14. Lexi
CHAPTER 14
Lexi
Saturday
O pening the door to my room, I can tell the house is quiet. Entering the kitchen, I can see that someone was up because the coffee was made. I make myself a cup of coffee and drop two pieces of bread into the toaster, just so I can have something to eat. Once they are both made I sit at the counter and pull my phone from my pocket and open it to check my emails.
Remote work begins on Monday and I need to check that everything is inline for me and ready. I click on an email from Matthew, just as I hear the front door open and close. Heavy footsteps are heard heading my way and by the sound I can tell it’s Camden.
Placing my phone on the counter I turn my head with a smile towards the kitchen entrance just as he walks in, heading to the coffee also.
“Morning, Cam,” I say and he smiles, continuing to walk to the opposite side of the kitchen where the coffee maker is.
“Morning, Lex. How did you sleep last night?” he asks as he fills his cup with the caffeine goodness. His voice always gives me goosebumps. I have always been a sucker for a man with a deep commanding voice, and his reaches levels inside me I could never admit. When he turns to face me, he has a devious smirk lifting the corners of his lips. Leaning against the counter and crossing his legs at the ankles, he lifts the cup to his mouth to take a sip.
He knows damn well that I heard them last night. I barely got into my room before they went at it. Staring at him, I give my head a little shake and smiling.
“I slept really well,” I reply, tilting my head to the side. My fingers circle the rim of the coffee mug playfully and he chuckles.
“I bet you did. Do anything… interesting before falling asleep last night?” he asks, once again taking another drink. His eyebrow quirks, challenging me. We stare at each other for a bit longer before I am the one to break it, laughing.
Shaking my head, I finally glance down into my cup. “Shut the fuck up, Cam. Seriously?”
He laughs heartily. I haven’t heard him laugh this hard in a very long time. I lean back in the chair, smiling at him, shaking my head once again. He uncrosses his ankles and walks over and sits in the chair right next to me. He sits his cup on the counter and turns the chair to face me.
“We need to talk, Lex,” he says, leaning his forearm on the counter causally. I sit my cup down after finishing off the coffee, and turn to face him.
“Sure. What’s up?” I ask.
He clears his throat, before he begins. “Were you serious last night? About Shayna?” he asks me. He sounds hesitant, which isn’t anything like him. He’s very domineering and confident. My brow furrows with the questions. I mean, why wouldn’t I be.
“Yeah, I was serious. Why would I lie about that, Cam?” I ask and lean forward a bit. Trying to relay the seriousness of the matter.
Cam takes a deep breath and releases it, before starting again.
“I just don’t want to see either of you get hurt, and knowing that Shay has been hurt in the past by something just like this,” he says shrugging.
“Alyssa, right?” I ask and he nods. “Yeah, she told me about that. I’m sorry that you were both hurt by what happened.”
“Thanks. So you understand why I need to be sure you’re serious about trying,” he says.
I lean on the counter looking at Cam, trying to understand where this is coming from. He’s known me for a while now, and knows I don’t play with things like this.
“Cam, you know me by now. And you should know that I wouldn’t play with something like this,” I say, and when he goes to speak again, I hold my hand up, halting him. He closes his mouth and gives me a small smile allowing me to continue.
“I know I haven’t said anything, but I have had feelings for Shayna for a very long time. Even before Jason. But because of my respect for you and your marriage, I haven’t said anything or done anything. This… All of this is new to me. I’m not going to lie, I am a bit anxious but at the same time, eager as well. If you know what I mean.”
Reaching over, Cam gives my forearm a little squeeze, trying to comfort me a bit and gives a little laugh. “I’m not trying to say I don’t trust you. Please don’t take me wrong. I’m just concerned is all. I think because of what happened with Alyssa, Shayna is going to move slowly and still be a bit skeptical, is all. And that’s why I wanted to find out where you were at with all of this,” he says.
“After everything I’ve been through, you would think I would want to move slow, but that’s not the case with her. She’s different and with my past, she’s a breath of fresh air.”
Camden sits there taking in my words for a moment. I can tell he’s warring with himself, then notice when he comes to whatever conclusion he’s arguing in his head.
“Alright. I know Shay and she’s going to pussyfoot around this before trying to really take the leap. She will want you to make the first move. How about that little date we talked about last night… what if it was here and took it up a notch in the heat department?” he says with a mischievous smirk on his lips.
My playful side is all in on this, especially after listening in on them last night. I had to charge my toys afterwards from the length of time I used them.
“I’m definitely in. What do you have in mind?” I ask.
“Like I said, she’s going to wait for you to make the first move… so, let me give you the opportunity and opening. Plus I think it will help you also because I can still tell you’re hesitant about me. I guess worrying that I’m going to be upset or angry. Maybe, me being there will alleviate that also,” he says.
And he’s not completely wrong. I mean he kissed me the other night, but I’m not sure if he is really interested in me like that, or just trying to make me feel better about the situation. I know I’m attracted to him. Who wouldn’t be. He’s hot as hell and his dominating side is sexy, but I also know from what Shayna has told me he’s nervous because of what that bitch Alyssa did to them.
“What are you thinking?” I ask him with a devilish smile on my face.
