Chapter 4 I Walked Out

I went straight back to the bedroom and started packing. Everything in this home was bought by me.

Gu Qunian's family was not well off. I felt for him, so I rented this place myself, and I paid the rent every month.

I did not have much to take. My papers were enough.

The rest, I could buy new.

Outside, I heard Gu Qunian go into the kitchen. He seemed about to open the fridge for a bottle of water, then he stopped. I figured he had seen the cake in the trash.

It seemed he suddenly remembered the 99+ messages and calls on his phone.

At the dinner, he had seemed annoyed by them, so he never replied.

I had a feeling he knew who those messages were from, and that answering or not was the same to him.

A small guilt seemed to rise in Gu Qunian then.

It seemed to hit him that today was my birthday.

He paused. Then he came to the bedroom door and knocked.

"Liao Xing, I'm sorry. I didn't know today was your birthday."

The door was not shut. He gave it a light push, and it opened.

I kept my head down. "You didn't know? I reminded you so many times. You never cared at all."

"Leave it like this. Goodbye."

When he saw me packing, what little guilt Gu Qunian had seemed to disappear completely.

He watched me with a cold face and listed my faults.

"You always love getting angry like this. You always make a scene. Liao Xing, with a temper like yours, no one can stand you."

"You don't have a young master's life, but you caught a young master's sickness. I won't spoil you anymore."

"If you fixed your temper, you wouldn't be this stiff with your family, and your parents wouldn't fail to love you."

I had not expected Gu Qunian to stick a knife in me even now.

Even if my parents did not love me enough, they had never said anything this heavy to me.

"Endure, my ass. I'll do whatever I want."

"I'm a real young master. I suffered with you for so long. I won't serve you anymore!"

While I was with Gu Qunian, I never deliberately hid who I was. He never found out either.

The Liao Family was rich, but very low-key.

Gu Qunian's family was not well off. I used cheap things with him and bought discounted goods at the supermarket, so he would not keep saying I wasted money and did not know how to live.

But the gifts I gave him every year were not cheap. He did not know those big brands, and he never saw through them.

As far as I could tell, he always took me for a love-starved kid from an ordinary family.

I used to think that only made his feelings look real. After all, he would not get close to me for the Liao Family.

But now I felt ridiculous.

At the start, I could not get used to this cheap Rental Apartment. Rashes kept breaking out on me, and it took a lot of medicine before I got better. I lived with him for a year and forced myself to get used to it.

For him, I even went and learned to cook. It took a month before I barely learned a little, and on ordinary days I still went to the supermarket myself for discounted vegetables.

Back at the Liao Family, I had never even entered the kitchen.

Gu Qunian followed behind me and would not let it go. "Even if you regret it later, I won't let you come back. I'll end the lease next month."

"Do what you want."

I had no reluctance left. I took my bag and left.
