Chapter 6 His Room in the Morning
I slapped Fu Jiye's hand away, hard.
Then I frowned and glared at him a few times.
"Get lost. Don't take advantage of me."
I had known Fu Jiye for so many years. Every time we met, we argued.
His mouth was especially vicious. Saying this all of a sudden, I was sure he meant no good.
Since he was small, Fu Jiye had been the other family's kid in my parents' mouths. He competed with me over everything.
I got compared with him plenty of times.
"Look at Fu Jiye. His grades are good, and he knows how to behave. Then look at you..."
My parents loved using him as the example.
"His parents love him. What about you? Why don't you compare yourselves with them?"
Unlike Fu Jiye, his parents were very good to me. They raised me like half a son.
Whenever my parents were not home, they brought me over to the Fu Family.
When I fought with Fu Jiye, they did not blindly stand on his side either.
So for his parents' sake, I was willing to put up with playing with Fu Jiye.
Fu Jiye curled his mouth, looking unhappy. "I'm serious."
Fu Jiye still had half a year before his life studying in the US was supposed to end. I figured he had thought I would keep playing around, and had not expected me to fall flat over Gu Qunian.
He rushed back at once. I had a feeling that if I had really given my heart away, it would have been over for him.
I did not dare take those words of Fu Jiye's as real.
I was only afraid that if I agreed one second, the next second he would say, "Liao Xing, you lost again, hahaha. This is only a game."
These tricks were leftovers from games I had played myself. How could I fail to understand?
I was drunk the whole night.
When I woke again, my head did not hurt as much as I had imagined, and my clothes had been changed into comfortable pajamas.
I stared blankly for a while before I recognized this as Fu Jiye's room.
He had actually brought me back to his apartment.
He had not dumped me on the street. A miracle.
Fu Jiye pushed the door open and came in.
"You're awake. Does your head still hurt? Drink some warm water first."
I took the cup and finished it in one go.
Only then did it hit me.
"Fu Jiye, why am I at your place?"
I had stayed here many times before, but after Fu Jiye went abroad, I had not come again.
And the pajamas on me. Had Fu Jiye changed them for me?
Would he be that kind?
Fear sent me scrambling up to check my body.
I breathed out. I was whole. Every part was still there.
Fu Jiye laughed at what I was doing.
It seemed one look was enough for him to guess what I was thinking.
"Relax. I'm not short of money."
"Last night someone was drunk as a little pig. I couldn't wake you no matter how I called, so I had to drag you back first."
I glared at him, vicious. "You looking to die?"
Fu Jiye raised both hands at once, his face sincere. "I was wrong."
