Chapter 4 #2

Blood wells, hot and coppery. The sting is exquisite.

The Veil magic inside me surges forward, dark and eager, wrapping around the wound like a lover’s mouth.

It doesn’t heal it. It savors it—turning pain into pleasure, violence into devotion.

Shadows bloom across my skin in inky patterns, mirroring the places his tails touch, claiming him right back.

Raiden growls—deep, triumphant—and licks the blood away with one long, rough stroke of his tongue.

The bond ignites.

Heat floods me, liquid fire racing through every nerve. Desire crashes over me in waves until I can’t tell where I end and he begins. My body arches into him, needy, aching, ready.

Mine, he snarls in my head again, but this time it’s reverent, broken. My mate. My heart. My everything.

One tail slides up my spine, pressing me harder against his chest. His muzzle moves to my ear, fangs grazing the shell.

Let me take you.

I tilt my head back, exposing my throat fully to him.

“Yes,” I breathe.

The word is barely out before he moves. His body seems to shift ever so slightly, his paws becoming hands with claws tipping his fingers, and his back legs becoming mostly human.

He scoops me up, cradling me against his furred chest as he stalks toward the shattered remains of the bed. His tails never release me.

He lays me down on the broken mattress as though I’m something precious and breakable, even as his eyes burn with feral hunger.

Somewhere distant in my peripheral, I sense Dorian slowly inching toward the door, before slipping out and closing it softly behind him.

Raiden looms over me, his massive form casting a shadow that dances with the faint glow of his tails. The bond between us is a living flame now, scorching away any hesitation, any doubt. His claws—long, black, razor-sharp—hover above my chest for a heartbeat, then descend.

Need to see you. All of you.

The words echo in my mind as he slices downward in one swift, controlled motion.

The fabric of my shirt parts like butter under his talons, cool air kissing my newly exposed skin.

He doesn’t stop there. Another drag of his claws shreds my pants, the material falling away in tatters, leaving shallow red lines across my thighs where the tips graze too close.

The sting is electric, sending jolts of heat straight to my core.

Beautiful, he growls telepathically, golden eyes devouring every inch of me. My fierce mate. So strong. So ready.

His hands—still tipped with those deadly claws—settle on my hips, nails pressing in just enough to dimple the flesh without breaking it, yet.

He drags them upward slowly, deliberately, tracing paths along my ribs, over the swell of my breasts, leaving thin, burning trails that bloom pink under his touch.

The Veil magic inside me rises to meet it, shadows weaving through the marks like ink in water, turning pain into a throbbing ache of want.

I arch into his grip, gasping. “Raiden…more.”

The plea bursts from my lips, but it echoes louder in my mind, where he can feel the raw hunger behind it. Mark me deeper. Make me yours.

His chest rumbles with approval—a deep, animalistic purr that vibrates through us both.

He leans down, fangs nipping at my collarbone, then lower, catching the peak of one breast in a sharp, sucking bite that draws a cry from my throat.

Blood beads where his teeth pierce, but the Veil magic laps at it greedily, amplifying the sensation until my vision blurs with pleasure.

Yes, he snarls mentally, one clawed hand sliding between my thighs. Open for me. Let me feel how wet you are for your mate.

His fingers—rough, insistent—part me, a single claw tracing the sensitive folds without mercy.

The danger of it, the edge of risk, makes my hips buck upward.

He presses in, one digit curling deep, then another, stretching me with deliberate slowness.

The burn is exquisite, his claws retracted just enough not to tear, but the pressure builds a fire that has me clawing at his furred shoulders.

“Raiden,” I moan, my voice hoarse. Harder. I need you inside me. All of you.

He withdraws his fingers abruptly, leaving me empty and aching, only to replace them with the hot, thick length of him—human enough in this partial shift to thrust forward in one brutal stroke.

The intrusion is overwhelming, his size filling me to the brink, forcing a strangled gasp from my lungs.

He doesn’t pause and isn’t gentle; his hips snap against mine with feral urgency, each drive pinning me deeper into the mattress.

Take it, he commands in my head, voice a ragged thunder. Take your mate’s cock. Feel how I burn for you.

His tails tighten around us, one coiling around my leg to spread me wider, another pressing against my back to arch me into every thrust. Claws dig into my hips now, breaking skin in shallow punctures that send fresh waves of ecstasy crashing through me.

The Veil embraces it all—shadows blooming across my body, twining with his fire, turning every scrape, every bite into fuel for the bond.

I wrap my legs around his waist, nails raking down his chest, drawing thin lines of blood through his fur. “Yes…gods, yes. Don’t stop.”

Never, he vows mentally, his rhythm turning punishing, hips grinding deep with each plunge. You’re mine to fuck, mine to claim, mine to love. Feel me knotting inside you soon—locking us together until you’re filled with my seed.

The words push me closer to the edge, my body clenching around him.

One of his hands slides up to my throat, claws framing the column without squeezing, just holding—a dominant reminder of his power.

His other hand finds my breast, pinching the nipple hard enough to make stars explode behind my eyes.

