Chapter 29 Wren

Wren

THE SONGBIRD

The slam of a door startles me awake and I scramble on the couch. The movement sends the popcorn bucket on its side, spilling it haphazardly on the floor. I must have fallen asleep with it on my stomach. I guess it could have been worse. It could have been ice cream.

I rush to clean up the mess before the boys see how jumbled I am.

I’m shoving small handfuls of popcorn back into the bowl when I hear the sound of heavy footsteps make their way towards me and my nerves start to eat at my insides.

They know so much more about me now, I feel like the walls I’ve built up are practically in hell at this point.

“Did we wake you?” Nox asks in a whisper, walking over to where I lay on the couch. His hand darts out and snags at my hair, pulling a piece of popcorn out of it.

How fucking embarassing.

“You know you’re supposed to eat it, right? Not wear it?”

“Ha ha,” I laugh sarcastically, crossing my arms. “You guys are home late. Where’ve you been?”

The words are so casual, I don’t even recognize my own voice as I glance past Nox.

Kage walks in right behind him and my heartbeat picks up at the sight of him.

He looks different than when he left. Freshly showered I’m sure based on the soapy scent that I can smell even from here.

But it’s his shirt that gets me. It’s not the one he left in.

Although he did leave in a black shirt, the one he left in was baggy. This one is fitted.

Did he think I wouldn’t notice something like that just because it’s the same color?

It’s stupid, so fucking stupid, but my chest tightens, jealousy spiking deep in my chest. Where have they been that required a shower and a fresh change of clothes? What—or who—was he trying to wash off? The question simmers in the back of my throat, but I hold it back.

I paste on a tight smile and focus on moving popcorn around in the bowl like it’s the most fascinating thing in the world.

“Out,” Kage answers casually with a grin as if nothing's wrong.

Out. That’s it. No explanation or detail.

Out of the corner of my eye, I watch as Nox drifts towards the sleek, black bar set up along the far wall of the living room.

He doesn’t say anything as he pours himself a drink and sits down on the chair opposite of the couch.

I need to leave before they notice the absolute storm that’s brewing beneath my skin.

“I think I’m just gonna go to bed,” I say softly as I stand from where I was laying on the couch and make my way towards the hallway, not looking at either of them as I go.

“Wait.” Kage’s voice is loud and commanding, causing me to stop dead in my tracks.

“What?”

“We haven’t spent any time together today. Where are you running off to?”

The words ignite something violent inside me and I spin to face him, anger and hurt bubbling up before I could swallow it down.

“Well, whose fault is that?” My voice shakes but I don’t back down.

“You disappeared for hours for some supposed ‘business’,” I gesture towards him, my hands trembling.

“And then you show up like this, freshly showered and in a whole new shirt, and I’m just supposed to sit here like a good little pet and not wonder where the hell you were? ”

Kage’s expression hardens and I see the moment his jaw locks tight.

“Wonder?” he questions.

“Yeah, wonder! I get that there may not be anything going on here between the three of us, but if you’re going to go fuck around with some other woman,” Nox’s head snaps towards me, his normally calm face morphing to something dark.

“I’m not going to sit here waiting around for you to get home and spend time with me. ”

My voice cracks under the weight of my frustration. “I’ll just go stay with Olive or something.”

“What the fuck, Wren,” Nox says softly, each word filled with pure malice.

Kage on the other hand, he doesn’t look hurt. He looks fucking furious.

“Is that what you think of us?” he growls, his voice dropping to a lethal rumble.

“I don’t know what to think!” I shout back, tears stinging my eyes.

“Because you don’t tell me anything! You keep beating around the bush, talking about some mission and how I’ll fuck it up, and then you walk in here smelling like soap and dressed in something different,” my voice breaks again as I try to spit out everything I’m feeling.

“And I’m supposed to just smile and trust you? ”

The room falls silent, nothing but the harsh sounds of my breathing fills the space between us three, but the tension is deafening.

In less than a second, Kage is on me. His hand grips my jaw, forcing my head back so I’m staring up into those wild, furious blue eyes.

My back slams into the wall, the force ratting the art that hangs beside my head.

“Sweetheart,” he snarls, as he slips his hand down around my throat squeezing slightly. Not enough to stop my breathing, but enough to hold me in place. “The only thing I’ve been doing tonight is thinking about you while you ran around this house in nothing but a t-shirt on.”

