Joel Miller slammed his phone down on his desk and immediately regretted it.
Shaking his hand, he glared at John Harding, head of his security.
“Harding, goddammit! It’s been over a week, where the hell did he take Sarah?
And those fucking detectives want to talk more.
I already told them I don’t know shit. Fuck them. ”
“Sir, I have reached out to all my contacts. They know of your generous finder’s fee for Sarah or her family. Apparently, the trail is stone cold…”
Joel watched Harding give a signal to the man Simo nicknamed Alabama, which he was now stuck with. He watched Alabama leave his office. Once he was gone, Joel turned to Harding. “I don’t want that Black guy on my personal security detail.”
“Sir, Alabama is trained…”
“Just get it done! It’s what I pay you for!”
Joel felt Harding’s stare. “Sir, you are very agitated today. Is there anything I can assist you with?”
Joel sighed and shook his head. “People are so fucking incompetent…”
“How so, Sir?”
“Fuck. I hired someone to hire someone to take out Johnny Stone. I just got word that Johnny is going to live. The one bonus is that he may have to shit in a bag the rest of his life… that ought to keep his mouth shut.”
Harding sighed. “Sir, you should have spoken with me first…”
“You weren’t fucking hired yet, otherwise I would have!”
“This ‘someone’… can he be trusted?”
“I paid his ass enough and I have records of the transaction…”
“Who is this ‘someone’?”
“Can’t say. But he’s high up the chain. His info has proved valuable so far.”
“Very well, Sir. I’ll get Lee on your detail.” Harding turned to leave, stopped, and looked back at Joel. “Sir, will you be hiring another assistant as well?”
“Fuck! I don’t know. That last bitch threatened to sue me! I should have you go talk to her…”
Harding smiled. “Already handled. She won’t be a concern for you any longer.” Harding nodded and left Joel to himself.
Joel spun in his chair and muttered, “About fucking time you did something worthwhile…” He stopped and looked out the window. “Goddammit, Sarah…” He sighed.
