Heart to Heart #2
Mark snorted, “If I wanted to die, sure.” I asked, “So, if I have my mom or my sister make you tell me the truth there won’t be some sort of compensation for you not turning on those people who were hurting my wife?” Mark paled.
Max said, “I think I’ll turn his kneecap to rock next.
” Mark howled, “No! No! I…” He trailed off again then admitted, “was to be rewarded.” I asked, “How?” Mark sighed, “I was going to be paired with a Gamma’s daughter, or a Beta’s, as my mate.
I never got to meet any of the girls because Melanie fought for them, then they ran away from their families and they never found them. ”
I pinched the bridge of my nose. I said, “So you were going to forcibly mark some girl.” It wasn’t a question.
Mark emphatically stated, “No, I wanted to get to know the girl first. I wanted her to agree. She would’ve had to stay in my house until we got to know each other better and she was marked; however, I never intended to use the threat of my given mate’s family dying. ”
Wesley snorted, “Given mate.” Mark said, “That’s what they were. People say chosen mates, but there was no choice. She wasn’t going to be my fated mate. She would’ve been given to me.” There was actually some logic to that.
I looked at Levi saying, “You were tracking him down.” Levi nodded. Tristan said, “I’m working with Levi on tracking down all of Trevor’s friends. We’ve killed a few.” I smiled, “Of course you have. Good work, cousin.”
Mark sighed, “I could tell you Francis will be somewhere around. He won’t be with Trevor unless Trevor needs him to do something stupid.” I said, “Trevor and Francis are in the Hackura realm.” Mark snorted, “Of course they did something dumb and you caught them.”
Levi sneered, “You’re one to talk.” Mark argued, “I still turned myself in.” I rolled my eyes saying, “You’ll still suffer for the decisions you made.
” Mark asked, “Can I please talk to Melanie?” Tristan growled, “She won’t save you.
” Mark laughed, “I know that. I just want to talk to her.” I thought about it and told him, “That’s my wife’s choice. ”
Suddenly, dad pulled me to him. I announced, “I have to go. Levi, do you have him?” Tristan asked, “Is something wrong with my sister?” I answered, “My dad pulled me, not Melanie.” Tristan relaxed. Levi assured me, “I’ve got this, cousin.”
I nodded and popped to dad with Max and Wesley. I looked around seeing my guard was here with my dad, along with a border patrol. My stomach dropped and I closed my eyes. Oden growled, “This is about mate.” I could tell that.
Wesley said, “So, Melanie left. I’ll call Levi since we don’t want T to think we lied.” Max snorted asking, “Who cares? We can’t lie, and we didn’t.” Dad said, “Max.” Max looked away. I asked, “What’s going on here? Where is my mate?” I could tell she wasn’t here in the bond.
Dad sighed, “Melanie was working on something. She said she had an opportunity to save you and her friend.” Egres went to speak but I held up my hand. I tried to pop to her and was thrown back. I yelled, “SON OF A BITCH!”
I called Melanie. Oden said, “Freya is in so much trouble right now.” Melanie was ranting like always. I linked dad, “Why is my mate worried about Hastein getting to Kingsley?” Dad replied, “I just know Melanie called Aaron to get H to K.”
Egres was on the phone, probably getting that answer. Melanie was going to turn herself over in place of Kingsley. Gage linked, “This is the worst plan EVER!” Oden growled, “We need more time to come up with a better plan.”
I asked, “What is Freya saying?” Oden grumbled, “That she has a plan and they would miss the opportunity if they don’t take it.” DAMMIT! My mate was actually giving herself over to Vampires?! VAMPIRES! This was a terrible plan!
I liked it better when I thought she was going to fight them, but no. She was just letting them take her. Perfect. Just what every mate wants to hear. Gage linked, “Your eyes are very golden.” I shot him a look, and he held his hands up.
Oden snorted, “Oh good. Mate’s had a plan for years.
WHAT IS THE MOTHERFUCKING PLAN, ALEXANDER?
! I was without her for OVER A DECADE after I smelled her.
I want her back. NOW!” I retorted, “Because I don’t?
We have a stubborn, smart, gorgeous mate.
What do you want from me? I can’t make her come back any more than you can get Freya to agree to come back. ”
Oden growled, “They want to protect us. That’s why they are doing this. We are perfectly capable of protecting ourselves.” I told him, “I am aware.” Oden said, “Mate’s not going to be able to sit down for several days when we get her back. SEVERAL.”
I agreed with that. My wife was getting spanked. A lot. I might even use a paddle. Oden muttered, “We are one hundred percent spanking the shit out of them.” I reasoned, “I still agree with you.” A green code flashed on my watch.
