Chapter 2

“Bruh, how much longer you think she’s gonna to be in there?” Sage said as she inhaled the blunt and tapped the ashes outside the window to release. “We’ve been sittin’ here for hours.”

Sage handed Salem the blunt. “I don’t know.” He inhaled and blew out smoke. “Maybe she has a booty call or something.”

“Shit, when the dick calls, it doesn’t matter what time of day,” Salem said, putting his arm in the air and swaying it from side to side. They both busted out laughing.

“Either way, I need her to hurry it up, cause I’m hungry as fuck.” Sage rubbed her growling stomach.

“Fuck you too then! I knew you was still messing with that bitch!” a loud voice shouted.

“Oh, shit!” Salem said, snapping his head up from his phone. “What kinda shit we got going on here?”

Sage followed his gaze and there was Portia walking out of the house calling whoever was behind her all kinds of names but a child of God.

“Oh, shit.” Sage was in disbelief at what she was seeing, placing her hand over her mouth in shock. “Yoooo, that was far from a dick appointment,” she said, snickering.

A short thick masculine presenting woman with a fade followed behind Portia, trying to grab hold of her arm. “Baby, wait–I can explain! It’s not what you think,” she pleaded.

The more the girl begged, the faster Portia moved towards her car. They stood in the driveway for a few minutes, going back and forth until Portia didn’t want to hear any more of the lies coming out of her mouth.

“Take your fucking ring and never call me again.” Portia took her engagement ring off and threw it at her now ex-fiance. The ring hit the girl in the face and she stood there with her hands out in disbelief as Portia walked towards her car.

“OOP!” Salem clutched his invisible pearls as if they were about to pop off. “What in the Love it was the worst mistake they could make.

As a daughter of the Chief Elder of the Vamp Society, she was of high value to not only her father but the society.

The gravest move anyone could make was messing with her or using her as collateral to get their lick back.

“If you’re on the hunt to get back at my father, you got another thing coming,” Portia continued for another minute before anyone could get a word in.

“Slow down, sweetheart.” Sage held up her hands, hoping Portia would calm down. Portia hissed, retrieving her fangs.

“Oooo… sassy!” Salem said, flipping his invisible hair, adding fuel to the fire.

“I’m Sage, this is Salem. We’re only here to keep eyes on you for your pops,” Sage reassured her, and Salem nodded his head in agreement.

Portia rolled her eyes. “So that’s what this is about?” she said, moving her finger between the two of them. “I told him I’d be fine.”

“Welp, your pops thinks otherwise,” Sage shrugged.

“I don’t blame him,” Salem said, sipping his bottle of water.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Portia rolled her neck and folded her arms, waiting for a response.

“It means whatever you got going on over there,” Sage pointed, looking behind her at the house. “Is one of the reasons why we’re here.”

Portia sucked her teeth. “Well, y'all can tell my father…” she said stressing the r in father,

“that I’m following his tight ass rules, so there’s nothing to worry about. He can send you two back home now.”

Salem and Sage looked at each other and laughed. Portia looked at the both of them, trying to figure out what was so funny.

“Yeah, no,” Sage said. “That’s not how it works. We’re going to be here for a while, so get used to it, Princess.”

Portia didn’t have much to say after that. She just stood with her mouth open. Anyone she ever told off usually left as demanded and never stood their ground. They were going to be a pain in Portia’s ass.

Sage and Salem weren’t too thrilled either to be babysitting what seemed like the biggest brat in Eastbourne Hills, but here they were. When it came to doing business for their father, there were no call offs. They were instructed to do a job, and that’s what they were going to do.

“Have a goodnight.” Sage ended the conversation and began rolling up the window before Portia could even respond.

“Well, I’ll be coming back here tomorrow to get my things, so the least you can do is help.” Portia turned on her heels and stormed off towards her car.

Sage sighed and looked at Salem as he giggled. “We got our hands full as hell with this one.”

“Are we really doing this, bruh?” Sage looked at Salem as she opened the car door. “Her pops ain't say nothing about helping her out. Just keeping an eye on her.”

“Come on,” Salem said, motioning his hand for Sage to follow as he walked around the car. “If we keep little miss Queen of the Damned happy, this may make things easier on our end. Shit, we can’t get rid of her anyway.”

They followed Portia up the driveway on the porch. She opened her purse and fondled her keys, trying to find the right one to open the door.

“You sure she’s gone, right?” Sage said hesitantly. She was not someone who wanted to get caught up in some lesbian drama. Especially behind a girl she barely even knew.

Portia sucked her teeth and looked over her shoulder. “Yes, I told y'all she doesn’t get off till 7:30, so we good. I just need to get a couple of things and then we out,” she said, opening the door.

Portia flicked on the light to reveal a disastrous living room filled with liquor bottles, reeking of smoke, and a sea of red solo cups on the floor.

Salem looked down at the floor as they continued walking in, stepping over trash and what he couldn’t make out was vomit or not. “What in the hell y’all got going on?” he asked.

Portia sighed. “Just ignore it. My bags are in the front closet. Grab those and meet me in the back room,” she said, trailing off down the hall.

Sage and Salem looked at each other in disbelief, mouthing, what the fuck?

They didn’t know what the hell was going on, but knew they needed to get out of there as soon as possible.

They went to the front closet as directed, grabbed two large suitcases, and headed down the hall.

Two duffle bags and three suitcases later, Portia had all of her things and they were ready to head out the door.

“Aight. That should be it,” Portia said with her hands on her hips as she scanned what was left in the bedroom. “I should take the furniture too and leave her bitch ass with nothing.”

Portia was disgusted. This wasn’t how she imagined her life.

She was finally leaving the girl she loved since her senior year in high school.

She always thought they would get better, but at this point, she knew nothing could save them.

Shy had been stepping out on her since they first got together, but she thought that eventually, she could be enough for her.

Between Portia looking her best even when she had bad days and fucking Shy when she needed it, Portia truly believed that eventually she would be more appreciated.

After years of not only being cheated on but also beaten and still grieving her mother’s death, Portia had been drinking her sorrows away.

She knew this had to be the last straw. Plus, she wanted to remain on her father’s good side, and this was the start to cutting the cord of her first addiction, Shyla Monrow.

“Let’s head out.” Portia picked up the last bag and headed down the hallway towards the front door.

“Hold up,” a loud voice said, coming through the front door. “I know this bitch ain’t back in my house?”

Before making it closer to the door, Portia came face to face with Shy. “Who you callin’ a bitch!?” Portia dropped her bag, ready to square up with Shy after all these years. She was tired and knew it was about time she fought back.

“I wasn’t a bitch when I was taking care of you, paying all your damn bills, and buying your Henny, was I, Shyla?” Portia looked down past her nose at Shy.

“Nah, but..” before Shy could continue her sentence, Portia smacked fire out of her. “Don’t even fix your mouth to say no dumb shit.” This was her taking her power back.

Shy looked up at Portia, holding her face in utter shock. It was always Shy doing the smacking, kicking, beating, scratching, and biting, but now Portia was getting her lick back. She never raised a hand to Shy out of fear of her, but this was her breaking point.

“That’s for disrespecting me the multiple times that you did. I sat here for seven years and let you cheat on me, beat on me, and drain my bank accounts.” Portia’s eyes welled with tears. “All the while taking care of your dusty ass.”

“This time,” Portia said, pointing her finger in Shy’s face. “I’m gone for good. Don’t text me, don’t call me, and don’t come looking for me.”

Shy was too stunned to speak. Before she could even formulate words to respond, Portia gave her her ass to kiss as she walked out the door.
