Date Night In

Plan B started off much more successfully. Vaughn woke up early and kissed his way down Sam’s back. He could never get enough of his mate, but there was something about Sam like this he especially loved. Sleepy and warm, so responsive, even as he came awake under Vaughn’s touch.

“Mmm. Whatcha doin?”

“Making love to my mate,” Vaughn whispered in reply.

“Nice,” Sam said. “Keep up the good work.”

Vaughn grinned and kissed his way back up. Sam turned his head and their lips met in a sweet kiss.

“Kids still asleep?” Sam asked as he rolled over and began running his hands down Vaughn’s chest. He paused at the waistband of Vaughn’s boxers and waited for an answer.

Vaughn tipped his head to the side and focused. “Yep. We better be quick, though.”

“You just want to get to the good parts.”

Vaughn grinned and nipped his favorite spot on Sam’s neck. “They’re all good parts.”

“You’ve got one part I’m particularly fond of,” Sam said as he arched his neck a bit further.

“Yeah, which one is that?”

Sam huffed instead of responding and reached blindly for the bedside table.

Vaughn couldn’t help but grin as he pushed away and opened the drawer.

He grabbed their lube and opened the top as Sam wiggled his way out of his boxers.

They’d learned over the past few months that they had to be fast. When they wanted slow, they had to let the kids have a sleepover with Vaughn’s parents.

Sam was too traumatized at the idea of them hearing him otherwise.

Vaughn slipped his fingers between Sam’s legs and traced his hole carefully.

He still couldn’t believe how perfect Sam was for him.

They fit together like they were made for each other.

He slid one finger inside and Sam grabbed his other hand, squeezing it tight.

He’d bit his lip to keep from making his sweet noises.

Vaughn pushed another finger inside and stretched him out.

“Hurry,” Sam whispered.

“Shh. We’ve got time.”

Damn. He shouldn’t have said that. He tipped his head to the side once more but didn’t hear any rustling from upstairs. He quickly added another finger, though. He’d definitely tempted fate with that remark.

“Come on,” Sam griped.

Vaughn pushed his boxers down and freed his cock. He added another squirt of lube to it, slicking it up as he moved closer and pressed the tip against Sam’s hole. He slid inside and Sam grabbed both of his arms as he leaned forward and braced his hands beside Sam’s head.

“Fuck. I love it when you do that.”

“I love it when you let me.”

Sam grinned even as Vaughn pushed forward and seated himself fully inside his mate’s body. He lowered himself to his elbows, allowing them to be pressed together. Sam wrapped his legs around Vaughn’s hips and breathed as his body welcomed the intrusion.

“I love you,” Sam groaned. He arched his head to the side again as Vaughn began thrusting. Vaughn buried his face in Sam’s neck, his mouth unerringly finding the spot where he’d marked Sam as his. The scar was tiny, barely there, but Vaughn could always find it. It was his spot and his alone.

He pounded into Sam, and his mate began to make little sounds of pleasure.

He’d learned how to push Sam over the edge fast. He adjusted his position, and Sam squeezed his legs as he pegged his gland.

He reached between them for Sam’s cock and squeezed, stroking it hard and fast to match the rhythm of his hips.

It didn’t take long for Sam to cover his mouth with his hand, muffling the cries of pleasure he made as he came. Vaughn followed soon after, never able to resist the pleasure of his mate’s body spasming around his, milking him dry. He collapsed onto Sam, both of them heaving for breath.

“I love you, too,” Vaughn mumbled into Sam’s neck. He kissed the spot once more. “You need to go shower. You’ve got a big day.”

“I want to bask in the afterglow.”

Vaughn grinned and moved to this side. Sam grimaced when his come began to slip out of his body. Their sheets were going to be a mess again. Vaughn curled around Sam and had just gotten comfortable when he heard it. The pitter patter of little feet.

“Incoming,” Vaughn whispered.

Sam rolled to the side and crawled quickly out of bed. He was in the bathroom within seconds, his dirty boxers in his hand. Vaughn grinned and watched him go before getting up and throwing their comforter up and over the messy sheets. The gentle knock on their door sounded a second later.

“Just a sec.” Vaughn grabbed his own boxers and pulled them on before climbing back into bed. “Come in.”

Ollie wandered sleepily to his side but froze when he realized his Papa wasn’t where he was supposed to be.

“Papa?” There was a little wobble to his voice.

“He’s in the bathroom. Listen.”

Vaughn heard the shower water running, and he knew Ollie would, too, once he woke up enough to listen.