I want to fight back, tell him he’s lying and that I know what it looks like when someone’s been out screwing around.

But my throat locks up because he’s so close, and that burning intensity in his gaze feels like it might swallow me whole.

I have no right to tell him what he can and cannot do.

I’m not his girlfriend. I’m just…a girl.

Behind him, Nox stands slowly, approaching us with slow steps. It’s so dramatic, I can feel my pulse thrumming against Kage’s fingers.

“You really think we’d fuck around on you? After last night?” Nox’s voice is dangerously calm, but there’s nothing soft in the way his eyes have me pinned in place. I should be scared right now, but instead I’m desperate for them, wanting them to touch me in all the same places they did last night.

“We don’t share, Wren. Not like that.”

Kage dips his head, his lips brushing mine ever so slightly, making my knees go weak.

“You’re it for us,” he growls. “You need proof?”

My breathing stutters, my anger at war with what I want.

“Fuck you,” I whisper, even as my body betrays me, arching towards him.

“Gladly.” Kage’s mouth crashes down on mine, wild and consuming, his tongue pushing past my lips with a possessive hunger that steals the air from my lungs. His hand drops from my throat to my waist, then lower, gripping my thigh and hauling it up against his hip.

I gasp against his mouth, and that sound seems to spark something in Nox. He crowds in beside us, one hand tangling in my hair to turn my head towards him.

“Ours,” he says, before his mouth claims the side of my throat. His teeth scrape my pulse point and I whimper as I’m pinned between them.

“Fuck,” Kage groans against my lips, his voice ragged.

“You taste like anger, little bird. You wanna fight me, huh? Wanna punish me for walking in wearing a different shirt?” His free hand slips between us, finding my bare pussy and drawing slow circles against my clit.

“Then let me give you a better reason to scream my name.”

My gasp shatters into a moan as his fingers tease me, every cruelly slow circle only stokes the fire in my belly until I’m trembling against him.

“God, Kage,” I pant as my nails dig into his shoulders. I don’t know if I should push him away or pull him closer, but I end up doing the latter.

Nox growls low in my ear, his teeth scraping against my skin. “She’s already dripping for us, brother. Doesn’t really sound like she wants to keep fighting.”

He bites down hard and I cry out, my head falling back against the wall.

“She likes the fight,” Kage laughs. “That’s why she’s so fucking wet.”

His mouth trails down my neck, biting hard enough to bruise, but the pain quickly morphs into pleasure and I moan loudly in his ear.

“You honestly think we’d fuck anyone else when we’ve got this perfect little pussy right here?” His tone is sharp and possessive, making me moan even louder. “No, baby. You’re the only one who gets us this way.”

Nox’s hand slides down my side and beneath the hem of my shirt, skimming my ribs until he cups my breast. His thumb circles my nipple, tugging it into a stiff peak as he pulls back just far enough to meet my eyes.

“We’re going to ruin you tonight, phoenix. Right here, where you accused us of fucking someone else.”

The promise in his tone makes my thighs clench, a weak whimper escaping me. Kage pulls his fingers away from my clit suddenly, leaving me desperate and aching. I whine, my hips arching towards his hand.

Kage gives me a wicked smirk as he strips his clothes off, layer by agonizing layer, until he’s completely naked and hard before me. “Don’t worry, little bird,” he purrs, leaning down so his lips brush my ear. “You’re about to get more than just my fingers.”

Nox moves behind Kage, his voice sharp and commanding. “Move.”

Before I can process what’s happening, Kage’s arms shift around me, spinning me so his back crashes against the wall. My body collides with his hard chest, his grip locking me in place.

Nox doesn’t hesitate. He grabs my waist, turning me sharply to face him before he yanks my shirt up and over my head. The fabric catches on my hair before ripping free and I gasp as the cool air hits my bare skin, my nipples tightening instantly.

“Fuck, look at her,” Nox says, as his eyes travel down my naked body. “She looks so perfect like this.”

He steps back just long enough to tear off his own shirt, tossing it carelessly onto the floor before unfastening his pants.

The hard, rigid length of him springs free, and the sight alone makes my mouth water.

Nox steps closer, pinning me between the two of them.

My chest is heaving, I can barely breathe as Kage’s cock presses hard against my ass while Nox’s thick length nudges the front of my thigh.

Nox leans in, his mouth grazing against my ear as he says, “Hold her open for me.”