I shatter first—pleasure ripping through me in violent spasms, my cries echoing off the ruined walls. The Veil surges with it, shadows exploding outward in dark tendrils that wrap around us both, binding us tighter.

Raiden follows with a roar that shakes the room—mental and physical—his release flooding me hot and endless. I feel the swell at his base, the kitsune knot locking us together, pulsing as he empties himself deep inside.

Mine, he whispers one last time in my mind, the feral edge softening to something tender as he collapses over me. Forever.

Raiden’s knot pulses inside me one final, languid time, locking us together so completely that even the smallest shift sends aftershocks rippling through both of us.

His massive frame settles over mine—not crushing, but enveloping—furred chest pressed to my breasts, clawed hands braced on either side of my head, nine tails draped across us like a living blanket of warm silk and firelight.

The room is quiet now except for our ragged breathing and the soft crackle of dying embers on the scorched walls.

The bond thrums between us—steady, golden, whole in a way it never was before.

Every place his claws broke skin, every bite that drew blood, every thrust that claimed me deeper than words ever could…

the Veil has woven them into something permanent.

Thin, shimmering shadow-veins trace the marks like delicate tattoos, pulsing faintly in time with his heartbeat. They don’t hurt anymore.

Raiden’s muzzle lowers until his forehead rests gently against mine. His golden eyes—still feral at the edges—are softer now, the beast retreating just enough to let the man peek through.

You’re here, he whispers in my mind, voice cracked and reverent. You’re really here.

I lift a trembling hand and cup the side of his muzzle, thumb stroking the soft fur along his jaw. “I’m here,” I whisper back, aloud and through the bond. “I’m not leaving again.”

A shudder rolls through his entire body. One tail curls tighter around my waist; another slips beneath my neck like a pillow, cradling me. He nuzzles into my throat—right over the fresh bite mark—and inhales so deeply I feel it in my own lungs.

I thought I lost you forever. The words come slow, raw, like they’ve been bleeding inside him for weeks.

Every shift hurt. Every breath hurt. I kept imagining your face when the Veil took you—defiant, angry, trusting me.

I thought… I thought my mate was dead, and it was my fault for not being fast enough, strong enough…

for not being there when you needed me most.

Tears sting my eyes. I blink them back, but one escapes anyway, sliding down my temple.

“I’m sorry,” I breathe. “I’m so sorry I left you like that.”

He makes a broken sound—half growl, half sob—and presses closer, as if he can fuse our bodies even more completely.

Don’t apologize. His mental voice cracks. You survived. You came back stronger. You came back to me.

His tongue flicks out, gentle now, lapping away the tear track with a tenderness that makes my chest ache.

You taste like home.

The knot throbs once more—soft, reassuring—and I feel the last of his release settle deep inside me, warm and claiming. My body answers instinctively, inner walls fluttering around him in tiny, helpless contractions that draw a low, pleased rumble from his chest.

I wrap my arms around his neck—or as much of it as I can reach in this form—and bury my face against the thick ruff of fur there.

“I love you,” I say, the words spilling out before I can overthink them. “I’ve loved you since before I even understood what the bond was. And I’m never letting them take you from me again. Not your father, not the Council, not the Veil itself.”

Raiden goes very still.

Then his entire body trembles.

Say it again, he pleads in my mind, voice small in a way I’ve never heard from him. Please.

“I love you, Raiden.” I kiss the fur beneath my lips, then the sensitive spot behind his ear. “I love your fire. I love your protectiveness. I love the way you gave up everything just to stay near me. I love you.”

A broken whine escapes his throat. He curls around me tighter—tails cocooning us, arms banding across my back, muzzle tucked into the crook of my neck like he’s trying to hide there forever.

I love you, he sends back, the words drenched in awe and relief and six weeks of grief finally breaking free.

I’ve loved you since the first time you knocked me on my ass.

I would burn the world down for you. I would burn myself down for you.

And now… now you’re carrying my mark inside and out. You’re carrying me in your soul.

His knot finally begins to soften, but he doesn’t pull away. Instead, he rolls us carefully so I’m draped across his chest, his heartbeat thundering beneath my ear, strong and steady and mine.

One clawed hand strokes down my spine—gentle now, reverent—tracing every shadow-vein he left behind.

You’re glowing, he murmurs in wonder. Your magic is glowing inside you… because of me.

I smile against his fur, exhausted and sated and so full of him I can barely think.

“Good,” I whisper. “Let it glow. Let the whole damn academy see what happens when they try to keep us apart.”

He chuckles—low, rough, the sound vibrating through both of us.

They’ll be terrified.

“Let them be.”

His tails tighten once more, possessive and protective, and he presses a lingering kiss to the top of my head—human lips now, his shift easing further as the bond settles.

Sleep, mate, he whispers in my mind, voice thick with emotion. I’ve got you. I’m never letting go again.

I let my eyes drift closed, the steady rhythm of his heartbeat and the warm cocoon of his tails lulling me under.

The last thing I feel before sleep claims me is the soft brush of his lips against my temple, and the quiet, reverent repetition in my mind:

Mine.

Forever.
