Chapter 7 #2

Smashing him with his fist with so much force it sends out a shock wave that pushes me back a bit. As soon as I regain my footing I start to have flashbacks to my unit and what transpired in the desert.

Shaking it off I notice that Lucius is no longer standing and I can’t see him through the raging battle. Frida engages Mammon and I rush the Cerberus that Achilles is currently dealing with.

By the time I get there he has already decapitated one of the other heads. Lunging at the last head, I put all of my force into my slash and connect with the top of its head with such force I split the head in half and it slumps to the ground, dead.

“AAAHHHHH,” Frida’s voice rings out in the distance. Turning, I’m horrified by what I see. Mammon is standing in front of her with his ax embedded in her abdomen and I can see the light begin to fade in her eyes.

“NO,” I roar out so loud the entire battle pauses for a second and it feels like time stops.

My head is flooded with images of how I died and then that feeling, no, the need to save her erupts from me as I let out a tremendous roar. I latch onto it, feeding it like a raging fire until everything goes white.

As my vision quickly returns I’m standing, holding Frida in my arms. Slightly confused I see she is still alive, so I shout, “Achilles see to Frida.”

Scanning the battlefield I notice the distance between where I was and where I am is covered not only in dead demons, but ash. I notice Mammon getting up off the ground about fifty yards away, not knowing how he got there in the first place it didn’t matter.

As soon as the thought to attack him crosses my mind we are instantaneously face to face.

With my left hand gripped around his throat he frantically tries to pry it off but fails.

He desperately reaches for his ax and as he does, with my right claw, I grab his upper arm and shatter the bones, digging my claws in deep, just about severing it.

He wildly throws punch after punch but I don’t feel a thing almost as if nothing is even hitting me. Pulling his face closer to mine, I let out a roar with such ferocity and power that it shakes the entire battlefield, while continuing to apply more and more pressure to his throat.

Feeling it collapsing within my grip, I thrust my free claws into his chest and unlike before something tells me to let go of the energy that is filling me.

As soon as I do I notice that my black fur now has a sterling white pattern that resembles lightning stretching down my arms. As this power flows through me the silver fur illuminates and I feel like it’s flowing from my shoulders, through my chest, and into my arm, then into Mammon’s chest.

A bright blinding light begins to pierce through his chest in all directions as he tries to mutter something, but it’s drowned out by a loud explosion as he evaporates into absolute nothingness.

Letting out another powerful victorious roar, the demon horde abruptly stops attacking and realizes that their leader has been obliterated. They start to panic and retreat back to Hell.

“Evander,” Achilles shouts.

Turning, I rush to him and Frida. I see she has returned to her human form and is still alive. A wave of relief sweeps over me, but is immediately replaced with concern about her horrible wound that doesn’t seem to be healing.

Scooping her up as I apply pressure to her wound as best I can and take off toward Heaven’s gate. Just like before, what seems to be almost instantaneous I reach the gate and Uriel.

“Take her to the medical wing now, and if anything happens to her I will kill you,” I shout as I turn back.

Rushing back to Perseus to see if he is still alive, I reach him just as Achilles does and I notice a look of bewilderment on his face as he sees me as if to say ‘what the hell have you become’.

Shaking it off and turning our attention back we are both shocked to see that he is still alive but covered in a black oozy almost tar like substance and is screaming in pain. Achilles leans down to pick him up and touches the black substance.

He jolts back and shouts, “Mother Fucker.” I look at his hand. Somehow it got burned and is beginning to blister. Seeing that, both of us grab Perseus and rush him back to the gate, to safety and hopefully in time to save him.

As soon as we reach the gate, Achilles commands a handful of angels to take him to the medical wing immediately. We check our arms, and just from carrying him we are both badly burned as well, but it doesn’t matter we still need to find Lucius.

“Ugh what the fuck hit me?” Lucius says groggy and dazed, staggering to his feet.

We both take off toward him and before I know it I’m standing next to him, helping him up.

Looking back Achilles has only covered half the distance.

But within that second that it took me to reach him my wounds are fully healed now.

As Achilles reaches us I see his wounds are beginning to heal as well. “What the hell happened?” Lucius groans, grabbing his head. Then he looks at me. “What the hell happened to you?” he asks, looking behind me for some reason.

“You got blindsided by Mammon and knocked unconscious,” Achilles replies.

Why was he looking behind me? Checking to make sure no one is sneaking up on me, I finally noticed them. Two large wings have sprouted from my back, starting black at the base and up the arm, then fading into brilliant white feathers.

“The other two are in bad shape and are now headed to the infirmary. We came back to get you and headed there, this battle is all but won now. The angels can handle the rest of the demons,” Achilles says.

”Evander, when we get back we need to have a talk with all of the Archangels to understand not only what you did here today, but what has happened to you,” he says looking at my wings.
