Chapter Twenty-Eight #2

Theo’s cheeks turned red, and I loved that even after all our months together he still blushed when I mentioned sex.

“Uh, Tony? Would you mind closing tonight? I have to help Jaxon with something.”

“Not a problem. And you two have fun.”

He winked, and I snickered. “We plan to.”

Once we entered the house, I took Theo’s hand and walked him into the living room and up to the fireplace.

“I miss nights curled up with you here,” Theo confessed. “It’s like we’re the only two people in the world.”

“I’m sorry.” Was I asking too much of him? “After this election, regardless of the outcome, let’s do a weekend away. We’ll go somewhere, lock the doors, and make love all day and night.”

As I spoke, I unbuttoned Theo’s shirt and took it off, exposing his freckled shoulders. I couldn’t resist his warm skin. He tasted like the sunlight.

I reached for his pants and undid the zipper just as he slipped my suit jacket off and removed my tie and shirt while I rid myself of everything else.

Naked together, we sank to the furry rug, our mouths locked in a passionate kiss.

Theo’s tongue swept through my mouth, demanding yet sweet, and I sucked it like honey from the comb.

I coated my fingers with his precome and pushed them into his ass.

Theo’s moans rose in the quiet as he rode my hand while I licked and bit his rosy nipples.

Seeing Theo come undone—sweaty, mouth open, and gasping for air while the hot scent of our lust rose thick in the air—drove me wild.

“Now. Here,” I rasped and grabbed the lube and condom from the table, rolled it on and slicked my aching shaft. I watched as he lowered himself on me.

“Oh, God.” Theo gripped my shoulders as he rode me hard and fast. “More, please. Harder…oh, yeah.”

Only I got to see this side of Theo, where he took control. I loved every second of it and held his hips as he writhed and took his pleasure. I drove up into him, and he rubbed his dick as our pace increased until, with a harsh cry, he threw his head back and came over his chest and belly.

Theo’s pleasure became mine, and I thrust deeper.

“Fuck…oh, fuck me,” I choked and clamped my hands on his ass, holding him in place as my climax hit me like a lightning strike. I throbbed inside his tight grip, and we held each other, waiting for the storm to end. I kissed his cheek.

“You are the best thing that’s ever happened to me. Thank you for saying yes to my silly idea. I couldn’t imagine doing this alone.”

“Not so silly anymore.” He snuggled in my arms. “You’ll never be alone again.”

“What if I lose?” I asked, hating that I sounded so unsure. Like I was a kid in school with all the cool kids laughing at me because I didn’t belong.

“You’ll still be the best damn DA in the state.”

“With the best damn boyfriend.”

“All true.” Theo kissed me. “But you’re not going to lose.”

“Polls close in five minutes,” Blair announced, and the tension at Sweeny’s—where I’d insisted on holding the watch party—ratcheted up. All our friends were here, along with my staff, so we were surrounded by the best group of people in the world.

“No matter what happens, I wouldn’t trade the past months for anything. Not only do I appreciate the friends who’ve stood by my side, but I could never have accomplished this without the man I fell in love with.” I held Theo close.

“I love you,” he whispered.

“All right, everyone,” Blair called out. “Polls are closed. Results are due any second.”

At that, Tony cranked up the sound on the television, and we all turned to watch.

“The polls have just closed, and we have our predictions.” I held my breath, and Theo squeezed my arm tight. “In the hotly contested race for Supreme Court Judge, Channel 14 predicts that District Attorney Jaxon Polaris has defeated District Attorney George Winston.”

Sweeny’s erupted with cheers and whistles. Theo flung his arms around me, and I clung to him. Even with the results up on the screen, I couldn’t believe it. Me. The kid from Nowheresville was going to be a judge.

“I can’t believe it,” I said to Theo, while people came up to congratulate me.

“I love you,” he said in his quiet way that I heard above the fray. “And I’m so proud of you.”

“I couldn’t have done it without you.”

His eyes twinkled. “I know. I’m the best fake boyfriend ever.”

“Baby, you are as real as it gets.”

As the night wore on, and the results became official, I received a call from George.

“I guess congratulations are in order.”

I pressed my lips together. I knew how those words must burn in his gut.

“I guess I’ll say thank you, then.” The call went dead, and I turned to Theo with a grin. “Well, that was awkward.”

“Was he mean?” Theo gazed at me anxiously.

I laughed and placed a kiss on his nose. “No. Not at all. But he’s not a happy camper for sure.”

“Shh,” Tony called out. “Winston is conceding.” He turned up the volume on the television even more.

“It seems the people have spoken. I’m sure we’ll all be watching Mr. Polaris’s decisions from the bench. God bless the people of the State of New York.”

“If that wasn’t the worst concession speech I’ve ever heard…” Jet said as he shook his head.

After our face-off in the bar, Jet had come to me and apologized for his behavior.

“I might’ve been overcompensating for ignoring Theo’s existence while we were growing up. But I see now he doesn’t need my help or anyone else’s. I’m sorry I acted like a dick. I can see how much you care for Theo and that’s all that matters. I hope I didn’t ruin our friendship.”

“We all need help, sometimes,” I said, shaking his hand. “But we need real friends more.”

With all the news channels crowding around me, shoving their microphones in my face, it was time for my acceptance speech.

“The people of this great state have spoken, and I am honored and humbled to have been chosen to represent them on the bench. I promise to be fair and follow the law, but as I stated in my campaign, while the law is a living, breathing animal, and we must change with the times, it will never be to the detriment of people’s basic rights. ”

I paused, my eyes burning with so many emotions. As far as I’d come, sometimes I still felt like that little boy hiding under the covers, yearning for acceptance. I beckoned Theo, who’d taken a few steps backward. His eyes widened, but he moved to stand by my side.

“I couldn’t have accomplished this without the love and support of my partner in life, Theo Sweeny.

” I took his hands in mine. “Thank you for your trust and love. I reached for the stars and found the universe in you. From the beginning, you believed in me and stood by my side. I hope soon you’ll stand by my side again as we say ‘I do.’ ”

The crowd exploded when I leaned in and kissed him.
