Chapter 8 Home Confrontation

I thought my parents would like Chen Yanzhou very much.

Unexpectedly, although they greeted him politely too, the distance they showed was completely different from their closeness to Cheng Nuo.

It seemed Chen Yanzhou felt it.

He wasn't the type to coax people like Cheng Nuo.

He could only watch Cheng Nuo make my parents laugh nonstop.

I also understood my parents' attitude toward Chen Yanzhou.

In the years I dated him, I never came home for New Year because of him.

Chen Yanzhou never suggested coming to see my parents either.

I thought he didn't like me, so of course he wouldn't care about my family.

My parents naturally wouldn't feel much goodwill toward him.

Chen Yanzhou looked somewhat embarrassed.

It seemed he knew he hadn't done well these years, so he could only stay silent.

The meal finally ended.

I pulled Chen Yanzhou into my room.

"What are you doing here? Why didn't you tell me beforehand?"

Chen Yanzhou lowered his head. "Didn't you say several times before that you hoped I would come home with you? Now I'm here. I thought you'd be happy."

If it had been before, I probably would have been really happy.

But now I only felt annoyed.

"You should go back quickly," I frowned. "This is a small place with no decent hotels. You probably wouldn't get used to it."

Chen Yanzhou looked at me for a while. "When are you going home?"

"This is my home."

Chen Yanzhou grabbed my wrist. "I mean our home. I know you haven't been home for several years. It's fine if you want to stay a few more days. I'll wait for you at home, okay?"

I slowly pulled my hand back. "...Chen Yanzhou, I'm not going back."

"Not going back?" He said softly. "What do you mean by not going back?"

"I want to quit my job and return to my hometown," I avoided Chen Yanzhou's gaze. "I don't want to stay in S City anymore."

"Don't want to stay?" Chen Yanzhou's face darkened. "Then what about us two? Long-distance? Or—"

He said one word at a time, "You want to break up?"

"I—" I was about to speak when the door was pushed open.

Cheng Nuo was still wearing my family's little bear apron.

His beautiful M-shaped lips curved into a familiar smile.

"What secret are you whispering? Auntie is calling you out for fruit."

"This has nothing to do with you," Chen Yanzhou said coldly. "Cheng Nuo, I want to ask what you mean by coming to eat at my girlfriend's house?"

Cheng Nuo's smile remained unchanged. "Tang Ning and I are friends. What's the problem with coming to a friend's house for a meal?"

"Friends?" Chen Yanzhou sneered. "I didn't know you two had become this close."

"So what," Cheng Nuo leaned against the doorframe. "Dating doesn't allow opposite-sex friends? I see you get along pretty well with Feng Linlin."

"I have nothing with Feng Linlin!"

"Then I have nothing with Tang Ning either."

Chen Yanzhou's face completely sank. "Cheng Nuo, if you act like this, we can't be friends anymore."

Cheng Nuo shrugged. "Whatever. I have plenty of friends. I won't miss you."

Seeing the tense atmosphere between the two men, I quickly pushed Cheng Nuo out.

"I'll be out right away."

Cheng Nuo lowered his eyes and glanced at me before leaving obediently.

Chen Yanzhou's anger hadn't faded. "I didn't know your relationship was this good. It's already at the level where he can come eat at your house. Look at your mom's attitude toward him. It's like treating him as—"

He gritted his teeth. "When exactly did you two get so familiar?!"

I said calmly, "It was that rainy day when you sent Feng Linlin and left me alone at the hotel. He kindly sent me back. That's how we met."

"I have nothing with Cheng Nuo. Don't make a fuss."

As soon as I said this, both Chen Yanzhou and I were stunned.

This used to be his line, now it was reversed.

"Do you think he really sees you as a friend?" Chen Yanzhou took a deep breath. "As men, can't I tell the way he looks at you is wrong?!"

"Tang Ning, what kind of person is Cheng Nuo and what are your conditions? Do you think he would be serious with you? He just wants to play around!"

As soon as the words left his mouth, it looked like he knew he had said the wrong thing. "I didn't mean that."

I lowered my head. "Chen Yanzhou, go back."
