Chapter Thirty-Nine
Reaper
A fter waiting a bit longer at the hospital, we were finally able to see Lily.
As we walk into the room, Charlotte nearly bursts into tears when she sees her friend lying in the bed. Lily smiles when she sees her.
“Charly.”
Charlotte rushes toward her. “I’m so happy you're all right! How are you feeling?”
“Like I got run over by a bulldozer.”
“I’m so sorry this happened to you, Lil. I was so worried I lost you. I would have never forgiven myself. This is all my fault.”
“Charly, I’d take more than a knife to the belly for you any day. I’m just glad you're okay too.” She smiles and presses a kiss on Lily's forehead.
“Is there anything I can get you?”
“I’m actually craving chocolate.”
“Ok. I’ll go check out what they have at the vending machine. I’ll be right back!”
As Charlotte walks by me, she squeezes my hand and my eyes stay fixed on her as she walks out of the room and disappears around a corner.
“Hey.” Lily’s voice breaks my trance and I look over to her. “You're him.” I nod and take a seat. “It’s nice to finally meet you. I’ve been wanting to thank you for helping Charlotte. It’s been far too long since I've seen her happy. You gave her her light back.”
“I wish I could take the credit for that but Charlotte was the one to reclaim her light.”
She smiles at that.
“You make her happy though.”
“I'm glad I do. She deserves the world.”
“I'm happy you two made up. You seem like the perfect match.”
She has no idea how truly perfect we are for each other.
Charlotte’s savageness matches my brutality.
“Yea, I was an idiot. I’m never letting her go.”
“Good.” There’s a pause and then she continues, “Ya know, I heard you.”
“You heard me?” I question, confused.
“When you found me in my condo. I could hear you. Honestly, I wanted to give up. I wanted to give in to the darkness pulling me down. I was so exhausted. But your voice, your words, they helped me. They made me want to fight. To be as brave and strong as you and Charlotte.”
I clench my jaw to hold back the emotions flooding to the surface. I offer her a small smile .
“Ok, so I just got every chocolate option. You can pick,” Charlotte says as she enters the room holding various candies. She looks at Lily, then at me. “Did I just interrupt something?”
“I was just telling your boyfriend that I'll kick his ass if he breaks your heart.”
I chuckle, pulling Charlotte toward me and kissing her cheek.
Charlotte
A familiar golden-haired man rushes in.
Nate.
“Lily! God, I’m so glad you're okay. I've been waiting here since last night.” Nate beelines to her side, grabbing her hand in his. “I was so worried, baby.”
“I’m okay. I’m okay. Nothing a little Band-Aid and wine can't fix.”
He frowns at her, then kisses her forehead. “I love you.”
“I love you too.”
He finally directs his attention to us.
“Hi, Nate. Long time, no see.” I smile.
“Hey. Yea, it’s been a while.”
“This is my boyfriend, Logan. He was the one to find Lily and call for help.”
Nate steps over to him and holds out his hand. Reaper stands and gives him a firm shake.
“Thank you. If it weren't for you…”
“She’s okay, that’s all that matters.”
Nate nods and joins Lily’s side.
He hugs her head, and I smile. Then I look over to Reaper… Logan and grin once more for I got myself a good one too.
“We’ll let you two have some time together. Call me later, Lil. I love you.”
“Love you, bye, guys.”
