AFTER HOURS AN UTIVE SUITE SECRET SHORT STORY
It was strange being back, and it wasn’t because we were on the top floor of Courtland Enterprises after hours. Roughly five months had passed since I’d lost my job at Courtland and I’d been back twice, but always during regular work hours, allowing me to chitchat with Kaylan and other former co-workers.
This time, it was almost midnight and only a handful of low lights burned through the massive floor while all corners and meetings rooms were in deep shadow. I paused in front of the enormous Christmas tree decorated with red and gold ornaments. While Sebastian had a special team come in to decorate the various departments, I’d always asked him to let me handle this tree and his office personally. At the time, my apartment was too small for a tree, and I didn’t have money to throw away on such extravagance as holiday decorations, so decorating the office was a good surrogate.
