Moments earlier…
I watch the wedding crasher vanish into the elevator. As I approach, a tall security guard steps in my way. “Sir, I regret, but—”
I don’t let him finish. I quietly flash my card and sweat beads instantly on his forehead.
“I’m so sorry, Sir! I didn't recognize you! Please. Welcome."
He immediately steps aside and gives a slight bow. I decide to ignore his faux pas and walk through security to the elevators and finally relax. I press the button and study my card before putting it away. It's only issued to family members and gleams golden.
Perhaps I should have shown my face at company events once or twice so people would recognize my face, or at least my name.
The elevator doors open, and I push the button to the top floor.
As the doors close, I lean against the wall, take a deep breath, and consider what to do with this woman.
If she works here, I could easily have her fired, or fire her myself.
But she could sue, and that would only damage our reputation.
I text Marc: "Got her."
When I arrive upstairs, secretaries cross my path, their stares obvious.
They're already undressing me with their eyes.
Then I see that woman again. She's leaving a room and walking down the hallway, balancing something.
I follow casually and shortly after I reach the room she's in.
She's carefully arranging things and doesn't notice me at first. Then she turns around and our eyes meet.
Her shock when she sees me is priceless. No, she didn’t expect me here. Especially not after she told security to throw me out. She has no clue who I really am. Which makes this all the more entertaining.
As she rushes out after our exchange, I smile to myself. Oh yes... I am very excited to make her life hell for as long as she works here.
I sink into an armchair, pop a salmon canapé into my mouth, and check my phone. Marc has replied: "Who is she? What's her name?"
"All in good time," I answer mysteriously.
After all, my next steps should be carefully considered.
