Chapter 27
Chapter Twenty-Seven
KAIA
“Hello?” I answered the phone while Daisy still slept next to me. I didn’t want to move to wake her up.
“Kaia. We need to have a meeting. In an hour. Don’t be late.” Drea hung up, leaving me no time to respond. I didn’t know what I did wrong, but that call didn’t sound very pleasant.
I groaned and leaned in to give Daisy a kiss on the cheek to wake her up.
I ran my hands up and down her sides until she smiled and started to wake up.
I’d never grasp the fact that I was lucky enough to see her in those moments.
I was lucky enough to wake up next to her naked body and know I was the reason for the smile on her face.
She finally opened her eyes, and I placed a soft kiss on her lips before she sat up, leaving the blanket at her waist. I tried and failed not to ogle her and said good morning.
“I have to go to work. Drea called for a mandatory meeting in an hour.” I kissed her forehead headed to the bathroom.
I stopped just before I reached the door and turned around. Daisy was lying there, watching me with a warm smile. I turned back around and returned to bed, leaned down, and placed a soft kiss on her lips.
What started out as gentle quickly turned into heated, and I found my way back into bed with a naked Daisy on top of me.
“Do you have to go?” she asked.
I closed my eyes and groaned when she started to grind on me, and I could feel her need. I let it go on for a little longer before I stopped us against my will. “Unfortunately I do. Drea sounded pretty serious on the phone. But I’ll be back.”
She pouted, and I really wanted to finish what she had started. “Promise?” She held out her pinky, and I linked mine with hers and kissed our thumbs.
“Promise. Go back to bed, baby.” I paused when she looked at me. I really needed to stop calling her that. I had no right.
I tried to apologize, but she stopped my hands and kissed me, making me forget about Drea and that I was supposed to be leaving. “I like when you call me that.”
I smiled. “I like when you say it, too.”
“You better get ready before Drea comes to get you. I’ll be here when you get back.” She kissed me again, and I groaned. I was dangerously in love with this woman.
Everyday, I came closer and closer to telling her.
Sometimes at night, as she was falling asleep, I’d whisper it in the quiet room.
I knew what we were doing was a bad idea.
Eventually, she’d get tired of it or find someone better, and I’d be heartbroken.
But I just couldn’t stop. The longer she let me be with her, the more in love with her I got.
I just had to hope she felt at least a little something for me.
Against my better judgment, I got dressed and headed to the bookstore.
On the way there, Daisy texted me to ask what I wanted for breakfast. I wanted to ask if she was an option, but I settled for eggs and bacon.
We were still in shallow waters, and I didn’t want to overstep.
I wanted anything she’d give me, and I accepted what she wouldn’t.
When I got to the bookstore, the lights were on. Drea wasn’t in the front, so I assumed she was in her office. I silently prayed she was alone.
Her office door was open when I got there, so I knocked once before entering. “Good morning, Drea.”
She looked up from her computer with a serious expression. That wasn’t a good sign. “Kaia, please have a seat. I’m just finishing up this email.”
I nodded and sat down without another word. The next several minutes felt like a lifetime. Why did she want to see me so early? Why did she look upset? I started thinking about anything wrong I could’ve done.
Finally, finally, she looked up at me… and crossed her arms. I steadied myself, ready for whatever she was about to yell at me for.
“How are things at home with Daisy?”
I blinked. “What?” She was asking about Daisy? Why?
She shifted in her chair a little, her forehead creased and making me fidget with my dress. “How’s it going with Daisy? Living together? Are you two… getting along okay?”
I frowned. I didn’t understand what was going on. She ruined my post-sex high to talk about living with Daisy? “It’s… good. Everything’s going good. Is that really why you called me so early?”
She hummed. “Of course not. I was just curious. I know things at the party were… tense, but you two seem to be getting on just fine, especially in the store.” She raised an eyebrow.
“We’re best friends, Dre. That’s usually how it works. You and Fallon get along… most of the time.” I wanted to smirk, but I was still a little nervous.
