Chapter 26
You don’t know what abominable snowmen eat, and you don’t want to know. You would rather go hungry than drink goat blood.
“No, thanks,” you say.
“Are you sure?” he asks. “I thought I heard your stomach rumbling earlier.”
He’s right, but you’re not going to admit it. Anyway, you can go a day without eating. People don’t need to eat every single day.
The snowman makes food for himself. Truthfully, it doesn’t look like anything scary. In fact, it looks like he’s eating some cereal. But you’ve already committed yourself to this decision.
After a little while, you turn in on the bed of leaves in the corner. Unfortunately, your willpower isn’t as strong as you thought, because you wake up in the middle of the night, with an empty, gnawing sensation in the pit of your belly.
You’ve never been so hungry in your entire life.
You get up out of bed, your legs weak from hunger. Robert is asleep in a pile beside the fire, snoring louder than a chainsaw. He doesn’t seem aware of anything going on around him.
The hitchhiker isn’t nearly as sound a sleeper.
He wakes up and makes frantic grunting noises under his gag, but you ignore his attempts to get your attention.
However, you notice there’s a duffel bag by his side, which he’d been carrying on the road when you passed him by. You wonder if that contains any food.
You eye the duffel bag, your stomach roaring.
It isn’t right to go through somebody else’s belongings, but also, he’s already tied up.
It seems like the worst has already happened to this guy.
Anyway, it’s not your fault that he’s here.
Robert was the one who captured him and tied him up. You’re just hungry.
