Chapter 101
Once the news broke that Alice had been arrested, Sadie Clarke breathed a sigh of relief.
She had done what she could to protect her daughter after the original plan she’d hatched with Caroline had failed.
She tried not to think about Caroline and Freya.
It was too sad and distressing. She folded Lily into her arms and hugged her daughter as tightly as she could without hurting her.
‘Can we go home now?’ Lily asked.
‘We can leave here, but I’m not sure where home is any more.’
And that was the truth. Thomas had been good to her at one time, but then she experienced his true personality.
Having been physically abused as a child by her mother Denise, she had dropped into the arms of another abuser.
She could take that, but she was also experienced enough to know it might happen to her child too.
She hugged Lily even tighter as the door opened and the man stepped inside.
‘I don’t know how to thank you,’ she said.
She picked up the old shoebox containing the secrets she’d held for twenty years. The time was approaching when it would be safe for her to reveal them.
‘No need to thank me. I’m glad I was able to pull it off.’
Christy Kearney held out his hand and led them out of the house. Sadie could hear his father yelling, glad she’d never to have to listen to that again.
