The love island
I'm doing it!
I'm diving from an airplane and now I'm halfway through successfully skydiving.
And yes—I'm still alive and am not dead from horror.
I was freefalling through the clouds, harnessed with Lucas as we zipped through every layer that brought us closer and closer to the surface.
The rays from the sun above us mirrored over the surface of the water, making the deep blue of the sea glisten and sparkle.
All I could hear was the air whooshing through my ears and the chill of rushing breeze slapping violently against my skin, my vision was blurry and I felt dizzy from the adrenaline pumping through my veins.
Everything was going so fast like I was on a bullet train approaching a dead end with no power to control or stop it.
It would have been enough to freak me out if the warmth of Lucas's body pressed against mine was not offering me more than enough comfort.
Lucas's thick voice boomed through my ears and I was able to make out the word, ".
..ready?" before he was cut off by the air carrying his words away.
I had not the slightest idea what I was getting ready for since I did not know the first thing about skydiving.
I shook my head anyway, choosing the part of me that had implicit trust in his than the terror I was strongly preventing from taking over me.
I got a good idea of just what I would be getting ready for as Rebecca and her companion fell out of sight, replaced by the red parachute.
A quick jerk behind me drew both my attention away from them and a terrified gasp from me.
Our parachute burst open, bring our freefall to a halt we floated smoothly in the wind.
Gone was the fear and trepidation. it was quickly replaced by adventure and the need to explore as we rocked gently in tandem with the much friendly wind.
As we got closer, I could recognize an image of a shadowy figure in the middle of the vast sea.
It was vague, but I could make out that it was heart-shaped.
I twisted my head to meet Lucas's face but was met with a confusing yet charming grin. I had a good idea he knew what I was about to ask, but I asked anyway. "What is that?"
His shoulders rose the universal language for I don't know, but the expression on his face betrayed that lie.
I tilted my head back just in time to get a much clearer view of the heart-shaped sandy beach, rimmed by a flush of green surrounding it.
"Is that what I think it is?" I gasped, twisting my head to face him again.
"It is,"
I had to be dreaming because there was no way I was seeing an island right in the middle of the Atlantic sea and even better, shaped in a heart. "We're going to an island?!" I could not hold back my scream.
Lucas yelled, "It's a love island actually." before I could articulate my excitement, he added, "We're landing now, raise your legs!"
I did as Lucas said, pushing my limbs higher as we inched closer and closer until we were gliding over the smooth sand.
I wanted to scream and make a punch in the air as we came to a halt, but my brain was still in a fuzzy mess from all of that adrenaline rushing through me.
This was the most fun I had had in a while without the kids.
Don't get me wrong, that part about jumping from the plane might never really sit well with me but everything apart from that I wanted to do again and again and again.
My body felt limp as a noodle and my legs buckled as Rebbecca unclipped me from Lucas, but Lucas had his arms around me before they could give out. He scooped me off my feet and buried me in a long hug, yelling how proud he was of me.
I was proud of myself too, it was still hard to believe I just did that.
His face quickly morphed into worry as he put back on my feet. "Oh my God, you hate it," he said, more in concern than annoyance, "Fuck you hate me now,"
It took a second to realize that he was mistaking the shock on my face to be disapproval. I blinked a few times, shaking my head as if trying to wipe the thought away before jumping right back into his arms.
"Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" My voice was probably a scream but I did not care, not when I had just had the best experience ever.
"You don't hate me?" he sounded confused.
"How could I ever hate you, that was awesome. I can't believe you made me skydive and I'm saying that but it's the truth. Oh, I love you so fucking much!"
With a grin, he pressed his lips into mine, "I fucking love you too."
"Ah, the boat has arrived!" Rebecca's partner spoke, breaking us from our kissing trance.
We broke the kiss and turned in the direction of the large white boat approaching. "A boat?"
Lucas dropped an arm on my shoulder, pulling me into him. "For our stuff and for Rebbeca and her team to go back."
"They're leaving?"
"Yes Miss," Rebecca spoke, nodding lightly. "It was a pleasure working with you today, but I'm afraid we have to go back to shore."
"Thank you for your help today," I said, returning her smile.
