9. Goodbye

Goodbye
While we drive north, my hands sweat as we sit in silence.
I don’t know why I am so nervous. This is my wife sitting next to me, but yet, I can’t even strike up a conversation.
Her smell is intoxicating, and all I want to do is make her scream my name.
I should’ve never gotten these piercings because if she ask–no begs for my cock–I will give it to her.
There’s no denying my Queen. She clears her throat as I shift gears, flying down the highway with not a clue where I am taking us.
“So, no girlfriend or wife?” she asks me, and I raise a brow.
“How could I have either if I’m here with you?” I reply. A blush creeps up her cheeks, causing me to smirk.
“So, even if you took a vacation from being my guard, you have no one to go home to?” she asks softly, with a little sadness in her tone.
“Unfortunately, no. For much of my life, I have been alone. I don’t really have a home,” I lie because what else am I supposed to tell her?
“That’s really sad, Zayn, but I hope being with us you will eventually feel like a part of our family,” she says, placing her hand over mine as I shift gears again.
I glance over at her and she gives me a slight smile, but the sadness in her eyes speaks volumes.
I’m the reason for that, and it crushes my soul knowing it.
“So multiple husbands?” I say as she takes her hand from the top of mine.
“Yes. It is weird to you?” she asks, and I shake my head.
“Not weird, but interesting. Couldn’t choose just one, huh?”
“I think it's more like they chose me. My heart knew it wanted all of them and they never made me choose between them. Not even a single time. Sometimes love finds you when you least expect it, and to me that's when it's real.” She smiles, and I nod.
“I like that mindset,” I say as her phone blares. She picks it up and brings it to her ear.
“What’s up, Ry? Everything okay?” she asks as her leg bounces.
“Heading up north with Zayn. Why? What’s wrong?
” she asks, that same leg bouncing faster and faster.
“What? What do you mean Jaxon called you?” she yells, as my heart drops.
Why would Jaxon call Ryder? Where the fuck is Spade?
Something is not right. “Fuck! Call Jamie. He was on his way to the city when I left him. I’ll see you at the house.
Kill them all,” she says, slamming the phone on the dashboard.
I don’t think before I flip a uey at the next turn, then push the pedal to the metal, seeing what this car can really do.
“You have any weapons in this car?” she asks, and I nod.
“Not much, but it will do for now. How many are there? The kids okay? Give me something, Jade,” I growl.
“He didn't give me much to go on, Zayn. Just that there are men in my house. Jaxon is hiding with Hazel in my closet. I don’t know where Spade is. By the time we get there, Jamie should be there already,” she says, and I smirk.
“Not if I can help it. Let’s see what this bitch can do.”
Six months later…
Seeing them mourn me and Haven at the cemetery was soul wrenching.
I couldn’t stand there any longer while she wept for us.
It was impossible for me. I was getting too close to them, and they would have figured out who I really was.
It’s bad enough I lunged for my daughter when Dalton was trying to leave with her.
I could’ve blown my whole cover right there.
Then killing Monty with Hazel in the room wasn’t anything I ever wanted my daughter to witness, but what was I supposed to do?
Let him put a gun to my wife’s head while she held my little girl?
Not going to happen on my watch. I vowed to protect them even if it blew my cover.
I heard the vile shit he spit at my wife about Jameson, but I don’t believe my brother is the monster they all make him out to be.
There’s more to it than what meets the eye.
No one has seen or heard from him since he left with Dalton.
I don’t know if he is ever going to return, and that alone has put a damper on things around here.
The kids, especially Hazel, as little as she is, feels the loss of his presence, especially during her bedtime routine.
The whole situation is fucking bullshit, and we have no answers.
I’m ready to pull my hair out. The one thing we are getting closer to is the whole Teagan situation.
I’m hoping by tonight Kane will be here in the states and delivering a full file on the situation so we can plan and prepare for what we are going to do next.
I’ve been waiting for Spade and Ryder to get home, but haven’t heard from them lately.
I’ve made it my mission to keep my distance from Jade until tonight.
My feisty kitten thought she could leave the house, but I put a stop to that which only led her into my bed where I snapped and fucked her senseless, and now she’s fast asleep as I lay next to her listening to her soft breaths as my mind races.
I hate that my time here is almost up. Flynn reminded me a few months ago that I would have to return soon.
I promised Hazel I wouldn’t leave, but I’m hoping with Kane’s arrival we can slay the beast we call Teagan, and Flynn will set me free.
I don’t want to hurt them more than I already have.
Suddenly, my phone vibrates on the end table, and I roll over to grab it, seeing it's Kane.
Kane:
D-boy. I have landed, but something odd is going on. I’ll update you in a moment.
Me:
What the fuck, Kane? You can’t just text me some ominous shit and then tell me you’re gonna update me. The fuck!
Kane:
Hold your horses, Lad.
Me:
FOR FUCKS SAKE!!!!!
I wait for another text to come through, but it never does. Twenty minutes later, my phone vibrates and Kane is calling. I hop up out of bed and head into the bathroom, pressing the green button and bringing it to my ear.
“Kane, what's up?” I whisper.
“D, we got a problem. Flynn just learned that someone totaled Spade's car, but he's not in any hospital,” he says, and my heart drops in my chest. No. This cannot be happening.
“What the fuck? Where are you?” I growl.
“In the car, heading to the mill. Meet me there. It’s time, D,” he says, and I sigh, hanging up the phone.
Walking back into my room, I grab my duffel bag and throw all my clothes and belongings inside.
From underneath the bed, I grab my other duffel that's filled with weapons, then place both by the door.
Ripping a piece of paper off a notepad, I leave Jade a note.
Walking over to her, I run my fingers down her face and lift the blankets to cover the rest of her body.
“I love you, Jade. Be ready for me because Daddy is coming for you, Kitten.” I whisper, placing a gentle kiss on her cheek.
Heading inside, I put my bags by the front door and take the stairs two at a time to the kids’ floor.
Stepping into Prince’s room, I find him fast asleep and place a kiss on his little cheek, then head for Jaxon’s room, doing the same thing.
Finally, going down the hall, I enter my daughter's room.
Picking her up, I hug her tightly, kissing her little cheeks as she sleeps so peacefully.
“Daddy loves you, Hazel. I’ll be back soon, Babygirl. I love you,” I whisper, placing her back in her crib and pulling her little blanket over her body. She takes a deep breath as I step away and out of the room.
Tears fall down my face as I leave the room and head down the stairs and out of the house. Getting in the Audi, I start her up and pull out of the driveway. Rolling up to the gates, I lower the Audi’s window to speak to Rafe.
“I’ll be back soon. Put Prince’s monitor in with Jade. She’s asleep in the pool house,” I tell him, and he nods. Putting the car into gear after he opens the gates, I leave and head for the mill.
It’s time we end this shit, once and for all. I want my family back, but first we need to find Spade and Ryder, then we kill a bitch!
