Chapter 14 The Runt

The Runt

Roarke

I gently got out of bed, the events of early that day still going through my head.

The new king was born. I couldn't believe it, and I was his uncle.

I looked over at Devin who lay in my bed.

I loved and hated him being there. I loved he was there by my side and hated the fact that I wasn't strong enough to claim him.

The memories of today weren't the only thing that kept me awake.

Every time I closed my eyes, I saw the spear jamming deep into my stomach.

That was the nightmare that kept me awake most nights, and while the adoption into the golden caste strengthened me, it didn't fully heal me.

I didn't know if I would ever be fully healed.

A chime sounded from my nightstand. I went over and picked up my phone.

Angus

Hey Runt, we haven't heard from you in a bit and dad is getting worried. Call us.

My brothers all called me runt and teased me.

I wondered how they were going to take it that I outranked them, and not only them, but my father.

I looked over to Devin again and thanked the gods that Kris had saved me.

I just hoped my parents understood. One thing was for sure.

Before I faced them, I was going to be mated and at full strength.
