Chapter Thirteen #4

Because puppies made everything better. They cuddled, and they smelled like heaven. Puppy breath was addictive. You couldn’t just have one doggo.

That was lunacy.

When he handed her the phone, her heart melted. On it, there was a video of six adorable gray puppies playing and rolling around.

“Oh, my God. The cuteness.”

Graham smiled.

“So, two?” he asked. “You get to decide. I’m good with all six, to be honest.”

Michael choked on some bacon.

“Six? Gabby wasn’t serious about her getting all of them. That’s crazy! We don’t need six dogs!”

Ethan just kept eating and was amused. Normally, it would be him having the ‘put down the puppy’ talk, but it was nice not to be involved in it.

Why?

They would go home at some point.

This was Michael’s battle. Good luck to him. Elizabeth always got her way when there was a dog involved.

ALWAYS.

This was likely going to end the same way.

“Not so funny now is it, when it’s your shoes, huh?” he asked. “Welcome to my world.”

Elizabeth pointed at the puppies.

“The two fat ones. They are the ones. I want me chonky puppers,” she said.

Gabby stared at her.

“Chonky?”

Elizabeth nodded.

“I said what I said. You’re smart. I’ve seen your personnel file. Want a dog? We can get you one. How about two?”

Graham gasped.

“Finn. Will. Kill. Me. He’s going to say that their house is too small, and then, again, kill me, Mom.”

She laughed.

“Well, I gave them a million dollars. That has to be enough to buy a house. If you need more…”

Gabby stopped her.

“Pause. No. We don’t need more, but yes on the puppy. I’ll take a girl one. I like making Finn feel outnumbered, like when his sisters come around.”

Well, it appeared her mind was made up, and Gabby’s too. It appeared it was going to be gotcha day.

“And you get a puppy, and you get two puppies, and you get heartburn,” he said, pointing from Gabby, to Elizabeth, and then to Ethan.

Graham took the phone and made note of them. They were theirs, and all he had to do was put in the puppy order. It appeared there were going to be puppies to love on, too.

“Then, those two are the ones,” he said, letting her pick because he saw how much joy it brought her. “We’ll make them family. They can have Gabby’s puppy come play with them.”

That sounded so amazing, and peaceful.

Yeah, Elizabeth loved it here.

“What kind are they?” she asked. “They look like little wolves.”

He shared.

“Irish Wolfhounds.”

Now, Ethan started choking.

“Jesus! Those are horses! Those aren’t small dogs! They make our dogs look petite!”

Graham grinned.

“I know. I love me a big dog,” he said. “They are good with kids, animals, and people.”

He shook his head.

It was time to give up.

“It looks like Ravensmire is going to be a busy, busy place,” he admitted.

Again, they would be going home at some point, so why not let Elizabeth have her fun?

“When do we get them?” she asked.

He shared.

“Next week. I’m glad you’re going to still be here. Maybe you can join me to go get them. They have sheep, chickens, and ducks on that farm too,” he said, not mentioning that he was getting them from Finn’s mother.

Just the other day, Finn had told him that anyone adopting those beasts was out of their damn minds.

Oh, someone was going to be spicy when he found out he was one of the ‘someones’.

From where she was, Elizabeth began laughing maniacally.

“Oh, I am really going to have fun on this vacation,” she admitted.

Ethan was glad she was viewing it as that. Already, she was healing. In time, she’d be as good as new.

Then, he had to decide what to do about being Shaman. It was the FBI or be shaman.

He couldn’t be both.

According to the reservation chief.

“I’m glad you’re staying a while,” Michael stated. “I missed seeing that face.”

Yeah, she missed his, too.

Even Gabby was glad.

“I get to have some girl time. We can get mani-pedis, and go shopping. I need a bigger house…”

Yes, yes, they could, and she did.

“I’m going to have to work,” she said, “but I can do my job as Deputy Director from anywhere.”

Ethan chimed in.

“Same. I can profile from anywhere. We have an office. We’re good at multitasking via video call. It’s going to be fun the next few weeks. I’m looking forward to it.”

Then, it appeared to be settled.

When the gate button alerted them, Michael picked up his phone.

No one should be at their gate.

They weren’t expecting anyone.

“Is it Finn?” Gabby asked, knowing he had left a little while ago to head to work.

He shook his head as he was checking out the video on his phone that relayed from the gate. Oh, and he was seeing someone he did NOT expect to see.

“No, it’s Sarah,” he said.

Graham lifted a brow.

“Sarah the psychic?” he asked, confused as to why she’d be there. They hadn’t called her. “That Sarah?”

He nodded in confusion.

Not far away, Elizabeth was genuinely befuddled by that. Did they have a psychic on speed dial? A psychic who made house calls? Was that a thing here?

“Why is a psychic visiting us?” she inquired.

That was a damn good question.

Hitting the app on his phone, Michael opened the gate, allowing her entrance into the estate. Then, he got up and got ready to meet her at the door.

“I’ll see what she wants,” he offered.

Grabbing his coffee, he headed away, and Graham explained to Elizabeth.

“That’s the psychic we asked to come here last time we wanted to figure this out. She was helpful.”

Ethan was curious.

“Is she legit?” he asked. “Because we tend not to buy into that bullshit,” he admitted.

Unless it was a Littlemoon.

They were three days past legit. They were the real deal and helped them.

Graham nodded.

“I think so.”

Gabby shared what she’d told her.

“She knew I had a miscarriage and told me that there will be babies. Sarah promised that it was my ex’s fault that I couldn’t keep a pregnancy. He had rotten sperm.”

Elizabeth laughed

“That’s what she said?” she asked.

Gabby shrugged.

“I added that last part. It makes me feel better about wasting my time being married to him when I could have been hitched to a hot Scottish man.”

Yeah, that would be annoying, so Elizabeth found that surprising and amazing that her friend was going to be okay. She wanted babies for her in the worst way.

“Let’s go see what she wants,” Elizabeth said. “Now, I’m curious.”

Well, if that was what the lady wanted…

Heading out of the kitchen, they reached the foyer just as Michael was opening the door and greeting her.

“Sarah…”

She stopped him.

“My spirit guide said I needed to come up here today, and I needed to talk with a woman who needed me. My guide said she’s in emotional turmoil, and that it’s imperative that I get my arse here.”

That was all he had to hear.

Glancing over, he focused on Elizabeth.

“Sunshine, it’s for you,” he said, trying not to laugh at the lunacy of the whole situation. If this didn’t push Elizabeth over the edge, nothing would.

As she stood there, she couldn’t believe it.

Of course, it was for her.

Apparently, Scotland did have door-to-door psychics.

And this one was looking for her.

Oh, boy.
