Revelations
After arriving at the castle, Geoff showed me to my room and told me to meet Flynn in an hour down the hall.
Now I’m sitting in Flynn’s waiting room, sipping bourbon, waiting for him to arrive.
I can’t believe I'm here. Everything happened so quickly, my mind is currently mush and my body aches from forcing it to move so much after being laid up for so long.
I do not remember killing anyone, let alone being awake since the blast. I have so many fucking questions.
The door swings open and Flynn walks in, and I stand to give his hand a shake.
“Dario, it’s so good to see you, son,” he says, relieved I’m here.
“Thank you for sending your men for me,” I thank him, and he nods, gesturing for me to take a seat. He unbuttons his suit jacket before he does the same, then pouring himself a drink.
“I’m sure you have many questions for me,” he says, taking a sip of his drink.
“I do. How the hell did I end up in Russia? I remember the ambulance being intercepted on my way to the airstrip because that was the original plan. Fake my death and the ambulance would take me to the airstrip. My SUV being blown up wasn’t your doing right?”
“No, it wasn’t. Spade will have to update you on the finer details, but you’re right.
Someone intercepted the ambulance, and they took you without a trace.
It wasn’t until Stefan Illich came to me with a deal for your safety that we knew anything about your whereabouts.
I’m not supposed to tell you this, but he’s one of our council members, and soon you will know that once your wife takes over,” he informs me, and my eyes widen.
“So we don’t know who intercepted, but Stefan found me and made a deal?” I say, making sure I have the details correct.
“Yes. He needed someone to be removed with no repercussions against his family.”
“A life for a life? Seems to be a pattern around here lately,” I growl.
“Watch it, Dario. Your father and Esteban took my daughter Jocelyn and raped your wife. This needs to fucking happen, whether or not you and Spade like it,” he spits. I know he’s right. Just another mess we have to clean up from our fathers.
“I’m not complaining! I'm well aware of the contract I signed. Did I really kill people in the capital?” I ask, and he shakes his head.
“It wasn’t you, but it’s someone you know, and hopefully, someone will take care of him soon. He’s becoming a real fucking problem as of late,” he says, taking another sip of his drink.
“I know him?” Color me intrigued.
“Harrison Montgomery Daniels, also known as Monty,” he spits, and I laugh.
“That's hilarious. There’s no way that little pissant murdered all those people in the capital,” I tell him, but he nods, taking out his phone, showing me the footage from one of the security cams.
“Holy shit. Why didn’t the police just cart him away?” I ask, and now it’s his turn to laugh.
“That’s not how we operate. Civilians get arrested, but a madman like that is our problem,” he states with a grin. “Oh, before I forget. I did what you asked with your will. Jade and the others will have it soon enough,” he tells me, and I nod, taking a big gulp of my bourbon.
“So what’s next? Do I get a phone so I can check in with Spade?” I ask as he digs in his pocket, tossing me a new iPhone.
“Thank you. How is she?” I ask him, and he shakes his head.
“Still mourning you, but getting her work done from what I can see. She will be here with Spade after the babies are born,” he tells me, and I nod.
“In the meantime, you will train until I have an assignment for you,” he adds, and I nod again.
This is the deal I made to keep everyone happy and safe, even if it kills me and the woman I love.
“I promise this arrangement won’t be forever. It’s temporary until I feel she’s strong enough to handle anything and everything that comes her way. She still has a lot to learn, but I’m hopeful,” he says, and I smile.
“You severely underestimate your daughter. She’s a warrior and can take on the world. You will see soon enough, but let’s hope when this shit blows up that she doesn’t put a bullet in both of our heads. You know she’s trigger happy.” I smirk.
“I’m betting on it. She may shoot us but it won’t be to kill us.
” He smiles, and I shake my head. “Go get some rest. It’s been an interesting night, to say the least,” he says, getting up from the couch.
Standing, I shake his hand and follow behind him as he leads me out of his room.
Heading down the hall, I see Kane walking towards me.
“Hey, Lad, glad to see you breathing,” he says, patting me on the shoulder.
“You sure about that? You weren't scheming my death so you could slide in on my wife?” I laugh, and he shakes his head.
“She made it clear. I’m not the Lad for her. She only has eyes for you three eejits,” he says before walking off. Getting to my room, I sit down on the bed, taking out the phone Flynn gave me, and powering it on. I need to text Spade and see when he’s available to speak to me.
Me:
Spade…
Spade:
Ri?
Me:
Yes
Spade:
Thank fuck. Flynn said he found you and I’ve been waiting over a week for your text. I’ll call you tomorrow or in the evening your time.
Me:
How is she?
Spade:

Me:
Thank you. Talk later.
Spade:
Roger that
Leaning back against the pillow, I stare at the picture he sent of her laying in bed, sleeping with her mouth parted and her big belly showing.
God, I miss her. I can’t wait for this to be over.
I know I’ll have so much explaining to do, and a lot of groveling, but as long as she will have me, I will do whatever is needed to gain her trust back.
Because what is a fallen king without his queen?