Our luggage along with a few supplies was carried into what I presumed to be our living space for the next two nights, we said our goodbyes and thank yous to Rebecca and her team. Lucas and I stood next to each other watching as the boat reeled further and further away.
I looked around at the vast space surrounding us.
Lucas was right. It was all water, trees, grass, a lot of white sand, and the clear blue sky.
Nothing and no one else to disturb or distract us for the next few days.
It was just me and him and our love for the next few days and the thought made me grin from ear to ear.
"I take it you like your surprise," Lucas said drawing my attention to his face.
"I don't like it..." I whispered. "It's too beautiful to just like it. I love it."
"Well, I'm glad you think so. And if this island is half as much as it was when I was a kid, then I assure you'd love it even more."
"You came here as a kid?" I tilted my head to look at him, surprised.
"Family-owned," he reminded me.
"So you grew up here?"
"Not exactly. My siblings and I spent a lot of family vacations here," he explained.
I nodded in understanding, "A home away from home then."
He gave a light chuckle that made me wonder why he was amused but then he said, "You're my home away from home Christine."
A blush crept up my cheeks and I looked away back at the clear blue sea in front of us. The crystal clear water at the shoreline swept back and forth in tandem with the waves. "It's so beautiful out here."
"It is. Everything is still the same save for the few renovations I had done here for our stay."
"By renovation do you mean having it in a heart shape?" I gave a teasing smile.
His lip curled in a smirk, "a little more than that." he grabbed my hand and pulled me in the direction of the front entrance. I followed wordlessly, as he led us further down to the small beach house that sat in between two large rocks.
The flowers and grasses creeping up the walls through the high flight of rock stairs leading up to the front door made it look a little more like something out of a magical fairytale and I never wanted this fairytale to end.
Lucas stepped to the side to let me inside the living space, following behind and shutting the large wooden door.
The rusty cottage was not exactly how I imagined it would be from looking on the outside.
It was a large space but felt cozy and modern at the same time.
The sitting area was made of a set of overstuffed sofa with three ottomans surrounding it.
A simple wooden table sat in front of the chairs, holding a few books and magazines and a pair of glasses.
I picked the glasses up, smiling as I inspected them carefully. I had no doubt it was Lucas's and a giggle broke out as I imagined him in it.
"I left these here the last time I came by." his voice was warm and smooth on my back.
"You wear glasses?"I turned to ask.
"Rarely, but I have my day when I want to feel like a science freak." he grinned.
"I almost forget that you are a nerd," I said, putting it back on the table.
"Just a nerd?" he cocked an amused brow.
"Well," I spun on my heels and cupped his cheeks, making him lean into me until our lips were almost brushing "my sexy, handsome, hot as sin, nerdy boyfriend."
He dropped an arm on my hips and pressed a small chaste kiss on my lips that made me mewl. "I want to hear all about this boyfriend of yours right after I make us something to eat."
I must have heard wrong. "You're going to make us lunch?"
"Well there's supposed to be a chef and a few other staff on the island with us but, I sent them away." he shrugged.
I was a little surprised seeing as Lucas had always needed the help around especially with cooking. It was not me being critical of him but it felt weird that he would send the staff away. "Why?"
He mouthed a drawn-out. "Re-no-va-tions." and then added, "I was not joking when I said it's just you and I here."
"I cannot say I'm complaining."
"Good," he said, lifting me off the ground.
The kitchen was a small space on the deck protected by a shed.
It had a table, two chairs, and a counter long enough to host a single countertop stove and some extra space.
A muffled giggle escaped my lips from where I buried my face in his chest as he dropped me on the countertop.
He coaxed my legs apart and stepped between them, brushing some loose locs off my face. "For the next few days, it's just you, me, and all I plan to do to you."
A shiver coursed through my body that had nothing to do with the wind on the island and I was sure Lucas too had a good idea the effect his words had on me, but he did not show it—yet.
Moving to the other side of the counter, he pulled a drawer out and held up some essentials for cooking. "Now I cannot promise my cooking will be a good as yours or the chef, but I can promise an edible meal."
I giggled girlishly, "I'll have anything you make Lucas."
His mouth tilted into a small smile, "Now tell me what you'd like me to cook first."
