He can help you… probably better than I can, because he can take you to a whole other realm. No Bounty Hunter will come after you again… it would be a death sentence.”
Gabe’s voice was deadly when he asked, “Why the fuck would someone come after my mate? Let alone a goddamn Bounty Hunter.” I stepped out of his way. Xander popped behind me. I linked him, “You should call Hastein. Cayden always said he and Gabe are close.” Xander quickly sent a text on his phone.
Angelique whispered, “I’m sorry. It’s just that my life is complicated and I never stay anywhere too long. Honestly, until I met Melanie and her gang of misfits….” Xander growled and my friend trailed off. Angelique looked over at him and smirked.
Angelique chuckled, “Melanie and her friends did not belong where they were. I bet they even stand out here.” I blushed. Angelique turned back to Gabe, “I honestly didn’t look for you because my whole life I’ve been told there’s no one out for me. I’m a partial Demon and Angel mix.”
Gabe said, “Yeah, I got that. I don’t fucking care. You are mine and NO ONE comes after what is mine.” I said, “You’ll be needing to kill an Angel then. If I go get my laptop I could tell you which one.” Gabe said, “Easily done.”
Angelique gasped, “You can’t just kill an Angel. Particularly not the one after me.” I hummed because she was wrong. If it was her aunt… well the one I thought it was… then that aunt was not of Michael’s line. I’d checked.
Gabe argued, “I can and will. No one threatens my mate.” I whispered, “Ask him his name, Angelique.” Angelique shot me a glare, and I bit my lip. Angelique rolled her eyes as a portal opened. Hastein walked through with his dad.
Both shot me a look. What? What did I do? I was clearly helping. Freya agreed, “We definitely are.” I knew that they appeared not to. Freya chuckled, “They do know that.” Then what was with the looks?
Angelique asked, “So, what is your name? I’m Angelique.” Gabe asked, “Is there a last name with that?” I winced and Gabe’s eyes narrowed on me. Angelique answered, “Nope. No last name. It’s just Angelique.”
Gabe looked at me asking, “And why is that?” Angelique said, “Well, that’s….” Gabe interrupted, “Oh, I was actually asking my cousin's mate. She’s a terrible liar who knows why you don’t have a last name.”
I blushed, “Umm… I was going… to get… my laptop… and get you an Angel’s name so you could kill her. She’s a bad Angel anyway… sending people after Angelique to kill her…. so… I’ll just go… and get the name you want.”
Gabe argued, “No, you will not. You can go after you answer my question. You are very good at getting away with not answering questions. I’ll even give you a pass on most of them, but not this one. Not about my mate’s safety.”
I frowned, “A’s lack of last name isn’t about her safety. It’s about the idiocy and prejudice of two groups of people. I mean… well… that’s… just my opinion… kind of… not really… actually it’s completely true… oh my god I’m going to get my laptop.”
Gabe blocked my path stating, “You know a lot about the Hackura.” I nodded because that was very obvious at this point.
Gabe continued, “You know I will never hurt you.” I nodded again because that was never a thought, or question, of anyone in this room.
Gabe would protect me from anything and I knew it.
Gabe pointed out, “You suspected when you told me to stick around that your friend over there was mine.” I said, “I thought that before… like a while ago but… it’s hard to… that was complicated… to explain but maybe….”
Gabe interjected, “Tell me why my mate doesn’t have a last name and what the fuck being prejudiced has to do with it. Because I will paint the streets red with those people’s blood if they hurt her. I think you want that too.” He was right, I did.
Freya agreed, “Let’s tell him. I dislike how our friend was treated, and I want them to pay for it.” I really did think that Angelique’s parents and her family were a bunch of jerks. With a few exceptions. I sighed and shot Angelique a look.
If she didn’t want me to tell him she’d tap her finger on her thigh but she didn’t. After several moments I turned back around because my friend didn’t use our signal. I answered, “Because neither of her parents would give her their name. They are mates.”
