Chapter Five
S lade...Present Day
“Yo, what’s up, King?”
I looked away from the window and saw my best friend, Elijah, coming up beside me. I tossed him the pack of cigarettes and turned my gaze back to the window. She was up there, waiting like she always did.
She was waiting for me, hoping I would come back and stand beside her. Fucking bitch. I wanted to ruin her. To wrap my hands around her porcelain neck and watch the life drain from her eyes. She tormented me day in and day out, and I was fucking sick of it. I had no loyalty to her, not anymore. Not since that day.
“Dude, when are we going to move in? I’m getting tired of waiting around like a fucking canary.”
I shook my head. “Patience.”
“The guys are getting tired of being patient. The shit you promised them is making them jizz their pants.” He cackled, making me release a deep laugh.
I turned away from the window and cracked my neck. “He’s upped the security around the estate and from the looks of it, it’s almost impossible to breach. I’m good, but I’m not that fucking good.”
Elijah scoffed. “What the fuck are you talking about? You made escaping from prison look like a piece of cake!”
“That’s because the hardass son of a bitch killed anyone who threatened to get in his way!” Dexter came up beside us, putting in his two cents. I hated the prick and couldn’t figure out why I let him tag along.
“Yeah dude, you strike fear in anyone who speaks your name. Hell, if I wasn’t your best friend, I’d be running like a chicken with my head cut off!”
My hands curled into fists. The motherfucker was about to get punched in the jaw if he didn’t shut the fuck up. Dexter and Elijah continued to crack jokes at my expense. My molars ground together as I turned away from them and headed toward the bike. I was done waiting and I wasn’t in the mood to listen to their fucking commentary.
“Who the fuck is that?” I stiffened when Elijah’s voice wavered with unease.
I turned around and walked back over to where they stood, hidden in the woods, away from sight. We could see security everywhere, but they couldn’t see us. We had a perfect view of her window and the gravel pathway that led up to the estate. There was a black limo that had just pulled up.
Dear old Lars walked out of the front door with a huge grin on his face. One I hadn’t seen in a long time. The limo driver removed himself from the car and walked around to open the door. The driver bowed as a man stepped out and made his way up to the King. The man took a bow, but Lars placed his hand on the man’s shoulder and brought him in for a hug.
Interesting.
The two broke apart, and Lars proceeded to show the man the grounds of the estate. They continued to walk our way, not knowing that we lurked behind the trees, listening to their entire conversation.
“And this over here is where we go hunting,” Lars said as he looked over the grounds in awe.
“Oh, shit...” Dexter muttered under his breath.
I glanced at him, and he nodded over to the front door. The hairs on the back of my neck stood up as Raven walked out in a crimson, long-sleeved shirt, black fuck me boots and a pair of jeans. Her hips swayed as she came our way. Her face was morphed into her signature bitch face, and it looked as if she didn’t give a damn who saw her this way. Queen or not.
“Goddamn,” Elijah whistled. I smacked him upside the head. “Hey! What the fuck was that for?”
“Shut the fuck up.” I said as I moved closer to the edge of the woods. I knew why he was looking, but I didn’t like it. Not one bit. I may have had my plans for ruining her, but that didn’t fucking mean I wanted them ogling her.
“Alright, I’m here. What's the big emergency?” She stopped when she was only inches in front of them.
Lars took one glance and shook his head. “I told you we had company today, and this is how you dress?”
Raven shrugged and crossed her arms. “Why is it necessary for me to be here? I have shit to do.”
Exasperated, he rubbed a hand over his face. “Raven-”
The man took a step forward, his gaze never moving from hers. The way he looked at her made my skin crawl. I didn’t like it and that bugged me. I shouldn’t give a damn what the hell happened to her.
He raised his hand out for her to shake. She looked at it skeptically. “I’m Zeke.”
She popped her gum and carefully placed her hand in his. She dropped it quickly, as if she’d been burned. She removed her gaze from his and turned back to her father and raised a brow. “Why is he here?”
A sinister smile came on his face. “Zeke is here because his kingdom was recently destroyed and he needs somewhere else to live.”
“Oh, fuck...” Elijah said.
Oh, fuck was right. My chest constricted.
Raven’s violet eyes widened briefly, but she kept her composure. “Why the fuck does that matter?”
“Zeke previously lost his Queen, and is looking for a new one.”
Raven took a step back and shook her head. “No,” she whispered.
“That’s right. Meet your new fiancé, soon to be King of Amenida.”
And those few little words ruined everything. Son of a bitch.
