Chapter 19

This was my first time going to a Asian fusion restaurant. But as I had to do with everything concerning working for Guy, I”d studied proper etiquette and even managed to find out from Sandra what he was allergic to.

“Nothing,” she told me, and so after confirming the preferences of his party, I made the arrangements for the meal accordingly.

George was for some reason banned from coming along. Something about his face not being palatable to foreign acquaintances because it was sure to make them distrustful. He sounded quite bitter when he was saying this, but I had to admit that upon further study of his grumpy expression, I was sure I knew what Guy was going on about.

Despite his stern, nerdy, and much too rigid outlook, however, I had gotten to know him a bit more over the past week and couldn’t help but conclude that he was indeed pleasant. Not the most friendly, but fair and pleasant.

“What are you doing afterward?” he asked, and I was a bit startled by the question.

As usual, all my guard went up as I wondered if this was yet another proposition that I’d have to turn down, which would no doubt make things quite awkward between us. In the entire firm, he was basically the closest person to Guy in terms of time spent working together, and then me, so there was cause, more often than not, for us three to be together. I really just wanted to enjoy my work now.

“It’s the weekend, so my friend is coming over. We’re going to order some pizza and just relax.” I immediately lied.

“Alright,” he said, seeming disappointed, and then he started to walk away. To ensure this was platonic, however, I quickly remembered that I was supposed to ask him as well.

“What about you? Any events or dates planned?”

“None of the above,” he replied somberly and went on his way. Slightly miffed, I shook my head and returned back to work. A few minutes to six, the boss’s door was finally opened, and he walked out just as he was putting his jacket on.

“Ready to go?” he asked, and I nodded immediately, grabbing my purse and the needed files. I would be heading home from there, so even though I absolutely hated the heels, I had to accept that it was a required sacrifice for being seen and treated respectfully, so I sucked it up and rose to my feet. Guy was already on his way, so I had to try a bit to catch up to him. I met him standing before the elevator doors and instantly regretted running because now I was going to be out of breath in addition to being with my crush.

Yes, he was my crush. I had been forced to admit this after coming to work every day for an entire week and having my heart threaten to give out on me every time he appeared. And he walked silently, which made me all the more curious about him. I had Googled every bit of information about him that was possible. I had read his old cases, at least the ones I could date, and saw how he founded this firm at such a young age, why merging with John and getting his name on the wall from the billion-dollar settlement he won on behalf of a class-action lawsuit by residents of a small community about the lead poisoning in their water.

It had been a difficult case to work on, given his limited resources, but in the end, and against all odds, he had proven himself, more or less, to the whole world, and there was no stopping him from there.

I got in, smiling, even though I also avoided eye contact, so it was pointless in the end. I didn’t even know if he returned it, but it didn’t matter, I admonished myself. It didn’t matter. The thing was that between us and given how we had met; it would be difficult now for anything beyond work to happen. He had told me how attractive he found me and how he didn’t want it to interfere with his work. I didn’t quite believe that part, but it was easy to believe, especially from watching how careful he was around me, that he also didn’t want to end up being like either the boss that fed his secretary to the dogs or tried to devour her himself. He wouldn’t let our hands touch when exchanging documents, would never let his gaze unnecessarily linger on mine. It was almost as though he wasn’t giving me one instruction or the other just to him, only to exist.

It was a dream. With any other boss, this was what I would’ve wanted and had prayed for, but with him, I was getting quite frustrated. I couldn’t just find someone to take the edge off, since I was in no way a fan of one-night stands and my dildo had been worn out so hard it was naturally beginning to tilt, and through it all, it wasn’t enough.

I”d come to even become turned on by his scent, so as the elevator went down much too quietly, I couldn’t help but shift from leg to leg, squirming because my damn clit couldn’t behave. It was pulsing and throbbing, and all I could think about was him sliding that huge hand of his in between my thighs and grabbing me. Shutting my eyes, I released a deep breath, and suddenly his voice cut through.

“Are you sick?” he asked, and my eyes immediately flew open.

“What?” I jumped, startled.

His gaze perused me as though wondering why I was so worked up, then, as though he didn’t want to bother further with my bird brain, he turned away and ignored me altogether. A few seconds later, the elevator arrived on the ground floor, and he strolled out. He was rude but majestic. I couldn’t even complain after how things had unfolded between us on the first day. Since then, I knew I still made mistakes, but he remained silent.

I asked George one time when I had delayed informing him of the rejection of a patent application, and he’d smiled at me.

“Yeah, he should have chewed your head off for that. He”s being lenient, maybe because of the firing ban.”

I wondered what that was. I suspected what it was; however, of course, I was too afraid to ask him. Plus, it would most definitely seem like a slap in the face, so I kept my mouth shut and focused on doing better.

The ride over was silent but even more torturous. Here I was, completely surrounded by his heat and scent, and I couldn’t help but imagine what it would be like to fuck him right there. It would be preferably in the dark with nothing but his scent and heated breath surrounding us. I would be out of my mind with excitement, and the pleasure would encapsulate me so much I”d lose coherence.

I”d called out his name so much now as I”d come that it was more or less like a prayer. So, when people did that around the office, I automatically blushed like a tomato. Sighing, I released a deep breath and shut my eyes, but to my surprise, he spoke.

“You need to stop doing that.”

I was once again startled.

“What?” I asked, turning; however, as was usual, his gaze was staring out the window.

“The little breaths, the sighing, the restlessness. Are you nervous? Why?”

He turned to me then to answer the questions, and I understood what he was complaining about. I, however, didn’t feel remorseful because he was more or less doing the same to me. I could see the strain of his muscled thighs against the material of his pants, and more often than not, my eyes couldn’t help but stay upward, imagining… hunger.

“Okay,” I said and looked away; however, I couldn’t help but bite my lower lip.

At this rate, I was for sure going to lose my mind. It was only a matter of time.
