Chapter 11

“Okay, I’m calling it,” Achilles shouts from the other side of the arena. Looking back at Lucius climbing off the ground with a wince and I smile. I may have hit him a little harder than I planned.

“Far vel. See you tomorrow,” I yell back, then walk over to the battle grounds where Evander and Michael are going head to head.

He’s getting more powerful as the days pass, and I’m starting to think maybe we will gain the upper hand after all. Michael hits him with a strong blow to the head and Evander goes flying. I bite my lip, so that I don’t laugh when he smacks his fists on the ground and growls.

The sound courses through my body, heating me. Damn he’s sexy. Even when he’s pissed that Michael got a hit on him.

Day after day, I’ve started to grow closer to Evander.

A few kisses here and there and some heavy petting, which Serafine is loving, but I want more.

I think he does too. The way he holds me close and how he protected me against Micheal.

Even though I’m a badass and don’t need him to, he makes me feel cherished.

I have never felt this way about someone. I think maybe he’s my soulmate. But that’s crazy right?

We’re in the middle of an endless war right now. It’s not the time for me to become mushy and fall in love.

“Who said anything about love? I want to mate with him.”

I roll my eyes at Serafine and her perverted thoughts. Not that she’s completely off base, but still time and place.

And standing on the sidelines as Evander trains is not the place. I am a badass warrior, not some fawning school girl.

“Fine, I’ll drool over him and Fenrir, and you can continue to fight your feelings.”

“I’m not fighting anything, Sera, I really like him, but besides the few moments we have spent together, he’s busy. You know that,” I remind her and she huffs.

“I bet if you presented yourself to him on your hands and knees he would make time,” she taunts before going quiet and I roll my eyes.

But I mean that thought has merit. Maybe I should steal Evander away for a little while.

He trains a few moments longer, then Michael calls it a day.

Lucius gives Evander a smack on his shoulder as they talk about some hits he got in when Michael was distracted.

I wait for Lucius to leave, then walk over to him.

Lucius is always there to interrupt us whenever we get a moment alone it seems. But not tonight.

“Hey, what’s up?” Evander asks with a grin as I reach him. Lifting his T-shirt to wipe his brow of sweat, he gives me a peek of his delicious abs.

Licking my lips, I smirk when he raises his eyebrow after he catches me looking.

“Oh, nothing, just wanted to hang out,” I coo, taking my hand and running it along his chest, to the band of his shorts.

He’s all sweaty and smells delicious. I think I need another bite. He is my chew toy after all.

“Oh yeah,” Evander says with a smirk, pulling me closer to him and pressing his lips to mine, quickly. I sigh as he pulls away and takes my hand. Leading me toward the food hall, I groan.

“Wait, let’s take a walk before we grab something to eat,” I suggest and he looks around. There are a few angels practicing, but most of our team has gone to get food. “Sure, lead the way,” he says and I smile.

“I have been wanting to take you here, but things have been so hectic. It’s my secret spot,” I say as we walk through the halls toward our rooms.

“Your bedroom,” he grunts and I roll my eyes.

“Just wait,” I mutter, and open the door.

His eyes go wide and his jaw drops. “What the…”

“Welcome to my Valhalla,” I sigh.

“This looks just like a forest. How is this possible? Mine looks like my room back at home… Well before I died, I mean.” He gets quiet and I don’t want him sinking into the sadness of his past.

I grab his arm and lead him to my favorite place. The waterful soon shows through the trees.

“Okay, that’s fucking cool,” he grunts and I laugh. Sera is preening at his reaction to our home. She likes pleasing Evander. Letting him go, I strip off my clothes then dive into the cool water below.

When I created my Heaven it was a place from home that I loved. One was this forest in Lapland. Every night you could see the Northern Lights through the trees and if you were lucky sometimes the snow would be so thick, we could build a hut of ice for shelter as we watched.

It’s been a very long time since I was on Earth. Countless days of training and battles. It’s nice to have a moment to rest.

“Are you coming?” I shout.

Evander is at the top of the small cliff, staring at me. “You can swim right?” I joke, and he chuckles before removing his tee. His chest is defined and even more delicious from above.

“I want to take a bite out of him,” Sera purrs.

“Behave. I don’t want to freak him out by you coming on too strong.”

“No fun.” She pouts, then leaves me, so that I may enjoy this moment with Evander.

It’s been work, work, work and no play. Which makes Frida grumpy.

