Chapter 57 Undercover Agent

Since the night Kendall yelled from the balcony, there had been no other noise coming from the apartment next door late at night.

Of course, this did not necessarily mean that James hadn't abused Olivia, he might have simply used other more covert methods that prevented Olivia from crying out.

Kendall had only recently moved into this complex and, in the middle of it, had spent several days in other cities completing tasks. The number of times Kendall had slept in the apartment was minimal, yet in those few times, she had encountered such a distressing situation.

Given the task hanging on the system panel, Kendall made a point to pay attention every time she entered or left. Sure enough, after a few days, she encountered Olivia's husband, James.

Since the reality show premiere was imminent, Kendall had been frequenting the martial arts gym more often.

It was another instance of climbing the stairs to the thirteenth floor, drenched in sweat. When Kendall reached the landing, she noticed a tall, middle-aged man with his head down opening the door to Olivia's apartment.

The man was wearing a black suit and black-rimmed glasses. Although his face wasn't visible from the front, his profile suggested he was a man of dignified appearance and not unattractive.

He carried a briefcase and wore a pair of shiny black leather shoes, dressed like a successful professional. The door opened, and he quickly entered the room. Kendall withdrew her gaze.

Olivia hadn't contacted Kendall since she left her apartment, but Kendall wasn't worried. Although the system had issued this random task, the decision to divorce or not ultimately rested with Olivia.

If Olivia didn't want a divorce and Kendall kept pressuring her, Kendall would only end up becoming the villain. A desire to help is fine, but only when the other person urgently needs and seeks that help.

Returning home, Kendall enjoyed a comfortable hot bath. After stepping out of the bathroom, she picked up her phone and saw two missed calls, both from Mark.

'It seems like Mark's calling frequency has been quite high recently.'

Kendall didn't have many close friends. Her good friends were deep in the mountains and could not be contacted because they didn't have phones. With practically zero social life, even fewer people contacted Kendall after she left the Hansen family.

In fact, two days ago, after the production team announced the cast list, Liam and his mother had tried to call Kendall, but when they realized Kendall had blocked them, their faces immediately darkened, and they decided not to contact her again.

Kendall wasn't aware that the Hansen family had tried to contact her. Of course, even if she knew, she probably wouldn't care. As soon as she blocked everyone in the Hansen family and stepped out of their villa, she had already cut all ties with them in her heart.

She just wondered why Mark had called twice. The criminals she had caught earlier had already confessed. She hadn't sent in any new criminals these past two days, it seemed like there were no other unresolved matters.

While thinking, Kendall raised her hand and returned the call.

Mark seemed to be right by his phone, the call was picked up the second after she dialled.

Mark yelled, "I finally got your call."

Even through the phone, Kendall could hear the excitement in Mark's voice.

Kendall's tone was flat. "Yes?"

Mark's voice was urgent. "Tell me truthfully. A while ago, I called you and asked you to come to the police station because the family of the victims in the theft case wanted to thank you in person. You said you were at the train station and had to leave Orapolis. Do you remember that?"

Kendall replied, "I remember. What about it?"

Mark eagerly pressed on. "Did you go to Ruby Road?"

Hearing the name Ruby Road, Kendall's eyebrows rose, sensing what this was about. She seemed to know what the matter was.

The last time, to complete the human trafficker task, she specifically went to Ruby Road to catch Helen. She didn't catch Helen, but she did catch two of Helen's accomplices, Joe and John.

Instead of answering, Kendall asked, "Ruby Road Police called you?"

Although Kendall wasn't always online, she did check trending topics, which included the human trafficker incident from last time.

To save space, she had tied John and Joe to the roof of a van, and she hadn't expected to be filmed by a live streamer. She was also mistakenly identified as some sort of perverted killer by the blogger and netizens.

Later, after seeing the full story online, Kendall understood why the blogger named Mike was so concerned about John and Joe when he rushed to the scene on his motorcycle. 'It turns out he mistook the two human traffickers for victims.'

Perhaps it was because he was scarred by netizen's insults, or perhaps the police station had specifically instructed him, but Mike hadn't live streamed recently.

Many netizens were waiting in Mike's live stream room and under the Ruby Road Police's official TikTok account, waiting for them to explain the truth of what happened that day.

However, Mike remained completely silent on the matter until he stopped streaming.

As one of the people involved in the case, Kendall had some thoughts about the Ruby Road Police's silence.

Since Helen, Joe, and the others could develop child and young girl trafficking into a supply chain spanning decades, it definitely involved more than just the three of them, there must be other accomplices and masterminds behind the scenes.

The Ruby Road Police likely wanted to follow this clue further, which was why they didn't issue a clarification statement. They would rather be misunderstood by netizens as covering up a kidnapping than frighten the snake out of its hole.

Although Kendall didn't admit it, her question was almost as good as a confession. Mark had already guessed this before making the call, but when he received the genuine, concrete confirmation, he couldn't suppress his internal shock.

"It really was you!" Mark opened his mouth, completely speechless.

'How long has it been?'

'Not even a month!'

Kendall had consecutively caught several criminals, giving her more achievements than those of them with an official police badge.

Furthermore, according to his colleagues at the Ruby Road Police, she was also abducted by the human traffickers but then fought back and counter-killed, all alone.

Mark didn't know whether to lament Kendall's bad luck or marvel at her overwhelming ability. Mark suppressed his excitement and quietly asked, "Be honest with me, are you one of my colleagues?"

Kendall didn't understand. "Hmm?"

Mark spoke more directly, his voice even carrying a hint of admiration. "Are you an undercover agent from a special department?"

They didn't have one in his department, but he had seen them on TikTok.

Maybe Kendall was an elite officer secretly assigned by another department to work among the public!

Kendall: "..."

"No."
