His Luna. His Equal
Kieran POV
The night air was thick with the scent of pine, crushed flowers, and the electric hum of a kingdom holding its collective breath.
As the grand clock within the stronghold chimed, I stood at the heart of the sacred clearing, a space carved into the very soul of Valdora.
This was the Altar of the First Shift—a massive, ancient slab of white stone that seemed to glow with its own internal luminescence under the light of the full moon.
It had been decorated with an opulence I hadn’t seen since before the Great War.
Braided garlands of white roses and silver-leafed ivy draped from the surrounding oaks, and thousands of fireflies, drawn by the residual magic of the ceremony, flitted through the air like living, dancing stars.
The setup was breathtaking. A wide path had been cleared from the castle’s west wing all the way to the altar, the ground carpeted in a thick layer of pale iridescent petals that shimmered like fallen snow.
Giant bouquets of lilies and night-blooming jasmine lined the walkway, their fragrance almost intoxicating.
Behind me, the fifteen pack Alphas of Valdora stood in a perfect semi-circle. They were a wall of power and authority, dressed in their finest ceremonial suits, leathers and furs. To my left stood my mother, her emerald gown catching the moonlight, her expression one of serene, regal pride.
In front of me was the pedestal, a pillar of obsidian that held the Silver Chalice—the vessel that would seal our union and connect Aurora to the kingdom.
But despite the grandeur, despite the thousands of wolves packed into the clearing until every inch of the forest floor was occupied, my world had narrowed down to a single point. Toward the castle doors.
‘Almost time,’ my wolf prowled in the back of my mind, his golden eyes fixed on the path. ‘She comes. Our Mate.’
The stars above seemed to pulse in anticipation, the sky so clear that the stars looked like a spilled bucket of diamonds.
A hush began to fall over the crowd, starting from the back and rippling forward like a wave, until the only sound was the crackle of the ceremonial braziers and the distant, rhythmic thrum of the forest.
Then, the doors of the west wing opened.
First came the honor guard. Mara led the procession with the lethal, fluid grace of a prowling predator, her shimmering obsidian gown carving a sharp, dark contrast through the delicate sea of flowers.
Close behind her was Lyra, soft and radiant in sweetheart-pink silk, her face shining with unshed, happy tears she was clearly fighting to hold back.
Elara followed next, embodying the effortless, undeniable poise of nobility in a sleek, blood-red silhouette.
Finally came Kaia, the brilliant architect of this mystery.
Clad in a boldly vibrant, sweeping A-line gown, she wore a look of fierce, artistic triumph.
And then, she stepped into the light. My mate. Aurora.
The air didn’t just leave my lungs; it felt as though the very earth had shifted beneath my boots.
Aurora didn’t just walk; she commanded the ground she moved upon. She wasn’t wearing a dress. Not in the traditional sense at least. Kaia had crafted something that defied definition. It was a fusion of power and celestial royalty.
At its core was a sculpted bodysuit of luminous pearl-white silk, fitted so flawlessly it looked as though moonlight itself had been poured over her skin.
But Kaia had been careful not to drown Aurora in pale shades that would make her look ghostly.
Instead, deep celestial blues had been woven throughout the design like veins of a midnight sky breaking through fresh snow.
Panels of sapphire and deep indigo curved along her waist, hips, and ribs in elegant lines, accentuating the lethal grace of her figure while creating a striking contrast against her pale complexion.
The boning beneath the bodice shimmered in silver and cerulean, branching across her torso like delicate constellations etched into steel.
Tiny midnight-blue crystals had been embedded along the structure, catching the firelight like fragments of fallen stars.
Layered over the bodysuit was a breathtaking construction of silk and gossamer tulle that formed the illusion of a gown without ever sacrificing movement.
The skirt remained dramatically open at the front, revealing the powerful lines of her legs beneath cascading layers of translucent fabric.
What began as soft silver-white near her waist darkened gradually into rich twilight hues—storm-blue, sapphire, and finally the endless indigo of a moonless sky near the hem.
The train billowed behind her like a living galaxy.
Thousands of tiny sapphires, diamond dust, and silver-threaded rhinestones had been stitched into the sweeping fabric in sprawling celestial patterns.
Every movement sent stars rippling through the folds of the gown, as though the night sky itself had come alive around her.
It was something both regal and untamed.
Less like a delicate princess and more like a goddess forged from moonlight and war.
The bodice plunged just enough to remain undeniably regal, its sharp lines softened by flowing celestial embroidery that curled across her collarbones and ribs in intricate silver patterns reminiscent of ancient lunar markings.
The balance of white, sapphire, and indigo transformed her pale skin and white hair into something breathtaking rather than fragile. She did not look soft.
She looked ethereal.
