Chapter Thirty #2
Chief reaches into his desk and pulls out the letter. He then slides it across the desk to face us so we can read it.
Hello, my name is Victor Esquivel, and I am a professional assassin.
I was hired by Jamie Herrera with the objective to kill a man named Julian.
My instructions were to kill the man and place the murder on a man named Guildford Nacar, which is why you currently have him locked up.
I confess to the crime and hope to be forgiven by both whomever reads this message and by Guildford Nacar.
It’s nothing personal, I was just doing business.
The piece of paper has blood on it as well.
“See he admitted to killing Julian. Our father is innocent, can he be released now?” Wraith asks.
“I’m thinking so but let me do some more research and do my job right before I do so.” Chief Caleb replies. “I may be able to skip some steps and have your father home by tomorrow morning.”
I smile. “That’s some good news.”
Chief Caleb looks at me and smiles.
“Fingers crossed; I may have to pull an all-nighter though.”
“Are we done here?” Frani sighs. “We have a party to get ready for.”
Chief Caleb nods.
“We’re done here so far.” He replies. “Have fun tonight you three. But not too much fun otherwise you’ll be spending the night in your father’s cell.”
“Yeah, yeah.” Frani waves him off as she gets up and walks to the door.
Wraith kisses my neck before standing and exiting the office with my hand in his.

“Holy shit.” Frani says as we approach the lake the party is being held at.
“What do you think?” Fritzi asks.
He’s shirtless with a sexy chain themed chest harness on, his entire torso covered in fake blood.
It makes his tattoos pop in my opinion. He has on a pair of shorn jeans and spiky fingerless gloves.
His make up is that of a skeleton of an ape mixed with I’m thinking the human skeleton, if his black colored eyes and pointed teeth around his mouth is anything to go by.
“It’s... something.” I say, looking around the place.
“I know after multiple concepts of what we wanted the party to be themed this what we came up with.” Fritzi says. “Gotta thank our indecision.”
There are life sized skeletons hanging from the tree, fog covers the lake and land, those Halloween lights they saw at the Halloween store are stung up around the branches of trees.
The tables are covered in ripped, bloody caution tape, the table holding all the food and beverages of course have skeletons of bikers with the wheels on fire—not literally though.
Fritzi made the fire out of colored tissue, the same tissue one would use to wrap gifts.
It’s a lot more, almost too much to take in.
There are even some people already here, partying as the music pumps through the speakers covered in spiderwebs.
“Where’s Wraith?” Fritzi asks.
“Oh, he’s at home putting on his costume.” Frani responds.
More people enter the park and walk over to either the tables or where the food and beverages are.
“Nice we have his guy all to ourselves.” Fritzi grins, wrapping an arm around my shoulders.
“Fritzi stop being a dumbass, you know if he heard you say that shit he’d kill you.” Frani says.
“But he didn’t, so what’s the harm?” Fritzi says.
Frani rolls her eyes.
“When he breaks your arm for provoking him don’t come crying to me asshole.” She says before walking away.
Fritzi sticks his tongue out at her as she walks away.
“I saw that.” She says, flipping him off, her back still to us.
“You didn’t see shit!” Fritzi calls after her.
He then turns to me, and it makes my stomach flip for some reason. He doesn’t look like he’s up to anything good.
“What?” I ask.
“You look like you could use a drink.” He replies.
“W-wh-what kind of drink?” I ask.
He smiles and takes me to the food and beverages. He grabs a glass and all the ingredients he needs. I watch him make a drink and frown when I see the color.
“Why is it black?” I ask.
“It’s a Black Magic Margarita.” He supplies.
I look at it for a moment. He then adds eyeball gumballs in it.
“For the spooky vibe.” He adds.
The color by itself looks spooky already.
“Hey, don’t give it that face, you’ll hurt it’s feelings.” Fritzi says.
“What face, I’m not making a face.” I say.
“Yeah, you are, you’re looking at it weird... with a judgmental expression on your face.” He argues.
I smirk.
“No, I’m not.”
“Hey, don’t knock it until you try it.” He says.
He picks up the glass and takes a sip. He groans.
“Fuck yeah, that’s the shit right here.” He nods. He then thrusts it to me. “Try it. It’ll hit that magic spot in you.”
I snort before taking the glass and taking a sip. I let the flavor of the drink sit on my tongue as I try to decipher if I like it or not. Fritzi looks at me with a grin on his face.
“How is it?” He asks.
I take the lime he placed on the rim of the glass and bite it. I shiver in delight as the sour taste of the lime assaults my mouth.
“It’s... I honestly just want the lime.” I state. “Not that the drink is bad it’s just not my style.”
Fritzi shrugs. “Alright, fair enough.”
I look at all the food that’s sitting out on the table.
It’s mainly junk food that ranges from spicy chips, regular ships, Halloween inspired candy, store bought pies, and more.
My eyes light up when I see two rows of delicious candy apples.
I reach for one and my stomach growls when I see the long string of caramel dripping from the apple.
I feel the warmth coming from the caramel and my mouth waters.
“Here.” Fritzi says, his arm outstretched toward me, a plate in his hand.
I take it and place my apple in it. He then takes the plate from me and grabs a knife from his thigh strap. He then talentedly cuts the apple.
“There you are.” He says, handing the apple back to me. “Nicely cut, ready to be demolished.”
I laugh and he follows suit.
“Demolished?” I ask.
“Yeah.” He laughs. “You looked ravenousness when you are looking at it. I heard your stomach growl, and I think I saw your pupils dilate.”
I roll my eyes with a grin on my face.
“Whatever.”
Fritzi smiles at me. I then take an apple slice and bite into it. I groan as the caramel melts in my mouth and the juicy apple dominates my taste buds.
“These are so good.” I say.
“Yeah!” Fritzi cheers. “I did a good job on them.”
“You made all of these candy apples?” I ask.
He nods.
“Took me some time but I got them done.”
I give him a thumbs up before finishing my apple slice.
