Charlie Intermission I

“I don’t… have a phone, though,” Charlie mumbled, watching as the elevator door closed.

The messy office was draped in silence. A few papers rustled and fell from the tall towers around him.

He looked at the mess of files that crowded the area Lucky had gestured to when he’d mentioned a desk and approached, figuring it was the most logical place to start so he could have a place to properly organize.

He picked up a piece of paper from the top of a stack and flipped it over to look at the information on the front.

He gasped when he read the name and quickly set it back down before placing his hands together.

He felt like he shouldn’t have seen such important information, but curiosity got the better of him so he picked it back up and studied the reaping contract for one Edgar Allan Poe.

“Oh dear, I’m going to get so distracted,” Charlie mumbled to himself in the quiet.

It was overwhelmingly quiet. He wasn’t sure he liked it.

No, he was certain he didn’t like it, not one bit.