“We do get along, but we’ve never made out under the mistletoe.” My face flushed at the memory of that night, and she sat up in her chair a little. “And I’ve certainly never kissed her. In the store. While she was sitting on my couch. Topless.”
I froze. My stomach bottomed out, and I could feel last night’s dinner trying to reappear.
How did she know? Was she going to end our partnership?
I didn’t know what to think or say. Maybe it was a really lucky guess and she was trying to see if I’d confess.
I played it off. It wasn’t like we had sex like she had so many times before.
“I… I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
She cracked a smile. “Kaia, sweetie, did you forget we have cameras in the store? I got a notification after we closed and went to check, just to make sure it was you and Daisy still here closing up. You two were doing something all right.”
Well, damn. While Daisy had been driving me wild, I had forgotten about the cameras. I didn’t know how; I was the one who ordered them and watched them get installed. Freaking Daisy and her sex charm!
I couldn’t hide my blush or my smile. I blushed because I was mortified that someone caught us, but I smiled thinking about that night.
Feeling her on top of me. Seeing her boobs move as she ground on top of me.
If I had a superpower, it would be the ability to rewind time so I could live that night over and over again.
As I sat there, thinking about Daisy’s half-naked body, I started to grow a little protective. I couldn’t recall off the top of my head what position the cameras were in, and if she even saw a speck of Daisy’s skin…
I sat up a little straighter, hoping for a particular answer to the question I was about to ask. “Did you see anything? I mean, Daisy, did you—”
She cut me off with a laugh. “Oh, for fuck’s sake, love. No, I didn’t see your girlfriend naked. I only saw her back. That’s the part you want to focus on, though? That’s sort of sweet, actually.”
I blushed. “I’m so sorry, Drea. I definitely forgot about the cameras. It won’t happen again.”
“Listen, a little harmless making out is not a big deal. Just don’t pull a Fallon, please. Honestly, I’m more surprised than anything. I didn’t expect to get a show from you. Do you want to talk about it? When did it happen?”
I groaned. “It’s…” I paused, not sure how to explain it.
“I swear to God, if you say it’s complicated!”
Drea hated that word. After years of using it herself with her ex Skylar, and even with Blair in the beginning, and Fallon using it with her and Mackenzie, it made her on edge a little.
I laughed. “Sorry, but it is. It happened after the party. I don’t think she’s my girlfriend, but I don’t think we’re just friends anymore. I don’t know. To be honest, we haven’t talked about it. It’s still new. We’re just seeing what happens.”
She stood up and gave me a hug, and my confusion only grew. She was acting so weird today. “I’m happy for you, whatever’s going on with you two. I know you’ve wanted this for a long time. I’m glad I could help.”
“You helped? How exactly did you help?”
“If I hadn’t had the party with the mistletoe, you’d still be friend-zoned.” She laughed, but I didn’t find her joke funny.
“Excuse me, I loved being her friend. I mean, we’re still friends, I think. Ugh! I told you, it’s complicated. My brain is hurting.”
“Hopefully your legs hurt more.” She winked and I blushed, causing her to bust out in laughter. I was not talking about my sex life with her.
“Can I go back home now? I’d like to—”
“Oh, I know what you’d like to do. I’d like to do the same. With Blair, of course. But yes, you can go.”
I groaned. “Gross. Bye, Dre. See you in a few hours.
“Bye, Kai. I can’t wait to hear all the juicy details.”
I waved over my shoulder and laughed. “Not gonna happen!”
When I got back home, Daisy was still in bed, naked, and scrolling on her phone. She put her phone down, and I showed her just how much I missed her.
After our quickie and a not-so-quick shower, I made her breakfast and she asked about the meeting.
She didn’t seem to mind that Drea saw us, mainly because nothing happened and Drea couldn’t see her delicious chest. I was glad she wasn’t upset, and she helped clean up the kitchen before we headed to the bookstore for another day of work and stolen glances.
