Chapter 15 Drunk Melanie #12
When I made it back to the house Xander scooped me up into our car.
I worked from my laptop using my hotspot to the hotel.
I was checking my portfolios and investments.
Maverick commented, “Holy shit, Melanie! You have like millions of dollars.” I replied, “Umm…. This is just part of my portfolio. I’m a billionaire… but so are you.”
Maverick shouted, “Billionaire?! With a B?” I answered, “Uhh yeah, but so are you.” Maverick snorted, “Well yeah but my dad gave me startup money, yours didn’t.” That was true. I made this all on my own by fighting and investing.
I said, “It takes a lot of capital and financing to keep the Resistance up and running. I have to make sure I’m on top of my investments.” Maverick laughed, “I have a guy that helps me, but I think I should just have you do it.”
Olivia threw out, “You definitely should. Mel does mine, and I’m fairly wealthy myself.” All my friends were. I even had a few things set up for Odette. I’d just never got the chance to give it to her. So, for now, I still managed her portfolio.
Odette had given me some money to invest because I paid her to do shows with the Rebels, covered her rent and everything else so she could be a kid.
I’d more than returned profits for her. I hoped to give them to her one day.
I looked out the window, sad that I couldn’t find her. It was definitely magic.
Xander linked me, “Mel?” I sighed, “I was just thinking about a friend. I can’t find her, but I really want to.” Xander encouraged me, “Then you’ll find her, I’m sure of that. Nothing, and no one, can hide from you.”
Except Morgana, I thought bitterly. She had to have magical help. Maybe Paige could do something about that. Why hadn’t I thought of that before? Silly Melanie. Freya linked, “You are not the world’s problem solver.”
I kind of was…. regardless, I WANTED to be Odette’s problem solver. I wished for the millionth time I’d had Freya when I met her. Or had personally known Aiden Holloran at the time. He could’ve helped me with her. He’d know what she was, whereas I had guess and supposition.
When we reached the hotel, we all checked in and put our bags down in our rooms. We met the group in the lobby. I immediately noticed people looking at our group and snickering. Specifically looking at Eric. Oh boy. Freya said, “That is unwise.” Dylan must have already started selling his statues.
I picked at my sleeve wishing I’d dug into the statues Dylan got. What were they? Because the laughter was not implying they were normal. Xander was tense along with his siblings. Finally, when we went to get lunch in the restaurant attached to the hotel Xander linked me.
My husband asked, “Do you know why people keep laughing at my dad?” I answered, “I am fairly certain I do… but… like this is kind of telling me I should’ve looked more into it.” Xander asked, “Why?”
I explained, “Dylan Frost is selling statues of your parents… Goddess and God statues. I’m beginning to think your dad’s statue is uh… something… funny… which I didn’t think… from like the description of god… but I clearly should’ve found the exact picture of it.”
Before Xander could reply Haley ground out, “Efuckingnough of this shit.” My mother in law popped over to the table next to us. Haley demanded to know, “Why are you daring to laugh at my damn husband? Do you think I’ll let you get away with that?” No…. they did not.
The couple answered, “His god statue Former Beta Dylan Frost is selling at his booth. Everyone’s talking about it.” Haley frowned, “What statue? Did you buy one?” The woman held up Haley’s statue, it was gorgeous. My mother in law had pink wings and the likeness to her was stunning.
Haley smiled, “Well, that’s just beautiful. What is Eric’s?” Eric was beside her in a second. They both looked at him nervously and shuffled their food on their plates. Haley asked, “Did you not buy his?” The woman answered, “We did but….” She trailed off.
Eric growled, “Show me.'' I bit my lip knowing I really should’ve looked into this. Freya told me, “This isn’t on you, nor was it your responsibility.” It was feeling like it was. Eric’s second Fairy power was being kept under wraps… which meant even Dylan might not know about it.
The woman took the statue out with trembling hands and my jaw actually dropped. Never in a million years would I have thought that was the statue. Xander said, “Oh my god, he didn’t.” Haley gasped and said, “Oh fuck.”
Eric roared, “DYLAN FUCKING FROST! YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME WITH THIS SHIT!” My father in law stormed out of the restaurant. Haley sighed, “Well, I don’t know how to keep him fucking calm about that. I’m off to save my friend Dylan’s life.” For once, I actually thought Eric might punch Dylan.
I nearly bit through my lip, worried that Haley’s reaction to that statue could bring up trauma. That definitely isn’t what Dylan wanted. I really should’ve looked into this. Freya said, “That’s not your responsibility.”
Yeah… but Dylan didn’t understand trauma responses…. and I did. Xander grabbed my hand and threw some money on the table. My husband declared, “It’s going to take all of us to save Dylan’s life. Let’s go.” This was going to be interesting.