Shayna walks back into the living room and sits her phone on the table. Both Cam and I look up at her as she does. Sitting down between Camden and I, she leans into his side.
“Everything okay?” Cam asks her, lifting his glass of Jack Daniels and Coke to his lips while taking a drink.
“Yeah. I just wanted to check in on Landon. Sometimes when he and Andy spend too much time together, they tend to argue. But not yet,” she says.
“That’s good. What about Darian?” I ask her. She and Cam laugh looking at each other then at me.
“Darian and CJ are probably just playing COD together. The people they are playing with probably don’t even know they are sitting in the same room together,” Camden says laughing. Both Shayna and I laugh along with him.
I lift my glass of wine to my lips as I notice Camden down the last bit of his dark drink. Jersey by Mayday Parade plays from Cam’s Playstation and he looks at me over Shayna’s shoulder. When he catches my eye, he gives me a little wink as he leans in kissing Shayna on her temple.
“I’m going to go take a shower,” he says, leaning forward and sitting his glass on the table.
Shayna hasn’t mentioned anything about the date since she got back from the post office earlier. That tells me she might be a little nervous like Camden said or she’s waiting for me to make the first move. I take a large gulp of my wine this time, because I know this is exactly what we talked about earlier. I’m nervous. It’s not the first time I’ve been with a woman, but this is Shayna. And Cam is going to be there too. The situation is very unpredictable, but I already told him I would do it.
Shayna leans forward as Cam stands up. She looks up at him and smiles. “Okay, babe,” she says. He leans down and kisses her lips softly. I raise my glass once again and finish off the rest of my wine. Seeing them kiss reminds me that I know exactly what both of their lips feel like. I’m so confused with this whole setting.
“I won’t be too long,” he says as he walks toward their room. Shayna watches as he walks away and we hear the soft click of the door. My heart feels like it's about to beat right out of my chest.
Shayna finally turns back to look at me. Giving me a soft smile, she notices my glass is empty. “Let’s go get a refill. I’m not tipsy enough,” she says laughing. She squeezes my knee as she stands and I follow close behind her.
We enter the kitchen and I head straight for the refrigerator, grabbing the bottle of our favorite pink moscato. I fill both of our glasses and return the bottle. Moving to stand next to her at the counter, we both raise our glasses for a drink.
As confident as she was last night, and all the other times, I don’t really understand the hesitancy here. I know Camden said that she’s scared of pushing it too fast because of their ex, but it’s different. We’ve been best friends for years. Maybe that could be the issue as well. She may be nervous that if things do go wrong, we will lose that.
“Shay…” I start, wanting to discuss it before anything that Cam and I have planned goes down. But before I can even finish a thought, I hear the door to their room open and Camden is heard from the room.
“Babe… can you come here real quick, please.” His deep booming voice carries to us in the kitchen, with the added please at the end makes us laugh. We both burst into a fit of laughter, then we head back to the living room. When she heads to their room, I move toward the couch.
“I’m coming,” she yells back then quickly turns to me, rolling her eyes and says, “I’ll be right back,” before she whispers loudly enough for Camden to hear, “The man probably wants to know where I hid his boxers.”
I laugh as she turns to head into their room. I sit my glass on the table and look down the hall. I notice that Shayna left the door to their room open just slightly. This is what I was waiting on. I move slowly towards the hallway, not wanting to make any noise. When I’m standing just outside the door, I peek into the room. There’s only a few inches of space to peer through, but it’s enough that I can see them standing in the middle of the room.
My pulse is thrumming with nervousness. I see Camden has his chest bare with all his colorful ink showing and his jeans unbuttoned, settling low on his hips. His feet are bare and they are talking quietly. His hands are on her hips and her arms around his waist, she has no idea I’m watching. I feel like such a voyeur just watching them talk quietly. His thumb is caressing the skin just below her shirt.
Every movement his hand makes has my mouth watering. I bite my bottom lip and squeeze my thighs together trying to alleviate the pressure and throbbing building there. The alcohol we’ve consumed this afternoon doesn’t help much either. My head is spinning and my skin is tingling. My eyes roam Shayna’s tanned legs up to her full ass. Continuing the upward track of her body, my eyes then connect with Camden’s. My heart jumps into my throat. I’m so nervous. I don’t want her to think that Cam and I conspired behind her back, so we’re going to try to make this as natural as possible… if that is possible.
His hand moves to caress her ass softly before gripping it tightly. He’s teasing me. My eyes follow the trail of his hands holding her, then just as quickly they are back to his. He leans down and whispers something into Shayna’s ear making her moan audibly. I’m sure he said something about me, but she still doesn’t turn to acknowledge me.
The hand not holding her ass slowly moves up her body and grips the nape of her neck pulling her flush with his body making her take a step into him. “Cam…” she softly says. “Lexi is out there waiting on me. We can do this later,” she says breathlessly.
He chuckles and once again, looks to me raising one eyebrow, letting me know it’s now or never. My heart is racing uncontrollably, but this is something I want and have wanted. My nerves are going crazy, but we have to make the first step sometime. And with Cam’s permission and encouragement, this is the perfect time. I slowly take a step inside the bedroom, my steps quieted by their plush carpet, and move slowly to where they stand.
