Chapter 43
Amit stared at her back, noting the tension in her shoulders. Moments ago, they’d been enjoying the aftermath of a very satisfying moment and now…they were fighting? What the hell had just happened?
That’s when he noticed her shoulders quiver. Was she crying? No! Impossible! But then they did it again. The movement was tiny, but he was so in tune with every part of her that he noticed.
His anger and frustration melted away, replaced with concern. He moved closer, not touching her because they both knew where touching led. And this…something was clearly bothering her.
“Mari, talk to me. What’s going on?”
She sniffed, revealing that she really was upset. Marianna glanced over her shoulder, then groaned and quickly looked away.
“Amit, please, just…get dressed, okay?”
He didn’t want to get dressed. He wanted to talk to her and understand what was happening in her mind. But he also knew that being naked was distracting. If she hadn’t wrapped that towel around her, who knows what might have happened by now.
And they really did need to discuss some things.
He turned and headed inside, remembering that he’d stripped off his clothes as he’d walked across the living room. Thankfully, the servants hadn’t come through to clean up, so his clothes were where he’d left them. He pulled on his boxers and the slacks, not bothering with the shirt because he was too impatient to understand what had upset his Marianna.
And yes, he suddenly realized that she was “his” in his mind. Now, he just needed to convince her of that status. Because he was definitely hers.
Once he had his pants zipped up, he turned, disappointed to find that she’d put on a robe, tightening the belt as she moved several feet away from him.
“Okay, I’m no longer naked. Talk to me,” he commanded, ready to propose and…!
He suddenly realized what he’d been forgetting for the past week. Protection! He hadn’t used any sort of protection against pregnancy while she’d been here! Damn it, he hadn’t protected Marianna!
Marianna turned, her mouth open and she was obviously about to say something, but the realization of what he’d missed hit him like a ton of bricks. So, he didn’t wait to interrupt whatever she was about to say. Instead, he simply blurted out, “Are you pregnant?”
