Chapter 7 That’s Three #8
Jason linked, “DID YOU SAY THANK YOU?!” I replied, “What else does one say when they’ve been healed?” Jason groaned, “You are infuriating. He’s your mate. You just thanked him. Like he gave you a notebook.”
I reasoned, “Obviously I know that he’s my mate… so I’m not sure what point you’re making. It’s customary to say thank you when people do nice things.” Jason groaned back. Ok? I was right. Freya chuckled, “I am yet again the most popular wolf to talk to in the field.”
I snorted, “Well, best of luck with that. They yell… when I didn’t do it.” Freya laughed but I was just happy the pain was out of her tone. The battle was won now and Hastein had Kingsley in his arms. I smiled at my friend and noted her wrists were healed.
I linked my mate, “Did you eat something after healing me and K?” Alexander replied, “Are you serious?” I answered, “Umm… yes… I’m usually serious…
based on my tables… you should eat a protein bar…
but a sandwich would be preferrable.” My husband looked at me then conjured a sandwich and practically inhaled it.
Eric laughed, “I love our daughter in law so much, Angel.” Haley replied, “As do I.” Sierra said, “No one in the history of time will ever love Melanie’s Xander like she does.” I blushed. Freya growled, “They better not!”
I linked Valentina, “Take Julian and see if the presents we’d bought for Hastein and Xander are… salvageable, please.” Valentina snorted, “Julian can fix them if they aren’t.” I said, “You’ll have to shimmer in and out since Julian won’t be able to pop.” Valentina grabbed him and shimmered away.
Kingsley asked, “Mel, are you ok?” I nodded asking, “How’s your head?
” My friend snorted, “I’m hard to hurt. That stuff you have in my watch packs a kick.
” Hastein’s head jerked to mine questioning, “You have a serum for her too?” I nodded, “Of course. She has a watch… she needed one too. It required a lot of research and….” Angelique grabbed me, cutting me off before pulling me into a hug.
Angelique apologized, “I’m so sorry. I should’ve stayed with you guys.” I shook my head, “No, it should’ve been fine. We were just trying to do a normal thing. Have a shopping trip to buy Christmas presents, but NOOOOOO. We just happen to get spotted by an evil, grudge carrying Demon family.”
“For the record, I’m done with leisurely drives. No more cars. The next one damaged or totaled would be the one Xander bought me… and then I’d have to tap into my rage box because it’s from Xander… and the rage box needs to stay closed.”
Dad linked, “Rage box?” Tristan linked, “What the fuck is a rage box?” Jason groaned, “You have a rage box?” Mom winced, “That can’t be good.” Haley commented, “It’s definitely not. Speaking from experience, it’s bad.”
I ignored them lamenting, “Three… that is THREE freaking bad car accidents! Did you know the average car accident, IF one gets in them, is every eighteen years. EIGHTEEN YEARS! I have been in three BAD accidents and I’m twenty years old. This is freaking ridiculous… it’s a plot! A LITERAL PLOT!”
Angelique asked, “Does it matter that you’re almost twenty-one?” I threw my hands in the air, “NO!” Angelique chuckled. I growled, “Three freaking bad accidents.” Freya offered, “You already said that and talked about your rage box out loud. Let’s just take deep breaths.”
Jason questioned, “I’m sorry, you’ve only been in three accidents? Because that seems impressive. Are you not counting the one where you working?” I snorted, “No, of course I don’t count those! I cause those… that’s clearly different.”
“Car chases are NOT the same as getting in an accident where you were just driving. When you are anticipating a crash that’s NOT the same. I’m so sick of getting in car accidents when I’m trying to do NORMAL things.” Xander rubbed my back.
Kingsley apologized, “I’m really sorry, Mel.” I snorted, “For what? Driving and trying to be normal? It’s not your fault SELENE REFUSES to let me have a normal moment. It’s her. I blame her… she’s the worst… and petty! We were VICTIMS of a PETTY GODDESS TANTRUM!” Freya said, “I tend to agree.”
I walked over and kicked Rolfin in the side. I said, “I don’t even feel bad for you that Hastein is going to do something godawful to you. You KNEW it was a mistake to take K and try to kill me, but you did it anyway.”
“Yes men drive me insane. If you THINK something is a bad idea… then it probably is. You have the ability to say no and WALK AWAY. Why can’t we have normal things? Why do you have to take these things away from us?”
“Do you know how obnoxious the men in our lives are going to be about shopping trips now? There will be guards… galore. I’m seeing my wolf guards over there and their facial expressions say… I’m not going alone again…. and they feel bad I was.”
