Chapter Fifty-Six Ella

Chapter Fifty-Six

Ella

“Why are the cars not by the door?” Tiero thunders. There’s an edge to his voice I don’t like.

We’ve reached the hospital’s main entrance, ready to leave this place.

Taking the next step outside these walls marks the end of my time in Canada and the beginning of a new adventure.

I have no idea where it will lead me this time.

I turn to glance back at Rhia, Lex, and Claudette. They lean against the wall just inside the doors, watching the entire procession.

Everything is going to work out.

I cling to Claudette’s words, reminding myself that I made my choice, and that I intend to be insanely happy, even if my fiancé is currently brooding beside me.

I lift my hand to wave one last goodbye. Their sad expressions mirror exactly how I feel about leaving them behind.

“Until thirty seconds ago, an ambulance was parked there,” Santino answers. “Do you want the cars brought around?”

Tiero shakes his head and waves him off. His hand settles on my lower back as he guides me forward.

His men are scattered around us, each focused on their assigned task. Most stand guard while a few load the three SUVs parked a short distance away.

Tiero’s gaze keeps sweeping our surroundings. Is there a threat he hasn’t told me about?

“Where is Antonio?” he asks Santino, who’s walking a few steps ahead of us.

“Fixing up our account. He should be back any minute.”

We should leave him behind. I wouldn’t miss him, and I doubt Mariella would either.

Tiero urges us forward, and I glance up at him, taking in the beautiful man beside me. I’ve been doing that ever since he traded his jeans for a tailored suit.

Tiero in dark jeans and a leather jacket is hot as hell. It fits his bad-boy persona perfectly.

But Tiero in a suit?

Hold on to your panties, ladies.

He fills it out with such raw masculinity that it’s hard to look away.

I smile when his gaze meets mine. For a moment, the tension leaves his face and his eyes light up.

It’s like the sun breaking through the clouds.

I relax instantly, especially when he bends down and brushes a kiss to the tip of my nose.

Our fingers lace together, and he lifts our joined hands to his mouth, pressing another soft kiss to my knuckles. That small, intimate gesture makes my outlook on the future brighter.

We love each other. We’re going to have a baby. We’ll be a family.

Any fear or uncertainty about what comes next can get stuffed.

The future is ours.

“Ella!” Claudette suddenly shouts from behind. “Wait!”

Tiero and I both turn toward her.

Just as the sound of a gunshot pierces the air.
