Chapter 3
CHAPTER THREE
COLSON
It’s been a couple weeks since my new obsession completed his training—Officer Wright.
Kace Wright.
His name has been on repeat in my head since I overheard another officer address him a few days ago. But when he answered, he looked at me. And he was rewarded with an unhinged smile that promised torment anytime he’s assigned to us.
And it looks like today will be the day as he makes his way to our cell during his first round of patrols. The dark navy cargo pants that make up his uniform have never looked better on his lean frame. I’ve never been one to gawk over the COs, but Kace is different.
“Princessss, you’re looking awfully fine this evening. Come to keep me company?”
His facial expression is different today—almost judgmental, where before he was more intrigued. There’s an envelope in his hand, and when my eyes float down to it, his face transforms to disgust.
Kace’s eyes find mine, and he doesn’t miss a beat, handing over the piece of paper. “I wouldn’t have taken you two as dealers…” My brows pull together trying to piece together what he’s talking about and where it’s coming from.
“My ex-wife set us—”
He snarls, then spits his next words out. “I would rather be around a murderer than an addict.”
Nathan barges up to the bars and reaches through, almost grabbing Kace. But he jumps back before Nathan can.
“That’s ex-fucking-addicts to you,” Nathan says through clenched teeth. When Kace’s lip curls, Nathan reaches toward him again, forcing Kace to take another step away from our cell.
I’d never say it to him, but Nathan is so fucking hot when he’s pissed off.
I open the envelope—the seal already broken by the officer reading our mail before it gets to us—and assume it’s where Kace’s attitude is coming from.
From whatever my ex-wife put on this paper.
When it comes to her, there’s nothing I would put past her after she set Nathan and me up for drug trafficking. Immediately, an ultrasound image appears, but my hands lose their grip, and the letter falls to the ground. I bend down to pick it up off the floor, and my eyes scan the words.
Colson,
I know it’s been a while since I’ve written to you, but I’ve been busy.
I got married to a young gentleman named Connor, who is currently away studying to become a pastor. He’s twenty-one and comes from a nice Christian family.
This could have been you, but instead, you had to be on your knees sucking your sponsor’s cock.
Anyways, you can see from the ultrasound picture that we’re expecting.
Just wanted to let you know, since this is what we could have had, but you had to go and embarrass me.
I hope you find God and repent.
Maybe you can visit Connor once you’re out and release those sins that have been holding you down.
You shall not lie with a male as with a woman, for this is an abomination.

XO, Nicole
From behind me, Nathan mutters, “That’s not even what that verse means.”
He has always hated Nicole, and I don’t blame him for it.
She’s one of the most vile humans I’ve ever come across, and I don’t say that just because she’s my ex-wife that ruined my life.
Even before she set us up after finding out about Nathan and me, she would regularly say things that would stop me in my tracks.
She plays a hell of a religious character out in public and around her friends, but I saw the true ugliness rotting within that woman.
But marrying a man who’s in seminary to become a pastor—I never saw this coming. And robbing the cradle?
I feel bad for the guy, but that’s karma doing what she needs. I don’t get in the way of her workings anymore.
I guess if your ex-husband comes out as a gay man and you turn around and set him up to do five years in prison, that might do it… She has no one’s best interest at heart but her own, and there were even times I thought she had it out for herself.
Being able to live my truth now is the only karma I like controlling, knowing how it bothers that horrific excuse of a woman.
Do I feel bad for the child she’s about to bring into this world?
Yes.
Is it my problem?
Not anymore.
The only things I’m thankful for now are not being the father of that child and her showing her true colors—even if it landed me here. A kid with her would’ve been worse than five years in prison. It took almost three years into my prison sentence to get her to finally sign the divorce papers.
I was dumb enough to let my guard down while reading this piece of paper, and when I look up, I see the look of utter disgust. Under his breath, Kace murmurs, “Why would you throw that all away for drugs?”
Nathan’s at the bars again, reaching through with both arms to grab Kace, even though he can’t get to him. “Because of me, Wright. Go back to your post before I beat the fuck out of you.”
Should I be foaming at the mouth over my boyfriend threatening to beat an officer’s ass?
Fuck no.
I grab the side of his neck, pulling his mouth to mine and whispering on his lips, “That was hot, big man.”
