Chapter 71

The way Carson is looking at you, you just know what he is thinking. He wants you. And you want him just as badly.

You’re going to go for it.

You leap into his arms, pressing your lips against his snout. It is the best kiss you have ever had. You make out for another minute, and then you start pulling off your blouse. You expect him to rip it open the way he did with his own shirt, but instead, he backs away.

“Whoa!” he says. “What are you doing?”

Oh God, how embarrassing. You totally got your signals crossed. “I… I’m sorry. I thought you wanted to…”

“I like you, Sloan,” he says seriously. “But I don’t do that.”

“You don’t?”

“No.” He frowns. “I plan to wait for marriage. Of course.”

What? This super handsome werewolf guy is waiting for marriage? How is that possible?

“Oh,” you say.

“I know it’s a little unconventional.” He shifts, a bit uncomfortable. “But I feel like with the right woman, she’ll understand and want to wait like I do.” He gazes at you in the moonlight. “Are you that woman, Sloan?”

“Um, sure,” you say. “I can wait.”

Maybe he’ll change his mind.

It turns out Carson drives a pretty cool red Jaguar.

He takes you back to his sprawling mansion, and when you get there, you do not make love even a little bit.

You sleep in separate bedrooms until your spectacular destination wedding in the Balkans, where all the guests attending are wolves.

It’s a magical day, and you’ve never been so happy.

On your wedding night, you and Carson make love for the very first time in a castle you’ve reserved on a hilltop. It’s every bit as amazing as you imagined it would be.

As you lie together in bed when it’s over, Carson snuggles up against you. “Wow,” he sighs. “That was incredible.”

“Yeah. I almost want a cigarette.”

He laughs. “I don’t want a cigarette, but I’m starving—and you know how dangerous it is when werewolves get too hungry. I’m going to get something to eat in the kitchen.”

“Hey,” you say, “you just worked so hard. Let me get it for you.”

“Are you kidding? I’m not going to let my bride fetch me food on our wedding night.”

You consider arguing with him, but maybe you should just let him wait on you. It is your wedding night, after all.