“Her mother is an Angel, her father is a Demon. They weren’t trying to get pregnant, and her mother claims she didn’t know. Which is a lie. She did and she wanted her mate's child. They show up occasionally in Angelique’s life.”
“Her half Demon brothers and… an Angel cousin, have worked together to keep her alive through childhood. They trained her on her powers and checked in with her. She doesn’t have a last name because they didn’t think she was worthy of one.”
I pointed at myself saying, “I personally would LOVE to see you shove it in their faces that her last name will be Cambridge… that she will be a Princess of the Hackura one day.” Gabe said, “Her last name IS Cambridge right now.” Ok… well… he just wanted Angelique to cry.
Gabe’s eyes blazed with anger. I said, “I’ll just go get that Angel’s name now… yup… everyone have fun with the blazing angry eyes… that were not really my fault when you think about it.” Angelique said, “I’m sorry, did you just say Princess, Mel?”
I smiled answering, “Oh yeah, umm Angelique… this is Prince Gabe Cambridge… so… you’re a Princess… and your family is going to have to eat literal crow. No, seriously… can that be thing someone makes them do? They so deserve that.”
Haley snorted “I could make them eat a damn crow so that saying would actually make some damn sense.” I quickly escaped out of the office and got to work. Valentina had left the wallets of the Bounty Hunters on my desk.
I easily hacked in and worked my way backwards. I snorted when I found out who it was that put out the hit. Freya said, “It’s exactly who you expected.” Which was good because she was someone Gabe could kill.
I felt Xander’s shock and regret in our bond. I wondered what happened. Hastein’s voice made me jump. “Who is it? You clearly found them. Who is trying to harm my brother’s mate?” I put my hand on my chest. I linked, “FREYA!” my wolf sighed, “I’m still hungry.”
I said, “Normally people can’t sneak up on me.” Hastein nodded, “I’m sure. Who is trying to have my brother’s mate murdered?” I asked, “Has anyone told you all… you have an element of creepiness to you? It’s cool… but also very sinister.”
“Your whole vibe is ‘I’m asking you a question and not even implying I’m going to rip people’s heads off… I’m going to massacre them and make them wish they were dead’ that’s the kind of vibe you all put off. I’ve tried to emulate it… but I don’t think it works.”
Hastein smirked, “I’d be happy to try and teach you. I find it fascinating you know that’s our vibe, yet you ditched Alexander’s Guard.” I shrugged, “They will be upset but they’d never hurt me… other people… sure. Like you plan to hurt so many people.”
I gasped, “Hey! How did everything go with K and her other side to her? It’s awesome… right?” Hastein smiled broadly admitting, “I was surprised. That’s not something I say often, but her other half is stunning.” I agreed, “She really is.”
Xander snorted, “Neither of you will say what K is?” Angelique came into the room looking lighter than I’d ever seen her. Gabe was right behind her evaluating everything around her with a hard look. Angelique said, “I myself wished they would’ve slipped and said what she is. I like K.”
Hastein asked, “You know her?” Angelique smiled saying, “Melanie has a way of bringing people together. I lived with K for several months. I miss my roomie. How do you know her Mr. One day King?” I smiled knowing Angelique would love the answer.
Hastein answered, “She’s my mate.” Angelique squealed, “SHUT UP!” Haley asked, “Why? Why do people fucking say that in this realm? They don’t mean it. She does not actually want Hastein to stop talking.”
Angelique smiled, “I so don’t. Ohh the trouble K and I will get into in the Hackura realm. Our shenanigans will be legendary! I have so many places we need to go to.” I laughed while several people looked confused.
Angelique’s comments only made sense to me and my friends. I made T.V shows and movies for Angelique because that’s how she learned and kept her focus instead of folders and tests. So, she literally had places she’d want to visit and would freak out like she was on a studio lot.
Xander asked, “Lovebug, who is coming after Angelique?” I shot Angelique a look and she shrugged. I sighed and told everyone, “One of her aunts.” Angelique snorted, “It will Laila. She’s always felt super betrayed that my mother gave birth to me.” I nodded, “It is her.”