Oden said, “Charming. Green for go. UGH! Worst plan ever!” I could feel Melanie’s amusement and excitement. Oden was grumbling loudly in my head. My wife wanted us to keep the McAlister’s from losing it.
Gage snorted, “The McAlister’s? Melanie does realize you are going to lose it, right? You can’t keep them from losing it if you’ve also lost it. I deserve this phone call over you if we are trying to keep people calm.”
Our call disconnected. Max and Wesley looked at me while I glared at my guard. I asked, “How the FUCK did you let this happen?!” Hastein, Kingsley, and Aaron came through a portal. Kingsley groaned, “Mel went already, didn’t she?” Aaron sighed.
Egres said, “We went in as soon as you called us, Aaron.” Melanie’s pain exploded in my chest. I snarled, “She let them take her.” Kingsley let out a huff and clenched her fists. I asked, “Aaron, what the hell do you have to do with this?”
Aaron answered, “Melanie tried to call you, and probably several other people. She didn’t have Hastein’s number on hand. I tried to get her to wait.” I held up my hand, “You weren’t even here.” Dad chimed in, “I tried to stop her.”
I snorted, “No one is fast enough. Micah is going to have to take my phone and set it up so that Melanie’s calls come with some sort of panic alarm beeping noise, so I answer it no matter what.” Max confirmed, “He can do that.” Oden grumbled, “We already knew that!”
I linked Phil, “Get out here with Sierra.” Phil replied, “Umm, I lost Sierra. Her watch blinked green and she took off like she’d been shot. Where are you?” I answered, “Outside with Gage and a conglomerate of people.” Phil came outside and shot Gage a look.
I linked Julian, “Where is your mate?” Julian answered, “Val shimmered away. What’s going on?” I ordered, “Get outside.” I pulled all my siblings to me. EJ popped in first asking, “Did something go wrong with the meeting?”
Kingsley snorted, “Not his meeting. I could’ve handled this.” Hastein rubbed her arm. EJ sighed, “Oh god. What did Melanie do?” Julian said, “Something tells me there’s a plan that’s in motion. I saw a green flash on Val’s watch.”
I growled, “There is. Phil, link Sierra to send Micah information on how to track Melanie. I have to make a damn call.” Dad asked, “To who?” I growled, “Charles. Freaking Vampires.” Oden growled, “I dislike that I understand we have to call him.”
I stepped away and called the Vampire I didn’t want to.
Charles answered, “Young wolf, I must say I’m surprised.
” I surmised, “Then you aren’t wearing your watch.
” Charles laughed, “I do have it somewhere. What code was sent out?” I growled, “Green.” Charles was quiet before saying, “I’m on the way. ” He hung up.
I stared at the phone for what felt like several minutes.
I walked back to the group grumbling, “The damn Vampire knows what the code means. I don’t know what the code means.
It’s so hard to like him as it is. I already have to be grateful to him for being there for her when I wasn’t. Now, he knows the damn plan.”
Dad told me, “I filtered everyone inside. Are you ok?” I snorted, “No, I’m surprised mom isn’t out here.
” Dad explained, “She’s inside. I’m the one you need to vent this one through with.
Your mom would do something similar. Actually no, your mom would do exactly what your mate did if she had the opportunity.
So, your mom is not going to say what you need to hear right now. ”
I conjured a heavy bag and hit it. I roared in anger, “Melanie had this plan, but we could’ve talked about it. I’m an Enforcer for god’s sake! Planning is something I’m good at.” Dad agreed, “You’re right, you could’ve talked about it.”
I growled, “I know that.” Dad offered, “I’m sure Melanie didn’t think it would happen this fast. It’s something you should discuss when we get your mate home. Because we will get her home. You both are new at this.” Oden grumbled in my head.
Dad continued, “Melanie’s used to unilaterally making decisions and doing things immediately. That doesn’t make it right, but it’s just something you have to work on together. Your mom and I didn’t become a unit overnight.”
“Communication is always something that we work on and it’s never a walk in the park. Everyone messes up, son. Every relationship takes work, and the work is never done. Melanie is going to be ok. She’s tougher than nails, and we will learn what the plan is…” He trailed off and looked behind me.
I turned around and saw Cory standing there.
I asked, “What’s going on?” Sierra spoke from behind me, “The first of the arrivals are here. It will be Caine, Dax, and some other packs from Nashville.” I warned, “I do not want to hear the word Nashville right now. This plan is that places fucking fault! Melanie NEVER would’ve done something like this if she’d stayed in Red Run without ONE of us. ”