“Yes, I can. I learned in a small lake back home when I was five or six. One of my best friends drowned. My mother signed me up for classes the next day.” He looks off into the woods, frowning.

Before I can even think of a way to offer him comfort, he finishes stripping off his clothing, then cannonballs next to me. Water splashes everywhere and I cry out in joy.

“Wow, this feels amazing,” he mutters, and I nod. “You get to come here every day?”

“Yeah, and if you’re lucky, I may let you join me.” I wink, then duck underneath the water, smirking.

Swimming away from him, I head to my favorite cave. There is a blanket waiting on the dry edge, with some of my favorite snacks. I can manifest anything, but I still lean toward mead, lingonberries, and curds of dairy.

Evander follows me. I choose to stay in the water and grab a handful of the fruit and cheese.

Evander looks all around and I can see him starting to relax. He grabs one of the berries and sniffs it. “I could manifest something else if you’d like?” I offer and he shakes his head.

“This is fine,” he grunts then grins. He looks happy here with me and that makes me smile.

Sera perks up and preens again, getting excited. She wants to shift and run through the trees with him, but not right now. Maybe after we swim.

Leaning closer to me he brushes the messy red hair from my face and places it over my shoulder, causing shivers to run down my spine. I love it though. I have never felt a connection to someone else like this.

He’s the only one here to make me lower my guard. Moving closer to him, he runs his finger over the scar on my cheek and I shiver. I want him… now. I lean in, but he shifts back. His eyes are filled with lust, but still he fights it.

Maybe I need to be more human and get to know him? Evander hasn’t been here as long as I have. His wolf tendencies don’t control him yet. Sighing, I grab another grape.

“So tell me more about before,” I begin. I want to know everything about his time and where he came from.

“Boring,” Sera whines and I try to focus on Evander and what he’s saying.

“He’s not like us, Serafine. Fenrir and him are still bonding.”

“Not much to tell. I had a normal childhood, and joined the military when I was eighteen. It didn’t take me long to climb the ranks.”

I wait for him to say more, but he shoves some curds in his mouth.

“What about friends? Maybe an unnasta? Girlfriend?” Fuck, I hope he’s not still pining over someone. Sera whimpers as we wait for him to respond. I am a badass shieldmaiden. I am not some love sick pup, but damn he makes me feel all sorts of ways.

“Never had time for relationships,” he grunts. “When I wasn’t deployed to another country, I would just stay home with my dog. She’s the only woman in my life, not counting my mom.”

He gets quiet and frowns. “I hope she’s doing okay. I left her with my mom before I shipped out. What about you?”

I swim around him and grab my ale, taking a swig.

“I’m afraid my life wasn’t as thrilling. I lived in a small village. We hunted during the days and partied at night. My family had a farm where I would help out sometimes, but I didn’t want to live that life. I wanted adventure, that’s why I became a skjaldmaer, a warrior.”

Sighing, I reach for the mead again and take a large gulp, not caring as it drips along my chin, down over my naked breasts, and into the water.

Evander’s eyes watch the liquid and I grin as he leans forward and traces it with his tongue, groaning. My nipples pebble and I moan as he nips one before pulling away.

“Don’t stop,” I sigh, moving closer to him, he smirks as I lick my lips. I want him to take me, but he seems hesitant. I know a lot of shit is going on outside of my room, but right now it’s just us in paradise.

When he doesn’t say anything, or move to continue, I grumble under my breath, and pull back. I finish my drink, then manifest it away when empty. He closes his eyes and takes a breath. “Listen, Frida… I…”

Raising my hand, I press my finger against his lips, shutting him up. His eyes open and he smirks, then nips my fingertip, growling.

Fenrir is shining through his eyes and Sera is becoming restless.

She wants to play with him and I can’t fault her.

I wish I could take a bite out of him too.

Reaching out, he pulls me against his naked chest and when I gasp, he presses his lips against mine, finally giving in to our insane tension.

A whimper escapes my lips when he tangles his tongue with mine and I can’t help it. He’s hard everywhere and I’m slick. I want him. I need him. My body craves him. I’m desperate and not afraid to show him.

“We shouldn’t do this,” he groans, backing away as I sink into the water again panting.

“Why?” I huff, trying to catch my breath. My whole body is buzzing. I need more.

“He’s taunting us, Frida. He wants a chase, so let’s give him one.” Sera is stirring, becoming impatient, and I don’t think I’ll be able to contain her for much longer.