“Even though… my friends shimmered us away… and they were not at the main house… because this was a last minute plan. Chason has a PUP! He probably has presents to wrap… but you guys brought him out here… because you suck!”
“UGH! There will be Hackura guards too… even though we are fully capable. Kingsley’s guard is going to be full on obnoxious about not being here. Do you understand who her head guard is?! Because… he’s intense… I mean… maybe… I totally don’t know who it is.”
Tristan groaned, “Please stop trying to lie. It’s somehow getting worse.” I muttered, “And that’s just another annoying thing you did Roflin… I don’t even care that blaming you for my poor lying skills is… unfounded. I was ready to kick your butt with a broken arm and foot.”
Rolfin wheezed, “How did you get out of the car?” Mason snorted, “We’ll never hear the end of this if she busted out the window.” I snarked, “I did bust out the window. So, you can all go ahead and apologize because I was right.”
“This is why I ignore people… because the UNIVERSE proves me right. The watches needed that tool. How did I get out of the car? Well… burning to death was not on my to do list today Rolfin. You all seem to discount that I have a will to live.”
“I’m WITH my Xander and he WANTS to be with me.
I lived for the hope of him and me… you really think I’m going to let you take him from me?
No… that’s not going to happen. I will fight anyone and anything I have to…
to keep him. He’s mine… and we are together…
and WOE to anyone who thinks they can stand between me and this life I now have. ”
Sierra snorted, “I mean, that’s true. I feel it should be obvious too.” Abigail offered, “Totally obvious. Our Luna will go scary mean and evil on people who try and it’s fair.” Wesley agreed, “Definitely fair.” I waved my arms, “SEE, ROFLIN?!”
I paused then added, “Also, what kind of self-respecting Demon uses a match to light a car on fire? You can THROW fire. It’s just insulting.
That’s what it is. You were INSULTING me.
You didn’t think I was WORTHY to use your Demon fire on.
Well… the jokes on your disrespectful self. ” Xander pulled me back against him.
Rolfin said, “Dirsha take your rejection back, please.” I gasped, “Did he just ignore me and everything I said?” Sierra answered, “He did.” UGH!
Freya said, “I am deeply offended.” Dirsha snorted, “Are you high? You just attacked K after she helped me. You tried to kill a Conners mate, and it’s even one who helped me! ”
“I literally couldn’t want to have less to do with you. I was leaning towards rejecting you anyway. You’ve put me through too much. I’ll say this though; I’m glad you’re not with my sister. She’d have let you mark her and with what they will do to you, that would kill her.”
“Thanks to TJ here, my pain was minimal. They didn’t even have to bring me here. They could’ve just let me deal with the pain of your death. I was the fool who didn’t reject you sooner. These are good people. Only your idiotic family would dare cross the Conners and the Cambridge's.”
Rolfin cried, “We didn’t know K was mated.” Hastein asked, “Do I look like I give a single fuck that you didn’t know?” Rolfin whimpered. I answered, “Since he’s not good at answering people… I will. Nope. You do not look like you give a single one.”
Hastein smiled at me, “Thank you.” Kingsley escaped his grasp and came over and gave me a hug. Valentina shimmered back in and winked at me. I said, “Thank you, Julian. For uhhh secret stuff.” He nodded.
Tristan linked, “No, no more secret stuff.” I replied, “He got the presents we bought… well… he definitely conjured new ones…. but it’s secret present stuff… for Christmas.” Tristan nodded and relaxed, then clearly linked my family the answer because they also calmed down.
I told Kingsley, “Julian saved our presents.” Kingsley laughed, “Thank God since H isn’t going to let me out of his sight.
I thought I’d have to print off a picture of his present and order it.
” I agreed, “He definitely isn’t. I could…
” Kingsley replied, “I know you could.” Look at my tables…
that’s what I was going to say. Kingsley winked at me.
Ok… I guess we weren’t talking about those.
Charles said, “It’s always a good time around you, my dear.” I teased, “Aren’t you glad you stopped by?” Charles said, “I am.” I turned to Sierra saying, “I told you that it had been too quiet.” Sierra sighed, “I told you not to borrow trouble.”
I gasped, “This isn’t MY fault. The crazy deities that be…
that’s who is to blame. One simple task.
Christmas shopping with the girls. That’s it.
That’s all we wanted. Shopping and then out to eat.
I can’t go out to girls night, and I can’t go shopping with my friends. It’s just so freaking ridiculous!”
Kingsley rubbed my back. Honestly, I was more upset for her than myself. At least Angelique got a normal experience. Kingsley didn’t normally celebrate the holidays. I didn’t want anything to change her enthusiasm for them. Why couldn’t we just have a normal time?
