30. Problems for Spike

CHAPTER 30

PROBLEMS FOR SPIKE

Leo

Panic.

It floods through my body as I look down and see Nisa nestled up at my side.

She lifts her hand and caresses my chest. Even in her sleep, she’s trying to get closer to me.

The panic is quickly replaced with an almost primal feeling of satisfaction.

She’s my woman, I’m no longer bound to the promise I made to her brother. In fact, by making her mine I’m doing exactly what he wanted me to do. Look out for her. As long as she’s with me she’ll never have to want for anything.

At least that’ll be the case the minute we get this shit with Marc done with.

A soft buzzing sound pulls my attention from her soft relaxed face. My phone lights up and buzzes again.

“Shit!” I hiss as I lean over as far as possible trying to get it. Even fully outstretched it’s too far out of reach.

In any other case, with any other woman, I’d have already pulled myself free and gone to take care of business but Nisa isn’t any other woman. I’ve never had to be gentle or considerate of a woman’s feelings before but just the thought of disturbing her right now makes my stomach turn. She should be this at ease all the time.

Slowly, as gently as I can I slide my arm out from underneath Nisa’s head. She grumbles for a moment before she gets comfortable once again.

My body aches and there are scratches down my back but I’m not going to complain. Nisa can scratch me up any day. In fact I’d be okay if she wanted to mark me up permanently.

The constant buzzing continues and I reach over for my phone only to see Eva calling me.

She knows better than to be calling me. If I want something from her I’ll call her. The only reason for her to be calling me is if she had some information from me. As much as I want to stay in bed with Nisa if Eva has some information I need to attend to it. Club business comes first.

I move over to the side of the room trying to get away from Nisa so I don’t wake her up.

“You better have a damn good reason for calling me.” The words are low but my anger is high.

“Damn Leo, do you wake up pissed at the world or what?” Eva jokes on the phone and it takes everything in me not to hang up on her. I don’t have time for this shit.

“What. Do. You. Want?”

“Easy, big boy, I’m calling for a reason. I need you to get down here.” Eva releases a sigh.

“I’ll send one of the boys to come see you.” Whatever she’s got up her sleeve I don’t want anything to do with. I’ll send Spike or Rumble over there to handle it. That’s what they’re here for I shouldn’t have to handle every little thing that crosses my path.

“No, I really think you should be the one to come handle this.” Eva nearly yells into the phone.

This isn’t like her. She’s usually calm, even ice-cold to some.

“Either you tell me over the phone what the problem is or I’m going to send one of the crew.” I snap back, looking over my shoulder for a second just to make sure Nisa isn’t stirring.

“Damn it, Leo, I don’t want her to hear me,” Eva whispers.

“Who?”

There’s a long pause on the line before Eva answers again, “Jayne is here.”

My heart squeezes in my chest and a cold sweat breaks out on the back of my neck.

There’s only one Jayne that she could be talking about.

Spike’s ex.

The one I paid a grip of money to go away without him knowing anything about it.

If she’s back it means shit’s about to hit the fan.

***

I feel like I’ve been keeping way too many secrets from my squad.

The whole point of being in an MC is to make sure everyone has each other's back but it feels like as of recently there’s been too many secrets coming to light.

This shit with Jayne is one secret I’d rather be kept in the dark.

The wind whips against my skin as I hightail it on my own back over to Eva’s motel. I don’t know what Jayne is doing here but whatever the reason I know I can’t let Spike know.

The usual suspects are lounging outside as I pull up to the small business. A few streetwalkers hang by the reception area in case of unsuspecting Johns.

“Oh if it isn’t the sexy night rider himself. When are you going to give me a go Leo?” Sparkle asks me.

I turn but don’t stop my stride, “I already told you, sweetheart, you can’t handle me. Come to the next party, I’m sure one of the other boys will be able to give you a go.”

To any other woman that would be considered an insult but not to Sparkle. Besides she’s been wanting to come to one of the club parties for the longest. This invitation is probably the highlight of her night.

I’m glad someone is having a good night. My good night ended the moment I had to leave Nisa alone in my bed.

When I get into the main area of the small motel I look around for Eva but she’s not at the desk.

Not more than five seconds have passed but I’m already fed up with being here.

Reaching over the desk I slam my hand down several times on the bell that is meant to get someone’s attention.

“Hello!” I bark.

A moment later I hear the clicking of heels and Eva comes sliding out of the back room, her face a mask of annoyance. It falls as she purrs in my direction.

“Oh, it’s you. I was just about to rip someone’s head off for being such a dick.”

“Yeah, well being a dick is part of my personality.” I shrug and cross my arms over my chest, “Now what the fuck is going on? Where’s Jayne?”

“Straight to business, then?”

“You think I raced over here to shoot the breeze because that’s not what I’m here for at all.”

“Relax, Leo. She’s not going anywhere. Honestly, I don’t think she has anywhere to go.”

“Take me to her.”

Eva walks around the counter and comes to stand right in front of me. She’s dressed in a tight silver dress and her hair is pulled back in a high pony tail. Any other day I’d be more receptive to the vibes she’s giving off but today, after I’ve been with Nisa, I wouldn’t care if Eva were doing cartwheels butt naked.

“Don’t you want to...”

“No, I don’t want to do shit but figure out what Jayne is doing here. Then I want to get back home.” My words are harder than they need to be but people like Eva need to know exactly what’s what.

“Fine shit. I swear this is the last time I’m going to call and help you out.” She rolls her eyes and turns on her heels walking in the opposite direction.

I follow behind her making sure to check over my shoulder in case someone followed me here.

I told the guys that I was going to take care of something on my own but that didn’t mean that Marc didn’t still have people watching us.

Right now he’s the only problem I should be focused on. Not whatever the hell was going on with Jayne.

Eva takes me to one of the smaller rooms, opens the door and gestures for me to come in.

I don’t hear the shower going but the steam is still billowing out of the open door of the bathroom.

“Eva?” A woman’s voice calls out and I groan at the sound. I know that voice. I’ve heard it many times before. Usually screaming through my clubhouse.

“Yeah, It’s me. I’ve got company.”

“Who is it?” Jayne asks as she walks out of the bathroom.

She’s skinnier than I remember. Her blonde hair not as shiny, even her eyes are a little bigger in her face than I remembered.

What I do remember is the flaming fury in her gaze. The last time I saw it was when I demanded she leave Spike alone and never talk to him again.

As far as I knew she did exactly what I asked. That doesn’t mean she liked it.

“You...” She snarles at me and takes a menacing step in my direction.

“Stop the shit. You know you’re not going to do anything to me. You know you’re not supposed to be here, Jayne. I thought I made myself clear.”

“When the fuck did you become president of the whole world. I’m not at the clubhouse.”

“No, but you’re close enough that Spike would be able to find you. What’s the point of ghosting him and then coming back around.”

She rolls her eyes and turns her body so she doesn’t have to look at me anymore. “I don’t have to get your permission.”

“You better fucking believe you do. If it has something to do with my club or my men, my permission is the first and most important thing you need. Now answer my fucking questions before I throw your ass on the next train out of town.”

“I can’t...”

“Bullshit! You can fucking answer me!” I grit through clenched teeth.

“No! I can’t. I need Spike. I need you guys. They’re going to kill me. I need help. I’ve got nowhere else to go.”

Her face is still positioned away from me but I can see the solo tear streaming down her face.

I don’t know what kind of shit she’s gotten herself into but I can’t send her to fight it on her own. I can only hope that I can keep her hidden enough that Spike won’t find her.
