Chapter 9 Trampling the Garden
Xie Yunting hovered around Shen Wanrong. His eyes filled with the joy of reunion after long separation.
"Father really didn't reveal a word that Shen Wanrong returned to the capital."
"Today was too rushed. I couldn't prepare a gift for you. See what you lack? I'll send it tomorrow."
Shen Wanrong punched his chest casually.
"Oh, do we need to be polite? Helping organize the courtyard today was already a big help."
Xie Yunting blushed and stammered. "This, this is nothing..."
Shen Wanrong looked smug. She glanced at me sideways.
"Such big changes. Yaohua, don't you mind?"
I chuckled. I said "thoughtfully," "Since it's Shen Wanrong's courtyard, naturally change it however you like."
"It's getting late. Brother, hurry up. Avoid disturbing Shen Wanrong's rest at sunset."
Xie Yunting agreed repeatedly. He called people to start work.
But Shen Wanrong stared at me. She said unexpectedly, "Why didn't you stop it?"
She tilted her head. She examined me closely. She seemed to search for something on my face.
"Xie Yaohua, you're not what I imagined."
My brow furrowed slightly. "Then in Shen Wanrong's mind, what should I be like?"
She ignored me. She walked to Xie Yunting's side.
"Brother Yunting, those flowers and plants in the bed are too delicate. I don't like them."
"Better replace with lingxiao. Climbing straight up, vigorous and lively. Most exciting."
"Ah yes yes, I remember as a child you loved lingxiao flowers most."
She did it on purpose.
I clenched my fingers. I watched helplessly as the flower bed I carefully tended was trampled beyond recognition by those two.
Finally, Xie Yunting noticed me, the former owner, still there.
He glanced at me. He approached cautiously. "Yaohua, since Father let Shen Wanrong stay, it's not good to make her move out with big fuss."
"Besides, I see your Xiaoxiang Courtyard is also an excellent place."
"That's natural."
I was extremely compliant. I even followed his words with a laugh. "Don't worry about me. I live very comfortably in Xiaoxiang Courtyard."
Xie Yunting sighed in great relief.
He felt his sleeve. He pulled out a yellow jade waist token.
"I know you felt wronged. You've always liked this waist token, right? Today I gift it to you."
He finally remembered his original intent was to help me reclaim the courtyard.
This waist token was given to him by Xie Chengzong when he entered the imperial academy. It was valuable.
I had indeed coveted it. With this, I could freely enter any library in the city.
I suppressed the excitement in my heart. I accepted it without changing expression.
