Chapter 70

My plane is still leaving tonight. I have to be back at the UBN station in two days if I intend to keep my job.

Dom goes back to the rental with me to retrieve all of my things. When we walk in, it feels a world away from where my head was when I first walked in eight weeks ago. Like I’m seeing it clearly for the first time, with fresh eyes.

“I wasted so much energy keeping my mind in the past here,” I say as we walk in, running my hands over the countertops, like I didn’t give it enough of a shot when I first arrived.

I hear the familiar sound of Pru scooting her empty food dish across the floor. I bend down to refill it with the last of the cat food, then crouch down to pet her while she starts lapping it up.

“I don’t want to leave you,” I tell her, scratching behind her ears. Dom has agreed to keep her, falling in love with her just like I did, but I still feel gutted at the thought of it.

My flight leaves in ten hours. Which means in ten hours I’m supposed to board a plane and go back to everything that now feels so foreign.

I peek out the blinds to an empty deck, soaking in that view one more time. The streets of New York will feel excruciatingly hard and gray compared to what I feel when I look out there.

However, all that pales in comparison when I imagine having to leave the one part of this adventure that I can’t fathom leaving behind. I rush over to give him a long hug, feeling a deep gratitude for all the ways he’s helped me grow and open up over the last two months. Already looking forward to the trip he has planned to New York to see me next week.

We both startle at a bang on the other side of the wall, jumping in surprise.

“Rex must still be over there . . . I really hope we don’t run into him.”

“Oh, I had him kicked out of that place this morning after hearing what he did to you.”

“You what?” I cover my mouth, trying not to smile.

“I had Phil tell him that if he wanted to stay on the island, he better find another place to stay by noon because it’s not going to be in one of my units. And since I own about eighty-five percent of the private rentals on the island, plus a few of the hotel chains, that’s going to make it pretty tough for him to stay.”

“You what?” I glance over at the shared wall, imagining Rex angrily packing up his things on the other side. He came here to be with Juju, and in the process, he lost her, me, and now his reservation. Along with his potential to stay nearly anywhere on the island.

“I’ve had him blacklisted here for life.” Then, grinning, he turns to me. “Now throw your stuff in your suitcase and come on back to my place. You’re mine for the rest of the day.”

“But your place is so far away . . .” I wrap my arms around his neck and start kissing his jawline, nibbling gently at his ear. I run my tongue down his neck, leaving little kisses, unbuttoning his shirt as slowly as I can. “Are you sure we can’t make the most of this place one more time?”

He gives me a wicked grin. “You’re not worried about the neighbors?”

“Not even a little.” I smile back. “As long as you give me a reason to scream, I won’t even try to hold it back.”

He sets me back down and I slowly slip his board shorts down to his ankles, lowering to my knees to the floor in front of him. Keeping my eyes burning into his, I wrap my lips around his cock, flicking the tip with my tongue before taking the first half of him in my mouth, the skin like velvet. His eyes start to roll back as he pushes his hips toward me. I slip my mouth off, grabbing his balls in my hand while he groans and looks down at me, holding back my hair so he can see my eyes when I take him back in my mouth again.

But before I do, I add, “I promise I’ll stay here all day, as long as you promise to be anything but quiet.”

I hold his gaze and take him back in my mouth, sucking his shaft until he’s nearly screaming my name.

Without warning, I release him and race into the bedroom, shrieking while he runs after me. Then we hold nothing back for the rest of the morning, free to be as loud as we please.