Her hair had been styled into an intricate crown of braids woven with ribbons of midnight-blue silk and tiny, glowing moonstones. Her makeup was subtle, enhancing the sharp, aristocratic slope of her cheekbones and the startling brilliance of her eyes, which were now fixed solely on mine.
She was radiating. It wasn’t just the constellation of jewels or the sweeping, starry fabric; it was a physical aura of power, a shimmering celestial light that seemed to bleed from her skin.
The crowd didn’t just stay silent; they submitted.
It started with the lowest-ranked wolves at the edges of the path, dropping to a knee and exposing their necks in an ancient display of reverence.
The wave of submission moved inward, a sea of warriors and nobles bowing as she passed.
Even the proud, hardened Alpha lords standing behind me on the altar stiffened, their eyes wide with a respect that bordered on primal awe.
As she reached the base of the altar, she paused, her midnight-blue train pooling around her like a captured night sky.
The fireflies swirled in her wake, drawn to the ancient, wild Argent magic humming in her veins.
When she looked up at me, for a fleeting second, that flawless regal mask softened.
Beneath the starlight and silk, I saw the fierce woman who had completely stolen my heart.
I stepped down from the pedestal, shattering royal protocol because I couldn’t wait another breathless second to reach her. I extended my hand, my fingers trembling slightly and took her hands in mine. Her skin was warm, vibrant, and buzzing with an electric, untamed power.
“You are...” I started, but my mind completely failed me. “Aurora. You look... Oh Moon Goddess, I have no words for this.”
A small, secretive smile touched her lips. She leaned in, her voice a low, melodic purr that only I could hear. “Kaia poured her entire soul into this outfit, and she practically begged me not to ruin it. If I stumble, Kieran, you’re catching me.”
I let out a shaky, quiet laugh, pulling her fingers to my lips and pressing a reverent kiss to her knuckles. “I will never let you fall. Not tonight. Not ever.”
With her hand securely in mine, I led her up the final steps to the pedestal. My mother stepped forward from the shadows of the altar, her eyes shimmering with unshed tears as she took in the breathtaking sight of Aurora.
“The Moon Goddess provides the canvas,” my mother whispered, “but only a true Luna Queen can fill it with a soul.”
My mother turned, picking up the massive ceremonial chalice forged of silver and sapphire.
With measured, deliberate steps, she walked to the back of the altar where the fifteen Pack Alphas stood.
One by one, without a shred of hesitation, each Alpha drew their ceremonial daggers.
They sliced their palms, holding their hands over the vessel to let a single drop of blood fall into the wine.
My mother returned to the pedestal once more, the heavy silver and sapphire chalice now swirling with the dark, rich crimson of the fifteen Pack Alphas.
It wasn’t just blood; it was an oath of fealty, loyalty, acceptance, and the physical tether that would bind Aurora to the vast, sprawling network of our kingdom.
With grace, my mother set the chalice gently upon the obsidian pedestal between us.
Now, it was my turn.
I withdrew the ceremonial dagger from the sheath at my hip.
Holding my hand over the vessel, I met Aurora’s brilliant eyes.
I didn’t flinch as the razor-sharp steel bit into my palm.
My blood welled, thick and hot, and I let my offering fall into the wine.
This was the final, vital anchor that would weave her soul into the Royal Pack.
My mother stepped back, raising her hands toward the full moon above.
“Under the eternal gaze of the Moon Goddess,” my mother began, her voice ringing clear and authoritative across the breathless silence of the clearing.
“We bear witness to the joining of two souls.”
She turned and looked at me. “My beloved son, Kieran Blackwood, Alpha King of Valdora, do you bind your soul to Aurora, your fated mate? Do you swear to protect, to honor, and to lead as one?”
I didn’t look at my mother. I couldn’t look at anything but Aurora.
“I do,” I said, my voice thick with a profound, aching gravity that felt like it might tear my chest open.
I desperately wanted to reach out, to pull her against me, but I knew I had to hold back just a little longer.
“But more than that, Aurora... I bind my heart to yours. You are the light that pulled me from the dark. I claim you not just as my Luna, but as my equal, my reason for drawing breath. I am yours, until the stars burn out and the earth crumbles to dust.”
Her eyes grew impossibly bright, shimmering with a heavy, glassy sheen, but she fiercely held the emotion at bay, refusing to let a single tear fall.
“Aurora Argentis, of the Argent Kingdom,” my mother continued, her voice softening with raw emotion. “Do you accept this bond? To stand as our Luna Queen, to guide, to nurture, and to reign beside Kieran, our Alpha King?”
Aurora took a deep breath, her posture straightening as she fully embraced the beautiful weight of the moment. Her eyes locked onto mine, blazing with a fierce, unwavering devotion.
“I do,” she whispered.