Ollie let out a sigh of relief and scampered up onto the bed with him. Vaughn grabbed the little throw they kept at the bottom of the bed with his toes and dragged it up. He wrapped Ollie in it and settled him against his chest.

“I don’t want Papa to go bye-bye today.”

Vaughn nuzzled his head gently. They went through this every time Ollie’s routine was altered. His therapist said it was completely normal, and they just had to reassure him and get him through it. The more times Sam left and came back, the more Ollie would believe he always would.

“Nana said you guys were making special treats today.”

Ollie grumbled a bit.

“She got special sprinkles.”

Ollie stuck his face in Vaughn’s neck. “I like sprinkles.”

“I know you do. Grammy’s coming to spend the morning with you, too.”

“I like Grammy.”

Vaughn grinned. He let Ollie ponder his day for a moment as he listened to Sam in the shower.

He wasn’t in there long as he knew good and well what kind of mood Ollie would be in.

When he came back, still a little damp from the shower, he’d pulled on a pair of pajama pants and a clean T-shirt.

He curled up on the bed beside them and wrapped his arms around Ollie.

“Vaughn, you’re really lumpy today. You should have Pop-pop check that out.”

Ollie giggled and poked his head out. “It’s me, Papa.”

“Ollie! I didn’t see you there. Well, that makes me feel better. I thought Daddy had a big blanket lump on him.”

“Papa, you’re silly. Do you have to go to the homeschool store today?”

“I do.”

Sam was actually attending a seminar on homeschooling a couple hours away.

There were vendors involved. Vaughn knew Sam would come home with a car-load of supplies.

Giving up his full-time job as a teacher hadn’t been their original plan, but when the time came, Sam just hadn’t been able to do go back.

Vaughn had promised him that they’d find a way to make it work, but the kids weren’t ready.

And neither was Sam. They’d found a routine the previous summer, and the kids were thriving.

Sam hadn’t wanted to give it up when fall rolled around and it was time for him to go open up his former classroom.

“I wanna go, too,” Ollie said with a sniff.

“Nope. You’re staying with Nana and Grammy. But remember what I said…”

Ollie lifted his head and gave Sam a look. “Glue and paint.”

“Yep. That was the deal.”

Vaughn couldn’t hide his smile if he tried.

“Okay,” Ollie said. “Nana said we’re making cookies today, and she needs her best stirrer.”

“That’d be you.”

“Yeah. Papa, I’m hungry.”

“Okay. Let’s go get a snack. Nana should be here soon. She’s making waffles.”

“Mmmm.”

Ollie waited for Sam to climb out of bed and lift him up. Sam gave Vaughn a smile that had him grinning in return. Goddess, he loved his life.

Their morning routine went off without a hitch, and Sam left with only a few tears from the kids. Nana and Grammy saved the day, as always, and Vaughn managed to get out of the house himself.

He made a quick trip to the local flower shop and returned home with two dozen perfect, long-stemmed, red roses and a bundle of helium balloons shaped like hearts. He hid them away in their bedroom and was out the door again in time to see his first patient.

Instead of going out with Sam, he’d planned a romantic night in. He’d get the kids over to his parents with a movie and pizza marathon. They’d have fun. He’d have a nice dinner with flowers and balloons. Sam loved the romantic gestures, even though he pretended like he didn’t.

He’d end the night with a proposal, down on one knee and everything, and then they’d go get their kids and tell them the big news. It was perfect. He couldn’t wait.

Vaughn only had another half hour or so at the clinic before he needed to head home and get started on dinner.

He was reading a really interesting article on the benefits of a raw food diet, particularly for small dogs.

He had a couple patients who might benefit from such a radical diet change, and fortunately, those patients had owners who were more than willing to put up with the extra fuss it required.

“Alpha Jerrick!”

Teague, the hellhound assigned to guard the kids that day, burst into the office, his eyes wide.

“Shit. What’s wrong?”

Teague’s mouth opened and closed, and he gaped like a fish. “Nothing’s… no one’s hurt.”

Vaughn rounded the corner and took off at a run. He stopped in the backyard of his house.

“Daddy!”

Ollie came running and jumped at him. His eyes were filled with tears. The remains of his perfect, two dozen, long-stem, red roses were scattered across the yard. His cheerful and silly heart-shaped balloons were tangled near the top of the big oak the kids liked to climb.

“It’s okay, pup. I’m here.”

Ollie looked up at him with wet eyes. “I tried to do up, Daddy. It didn’t work.”

Up…He’d tried to let the balloons pick him up like in the movie. Vaughn winced and petted Ollie’s back. “It’s okay, little man.”

“I dropped the balloons, Daddy. I’m sorry.”
