Chapter 1
‘Why did you bring me here, evil woman? This is not my house. I want to go home.’
Lottie Parker put her hands over her ears and hoped her mother would tire herself out soon. The tirade had been ongoing for a half-hour and she was on the verge of putting herself in a nursing home for some respite, never mind her mother.
Rose was slow-marching around her own kitchen without recognising a thing.
Nothing was familiar to her. It was heartbreaking to watch and Lottie was unable to placate her.
She hadn’t even Boyd for support. Their break-up played on her mind constantly like a vinyl record going round and round, screeching, with no one to lift the needle.
Grating on her nerves. Affecting her ability to sleep.
She’d been staying with her mother for a few nights.
Chloe had left in August for Templemore Garda training college.
Sean had secured a place in University College Galway and was currently staying outside the city with Grace and Bryan, Boyd’s sister and new brother-in-law.
She needed to find a solution for her son, but she didn’t have the funds for student accommodation.
She hadn’t wanted to ask Grace and Bryan to take him in because Grace had kicked Lottie out of their home right before the wedding.
But Boyd had intervened again, interfered.
She had to agree to the arrangement because it meant Sean was sorted, at least for the first term.
‘Okay, Mother, let’s go to mine. It’ll be good for you to have a change.’
‘A change from what? You have me trapped in this house belonging to God knows who, and now you want to bring me somewhere else. Who are you anyhow?’
Lottie groaned and went to pack a bag for her mother.
